Tried a Thai place within quick driving distance from Maxwell. A little hard to find, but it is indeed within the large stately old train station right next to the tracks. Parking is a little odd. There is a paid parking garage next to the Greyhound bus line, but no validation provided by the Thai resturant. There are some Railroad Thai-specifically labeled parking spots behind the resturant under the large covered platform building, but make sure you park in a labeled Thai parking spot and there are only a handfull of them. The Basil roll was good and fresh, but could have used more Basil in it and it would have been nice if the Tofu had been seasoned. The chicken Pad (Pud) Thai was good, and had a surprising amount of chicken and egg and beansprouts in it (a plus), but it was quite odd to be served alongside white rice. Not something I commonly see done and I eat a LOT of Thai food all across the USA. This must be their 'thing' though and I will say it was welcome because the dish itself was really soupy. Traditionally I see this when insufficient time is taken in the Wok to develop the sauce completely. I ordered the top spice level, extra hot, and it did indeed have spice within it; but native Thai nor experienced Thai-food eaters need concern themselves with it being close to 'too spicy'. I feel like it was missing the spices I normally taste in pho broth. BUT the two redeeming dishes were the pineapple fried rice and crab angels (fried wontons). Avoid the sushi. I probably should have known better than to order sushi at a Thai restaurant in Montgomery, but alas, I ignored my instincts. It was barely better than grocery store sushi, and the rice was warm which really threw me off. The massamun curry was good... Not particularly spicy, but still flavorful. Had take out 2 weeks ago and the food was terrible. Pad Thai and Pad See ew and the meat was beyond dry and tasted like rubber road kill. It's usually really good. Went again tonight and the host didn't speak one word to us. Held up two fingers and walked away. My wife and I looked at each other questioning whether or not we should follow. Incredibly disappointed at the flavor of the food. Ordered the Tom kha soup and it didn't have the flavorful mellowness of fresh herbs nor did it have the smooth coconut flavor. It tasted like lemon water with bits of chicken. The flavor was not good in any way. The small serving is overpriced for what one gets. It's the size of what one would normally get as a small serving of dip. I love this soup when done correctly. The pad see ew was also bad. The noodles were overcooked it was unpleasant to eat. The flavor was off. It's a dish with soy but all I could taste was sugar. I've never had sugar be the one flavor in my pad see ew. No one wanted to eat it. read more

Good portion sizes. The rolls were fresh and flavorful, as was the stir fry, which had fresh green beans along with peppers and chicken in a well-spiced sauce. The larb was a disappointment, lacking any of the distinct flavors one typically expects...minty, lime, and the kick from the chili rice powder, with some well handed seasoning. The interior of the restaurant is pretty cool. It kind of feels like a speakeasy with laid back vibes and nice touches of Thai decor around the place. The appetizers we had (satay, spring rolls, and crab rangoon) were all delicious and fresh. Everyone in our party really enjoyed them. For my entrée I ordered the massaman curry with chicken. The curry was super flavorful and well balanced. The ratio of chicken/veggies/rice to curry sauce was perfect and was a good sized portion. The restaurant is small inside but has patio seating. The hostess he was friendly and attentive. The waitress seemed busy. I was not in impressed by the menu. The items are very Americanized. So if you are looking for true Thai cuisine this is not the place for you. The only reason we finished the food is because we were starving from our 13+ hour drive. The pad thai was way too sweet and over cooked. The soft crab was sweet, too. Total was $47 without tip for spring rolls, calamari, pad thai and softshell crab. Sat immediately in a pleasant area. Entrance it a little confusing and weird. We had a large group so I'm not sure if that altered the service, but no one was asked if they wanted any spice added to their meals. Many were jealous when it finally got to me and I requested medium. The curry was served very quickly, but the portions were rather slim and more expensive than most plates. The rice plates were huge and looked delicious. The pad woo sen had great spice, but could use a little more flavor. We were sad that the mango sticky rice was not available, but I'm assuming it's out of season and appreciate not being served a bad mango. read more

The staff were also super friendly and the service was very fast. The interior was very clean and the restaurant supplied inside and outside seating so there was a lot of space. Noodles were kind of clumpy, veggies were a mix and match of undercooked and over, nothing terrible, just off a bit from where it used to be. Sushi was fresh and a large portion, so that was a plus. They had a large party, but waitstaff was understaffed, which caused delays, and got the order wrong- missed my drink and an appetizer, but they didn't charge for it, so never made it from waitress to kitchen.
