Not happy and won't be back. My vegetable hibachi in my bento box was soaked half way of this watery flavorless soup. Vegetable hibachi should be fried and not be served all soaked like that. Manager argued with me that it's just the moisture from the vegetables. I would pick up a piece of broccoli and it would literally be dripping with water. I do not know how they have the rating shown on Yelp. I had the New York sushi roll and the crunch roll. and neither one of them tasted fresh. The waiter constantly touched used cups with the same gloves that he served food with. The whole experience grossed me out to the point I did not eat my lunch. read more

This was my favorite sushi spot in the Montgomery area. They offer creative rolls and use good quality tuna for their spicy tuna (not the mush). I've mostly been disappointed with sushi in the local area, but I highly recommend, especially if you're a sushi lover visiting from out of town, this place will not disappoint. I'm pleasantly stuffed and I just had the Texas roll. They were very generous with the portions which is much appreciated. I also ordered the Daniel roll because the reviews said it was but I haven't gotten to eat as the first roll was more than enough. I can't believe I haven't written a review here for this place yet. When I lived in Montgomery, I ate here every Friday with my parents. Now, when I come home to visit the folks, my parents and I eat here as our first dinner out together. The staff knows us and we know them. They have our orders memorized and are SO friendly. When I'm feeling like I should eat some green, we start the meal with edamame. They serve a huge amount, perfect for three people. They are always piping hot and salted perfectly. I've been to some places that try to grill or cook edamame outside of steaming them. NO! Just steam them like Sushi Cafe does! I change my order from time to time. Lately, I've been obsessed with the tuna crunch roll, which are slices of tuna on California rolls (avocado, crab, and cucumber -- I get it without cucumber), covered in panko crunch and peanut sauce. Yes, peanut sauce. You'd never guess it's peanut because it's white, but sure enough, when I shared it with my friend who has a nut allergy, her throat did get a lil itchy. This roll has all my favorite parts of sushi! I'll usually order it with an accompanying standard unagi (eel + avocado) roll. Previously, I have tried the Philly roll, Yellowtail roll, spicy tuna roll, and Zelda roll. The Philly roll is smoked salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. The smokiness of the salmon makes it extra salty. The Zelda roll is crab, avocado, and cream cheese, and then the entire roll is FRIED!! What a fun time. Another thing worth noting is that lunch is a limited menu, but the bento boxes are the best bang for your buck. My parents love getting them, and they always feel full with leftovers. You get your choice protein, fried price, two lil California rolls, salad, some fried tempura, and ...oranges? It's a complete meal! The fish is the freshest I've tasted in this city. The prices are reasonable, but watch out for the lunch rush. Also gets super busy on Friday nights. My last note is their complimentary salads. I don't know what the secret sauce is, but the dressing they use on their salads is DELICIOUS!!!! I hate eating salad because I'm not a cow and that's what salads make me feel like, but the dressing they use makes salads not only bearable, but tasty and interesting! read more

This a great little hidden spot that if you don't know about you can easily miss. The food is consistently good every since I stumbled across this place about a year ago. This a pretty small place and they are usually crowded but they get you seated pretty quickly and they have togo orders ready for you when promised. I am not a sushi person but my friends swear they are great so give them a try. read more

Non accommodating. Asked for a special request because I do not eat certain fish and because their prices are skewed the manager tried to get me to pay for a $13 up charge which is ridiculous. A typical up charge for the order I had is around $5. The venue is also not clean. It is not right for a sushi place to not accommodate to a customer and to give an excuse as to way the up charge is so expensive. read more

What is other sushi? I started my sushi journey here, trying the cuisine for the first time and legit, nothing else compares. "It's good, but it's no sushi cafe" the yummy roll is my favorite. The Daniel Special is also great, which is really saying something considering my ex husbands name is Daniel and I wouldn't any other time speak his name without a feeling of impending vomit in the back of my throat. Been here a few times for lunch. Their lunch menu lets you select two roles for a $9-12 combo (that pricing might be a little off, sorry I don't remember the exact amount). Visiting Montgomery for some training and saw the great reviews of this place so thought I'd try it out. Have to say I am disappointed in this place. I sat at the sushi bar and even there it took longer than I expected to get service or my rolls. I ordered the Zelda roll (I'm a sucker for some deep fried rolls). It was presented well but have to say the proportions were off. It was overwhelming with cream cheese and that overtook the role and was disappointing. Then I also got the Daniels special roll. It looked messy and like a lot and took way too long to come out. That said, my first bite of it was very off putting and mainly mayo which didn't make me want to eat the rest. I thought maybe it was just the first squirt of that bottle dressing the rolls so tried to choke it down but couldn't finish the roll cause it just wasn't good, texture was odd, rice wasn't sticky enough or correct for sushi rolls, and I was just overall disappointed in this roll and establishment... read more

I think this might be my wife's favorite place to eat lunch. I would say they have the best sushi in Montgomery. I typically stick with the "pick two" sushi option at lunch, although I have gotten their Bento Box before and not been disappointed. There is typically a short wait at lunch. However, they do a good job of getting you seated in a reasonable amount of time. They take orders promptly and are good about getting you a drink and keeping it full. Food comes out quickly, but it doesn't look like it was made in a hurry, and, as well as people get moved in and out, I never feel rushed. They have the best shrimp tempura roll I have every tried. I frequent here for lunch because you just can't beat the chicken bowl. It comes with grilled chicken, rice, and veggies with some sort of mayo based sauce. It's a great price for the amount of food you get, plus it's delicious!! I've had the spicy tuna rolls as well and they are well made with the perfect fish to rice proportion. Sushi Cafe is that little sushi stop that you're iffy about going to but cave in to. It's a diamond in the rough for this area. When I left California, I thought I'd said goodbye to legitimate sushi. And, I did, ut alas, I found something to keep me from compete sushi death! The restaurant is pretty good! Fish quality - EH, but I can deal. The sushi (nigiri) prices are actually relatively cheap! this is also bc the quality of the nigiri itself is MEH. I can tell it's pretty much all frozen fish, but can't complain as the fusion rolls make up for it. The rolls are normal for fusion sushi places-- and they do a job with flavor, texture, presentation, quality, and portion. They offer a good number of appetizers and kitchen food. The menu is pretty extensive with some Korean dishes, as well. And, I love me some good Korean food. Service is pretty attentive, even when they have a full house. Service is... volatile. the server I had the last time I was there, her English is good, but she's quite temperamental. the last time I went she was angry and unresponsive the whole time. I asked for hot tea and she glared at me, walked away and returned five minutes later with tea, put it wherever she pleased and walked off. that's just one of the five very offputting things she did. not everyone's like that every time. Sushi Cafe seems to have found its niche; it knows its pace, its customers, its flow. And, this is evident with how efficiently the restaurant runs for the most part. Ah, lunch time: lunch time gets QUITE busy, especially if you don't get there 5 minutes before the rush, BUT the lunch deals are pretty sweet. This is definitely not your authentic Japanese sushi restuarant, but if you're skeptical about having "pretty good" sushi or a first time sushi eater, I'd recommend getting a lunch deal. don't expect fine quality fish and you'll be content. read more

This place has the best sushi in Montgomery. My favorite roll is the Texas Roll and I always get the salmon nigiri. Everything is fresh and well made. I always get sushi, but mom loves their hibachi. I wish I didn't have to write such a long review. I'm honestly just waiting for my to-go order. It's Valentine's Day and super busy, which was totally expected. Yay! Finally a decent sushi place on near the West end of town! For Montgomery standards, this place has excellent sushi and creative rolls. As Bill B had mentioned, since the owner use to work at Miyako, Sushi Cafe has similar special sushi rolls. The restaurant is a bit small, they don't have big tables, so keep your party to a minimum and try to make reservations if you can't get there early. I was really going to put five stars to this restaurant but the service kind of ruined it.. We ordered the Texas roll, and the other one with Tuna and pepper sauce, both were AMAZING. My boyfriend and I really loved it, the Texas roll was definitely one of the best sushi roll we ever had. Unfortunately, we were still eating the topping that fell off the sushis when the waitress arrived, took the plate, and put the check instead, wtf ??! First of all we did not even ask for the check at that point, and we were STILL EATING !! Anyway, I then told her that we would actually like to have desert, she told us what the desert was and we ordered. She arrived five minutes later, with the dessert... And the check again, to put it right in front of my boyfriend again... At this point it started to feel really rude. We finished our desert and payed (in cash, after a waiter refused that we pay with our credit card..) and then... He took like ten minutes to bring us the change.. I love this restaurant! It's quaint, quiet gem. I usually go for lunch or to pickup a quick dinner. The servers are always friendly and helpful; the service is always quick and consistent. I've stumbled upon this sushi bar for the first time in the city of Montgomery. This restaurant had a lot of great reviews, and indeed, I agree with the other Yelpers because it's the bees knees. I love the quiet noise level while dining out on a Saturday night, and it's really a win-win because it's not as busy. The staff was very attentive and courteous, so it's basically in the restaurant and out because the food arrives in a short period of time. Personally, my mom and I ate the Texas Roll, Daniel Special Roll, and Crazy Roll, all of them were delicious. All the ingrediants were well put-together. The Daniel Roll is out of this world because the shellfish in it were actually like a very small meal. I love the sauce, the decadent shellfish in each sushi roll you sink your teeth in, and the rice was well-rolled. If you're looking for great sushi in Montgomery, come to Sushi Cafe.
