have not been here for years. I recall when i was here many years ago, the owner was the chef, cashier, wait staff, and dishwasher. i also recall it seemed forever before our food arrived. So we never went back. But I heard there was an ownership change awhile back. so we decided to try this location. First impression, inside looked vaguely familiar...but there seems to be another employee that greeted us who was extremely cordial and friendly that took and served our entrees. So what did we order: 1)Tempura Udon: our friend devoured her entree so i am thinking she enjoyed her meal. 2) 2 item bento box: tempura and chicken Katsu. our friend is very particular when it comes to Japanese cuisine. but we heard no complaints. 3) Sesame chicken w/sauce in the side: another entree with no complaints. 4) Teriyaki chicken w/sauce on the side: chicken was moist but also somewhat stringy- perhaps without the sauce, made the grilling of chicken more challenging. 5) Una Don: basically it was unagi. it arrived with three nice size pieces of eel in a somewhat sweet but more soy sauce flavored sauce- nice portion on a heap of rice. The restaurant is called Edokko II. I should have asked where the I is located. I always forget about this place and we go to the one in the Grocery Outlet Shopping Center. Both are big togo places. Just as many togo orders were picked up as people were sitting in the restaurant. Parking- it's part of a strip mall so there is plenty of parking. I actually got a spot right out front, in the shade. They are located next to the dollar tree and is the same strip mall as Ace Hardware and Round Table. Ambiance- It's not all that. It's a one room restaurant filled with tables and chairs. Little decor. I wouldn't go here for the ambiance. Service- It's good, she was attentive, but not overbearing Kitchen- They were pretty quick. I am thankful that they brought out the Soup and pickled cabbage first then the California roll before the bento box. Food- This is the reason we came here. My girlfriend loves their teriyaki and sesame chicken. She ordered the sesame chicken this time and I ordered the teriyaki chicken. We both ordered the Bento Boxes for $20.95 each. The Bento Box I got came with: Rice, Salad with miso dressing, mixed tempura (2 Shrimp, 1 broccoli, potato, 1 zucchini, and a huge pile of Teriyaki Chicken. My husband had some left over teriyaki chicken and really enjoyed it too. I took most of it home as there was way too much food for one person. I really enjoyed the tempura. The shrimp was really crispy and great texture. The zucchini was very juicy, the potato was creamy, and the broccoli was fun to eat. Price-I felt it was pretty pricey compared to the lunch special Bento Box we usually get at the other Japanese Restaurant we usually go to, but this is dinner and dinner is usually more expense. My son likes their sesame chicken. I called and placed an order. Immediately realizing I needed the sauce on the side, I called back. She said 20mins...so I bust my butt to get there on time....just so she can run to the back and tell them sauce on the side. The chef says its too late. When I told them the circumstance (autistic son who doesnt like sauce) they said we can not remake due to turning off the fryer. ?but doesn't your stove work like mine? I first went to Edokko II in high school in the 1990's and recently went last weekend and it is delicious! I often forget it is in the neighborhood where I live. The udon noodles and broth were flavorful and the tempura was crispy but not oily. My friends ordered ramen and bento boxes (sesame chicken, teriyaki salmon) and they ate every last bite. The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get and the service was great! I will be coming here more regularly for sure. read more

I have eaten here a few times. The food is consistently good. Noodle dishes, ramen etc are all good. I went on a Thursday for lunch getting there at around 12:15. We were seated immediately. Authentic Japanese Flavor - Just Like Japan! I rarely write reviews, but this place deserves every bit of praise! From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was transported straight to Japan. The ambiance, the service, and most importantly--the food--were absolutely spot on. I ordered the udon and a side of takoyaki, and WOW. The broth was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced--just like the bowls I had in Fukuoka. The noodles had the ideal chew, and the chashu melted in my mouth. The takoyaki were crisp on the outside, gooey on the inside, and topped with that perfect combo of mayo, bonito flakes, and sauce. Every bite took me right back to street stalls in Osaka. Even the little details were perfect--the pickled ginger, the miso soup, the green tea--everything tasted genuinely Japanese, not the watered-down version you get at a lot of places. The chefs clearly know what they're doing and care about getting it right. I had the Edokko Don, this is an omelet with katsu chicken and shrimp tempura over rice. I have been coming here for years, this is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants and this is one of my favorite meals to eat here. Their udon is better than udon in San Francisco's Japan town. This place has a rating of 3.5 out of 199 reviews. I don't understand why, not a fancy place, they don't do fancy sushi. Just good, basic Japanese food. Food quality is mediocre. I ordered vegetable tempura and there was nothing amazing about it, other than letting it run it's course through my intestines--regular cleaning or what not. Lol. 10 Years ago I use to frequent this restaurant but for unknown reasons, I stopped. Came back a week ago and would definitely return. I ordered the ramen set with tonkatsu donburi. I thought it was a little too salty but I still good. I did notice that they still served an off the menu item that I used to order regularly, Ika Furai. I would definitely return to order this dish. Small restaurant in a strip mall. Friendly staff who took our order for a party of 8 with patience. They were able to sub my ramen mapo tofu for udon mapo tofu. They offered us free miso soup if we wanted and also included little dishes of picked cabbage. Nothing fancy but everything tasty. The broths were all piping hot. The tempura delish.
