This is hands-down, my favorite restaurant in the entire world. I've been here multiple times now and the food is always fresh. They never skimp out and use real ingredients. The red coconut curry is my absolute favorite. It's so filled with coconut milk has plenty of chicken and bamboo shoots. The Thai spring rolls are absolutely incredible stuff with meat. The service is amazing. The owner is such a nice man they go above and beyond every single time I've never been there and been let down the atmosphere is quiet and casual. I never feel overcrowded or overstimulated being in there. I've been going to the same Thai restaurant down the street for 15 years and ever since trying this place I hate to say it, but I will never go back Ala Thai takes the cake, hands down my favorite food and my death row meal! No matter what you order, it is excellent. Our favorites are Pad Thai Classic, Pad See Eiw, Coconut Curry and the baby egg rolls. We have also enjoyed the Crazy noodles & Thai spaghetti. This restaurant food is incredible, we loved everything. From the delicious Thai spring roll and chicken satay for appetizers, the fresh squeeze lemonade in an extra large grand mug. They got one thing right with my order, no bean sprouts. That's impressive since I didn't want it in the little spring rolls. Nothing else is right about this meal. Look at the soup, iceberg lettuce is not lemongrass. The pad Thai has not much flavor, and is overwhelmed by the fried egg. And those spring rolls are nothing to rave about, too pasty and white flour tasting. Big disappointment. read more

Where to begin... my friend and I came here hoping for flavorful Thai food that came with good customer service. Typically this is not an unrealistic expectation; apparently for here though--it was. I ordered half of the fried egg rolls for an appetizer and my friend ordered the Tom Kha soup. We waited for at least twenty minutes before either were brought out. While the soup smelled really good, she said it wasn't even remotely spicy. She even added red chili flakes to give it more of a kick. As she continued to eat it she noted that it was also sweet--a little too sweet. Both of us ordered the pad kee mao (hers a 2 and mine a 1 spicy). BOTH of our noodle dishes were bland, the noodles dry, and just blah. Usually the noodles have sauce on it so they are not dry, this place didn't. Then, THERE WAS A HAIR IN MY FOOD! I knew it definitely was not mine because there was a long hair in it and my hair is short. My friend's hair is also short, so It wasn't hers either. I brought it to the attention of the server and he asked if I wanted a new plate of food...but yeah, no. I was totally grossed out at this point. My friend also asked for a Sprite and he said he would get her one. About 15 minutes later and after checking the other tables; the other server brought her a Sprite. It was like he was avoiding the table. Either way, my friend tried to eat some of her noodles but she said they were too dry for her as well. So we paid the bill and left. I've been coming to Ala Thai for some time now. I love that they deliver if you call directly to the store, but they are also on waitr and doordash food delivery apps. My favorite dishes are the chive dumplings, tom Kha soup, garlic noodles, and panang curry. They also sell very good Thai lemonade, which is sweet and has a hint of lime in it. I had been craving pad Thai for awhile so drove across town to get some. I ordered it spicy classic. There were only a few shreds of chicken and two small shrimp. A pinch of cabbage...no peanuts...maybe a pinch of bean sprouts and was so unspicy a 2 year old could have eaten. There was only a small sliver of egg in the dish. I added what I thought was chili oil but it was sweet which ruined it for me. I ordered the spring roll with peanut sauce but they gave me tamarind. When they brought me the peanut sauce it was nothing more than microwaved cheap grade peanut butter. Never again. I can easily make better at home! read more

The shitty thing about Montgomery is lack of good restaurants, and lack of everything else cool (aside from an awesome zoo). Luckily, this Thai restaurant does not suck as bad as the other one I tried, Lek's Railroad. Unluckily, I was sick when I came here and could not really taste anything. Another great family-owned restaurant! The guy at the table near me can't stop hiccuping. Don't play with the heat if you can't handle it. It doesn't overpower the flavor but it can get hot. I hear his friends say he got #4 hot. I enjoy the best Beef Panang I have ever eaten, anywhere. A bed of crispy fried large flat noodles is topped with a delicious creamy red curry sauce with tender strips of beef. Fresh basil leaves and softened green and yellow bell pepper slices complete the dish. Seriously one of the best Thai meals I have ever eaten, and I say that repeatedly here. I write this as I finish my "jimmy hot" Beef Panang. It is literally peppered with sliced thin hot red peppers. #15 hot the waiter tells me as a nearby loud hiccup echoes through the place. If you DO like it hot, go Jimmy. Montgomery is blessed to have several great Thai restaurants. This is one of them. I have been coming here for years. Never not a great meal. I normally love Ala Thai East. The food is always tasty and they always give you plenty of food. Whether you eat at the restaurant or order to go, there's always enough to be full. Today I ordered two different entries because I was hungry. Man was I disappointed today. Ala Thai East basically gave me small lunch sized portions, but sure charged me the dinner price. Unfortunately I ordered the food in Waitr so I didn't see the tiny amounts till it was at my house. When I first took the bag I knew it was light. Both the Pad Thai Chicken and the Pad See Ew were very tasty, but here I am, I've eaten two TINY amounts of each and I'm having to look thru the fridge for something to fill me up. Pad Se Ewe was a perfect balance of flavor I had the heat level at their 4 with fresh Thai chilies, let's say I'm going back tomorrow for lunch!! Excellent! We were there about a month ago and we were very impressed with the food. Especially the Garlic noodles with chicken. We ate at the restaurant. We went there the a few days ago and ordered the same thing except for take out. The quality and portion size was lacking. Prob about 4 small pieces of chicken and mostly bean sprouts. Good food! I had the Pad Thai, Singapore Noodles, Shrimp blanket & Thai iced tea. Great flavor with medium to large sized portions. The Pad Thai wasn't as spicy (I ordered a level 3 spice) as I thought it would be but the flavor was still really good. The sauce they serve with the shrimp blankets has a nice spicy kick! Customer service was great! You can call, place your order & pay over the phone if you like or swipe your card when you arrive if you're doing take out. Prices are decent/average. Food was amazing! Never had a cold spring roll before. Used chopsticks on them for the first time! I found this place while on a road trip. My real only issues were: Soda in a can?! I'm not a fan of a place that gives me a can and a cup of ice. To me it's lazy. It means they buy them at Walmart,next door, instead of partnering with a company and getting fountains installed. My other problem was what something else had mentioned, the owner. Our server was great. She got our drinks and got us seated. Then the owner came over to take our order. When we started to order she started talking to a regular customer. We asked her about the spring rolls making sure it had no meat, or at least nor shrimp or pork, but she was vague with her answer. It did take a while for both our appetizers to come out and then our food. Later I heard the owner talk to another patron about not getting their lunch, half joking I think. That the kitchen staff was short handed because she's suppose to be cooking but her son didn't show up. Thing is she wasn't doing anything really! The server was doing fine ALL by herself. She kept telling her to do things she already had done or asking her if she had taken care of something. For what I could see she could have gotten in the kitchen to help out since she could SEE the service was slow. Also when we asked for to-go containers she seemed offended. Like how dare we not eat it all right there. We were on our final day of our road trip heading home. We were ready to get back on the road. She kinda threw down a cliche Chinese food container for me and a foam clam shell box for my mom. The only other minor problem was there was a corner booth filled with stuff. It looked like it's their office/kids' play area. There were papers, toys, purses, jackets, all kinds of stuff. This place is small. It's weird they would waste a table with personal things. Other than all of that, it was good! The food was good and our server was good. If I'm in the area again I'd happily eat there again. I just hope the owner lady isn't there. read more

Montgomery may not be a cultural or culinary capital, but this restaurant is the place to go if you want excellent Thai food. Amazing symphony of flavor in each dish and every bite. The Chicken Panang covered a bed of large, flat, hard noodles. I must not have read the menu properly because I was expecting the typical side of jasmine rice; I was not disappointed with the noodles. It was creamy and delicious. This was one of my favorite hot spots in the "gump" as some call it. I haven't been back to montgomery in years but this is one of the first places I stop to eat at. There pad thai chicken is one of the best. And there mini egg rolls come any where from 8 to 12 depending on how generous they feel that day, but I can eat an order all on my own, and you don't know me, but that's rare. They have such a great flavor and taste and with the sweet sauce that comes with it, it's addicting all on its own. Even for fried there so light! And I can't ever forget there cucumber salad, my mouth is watering thinking about it now. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend this place if your a lover for some great thai food! read more

Montgomery is not exactly the place to go to for a cultural culinary experience. So finding a decent Thai restaurant is like winning the lottery to me. And ladies and gentlemen, I have won the lottery today. Finally! A Thai place that actually serves Thai food. I have to admit I've only been to one other Thai restaurant in the area. They are a scarcity around these parts. I'm a spoiled New Yorker who use to having a dozen or so Thai choices within a three block radius of her office. We ordered from the lunch specials, which gives you a choice of egg roll, spring roll, cucumber salad or soup with your dish. The cucumber salad was very fresh and refreshing. The chicken and rice soup was bursting with flavors of chicken, lime, cilantro and scallions. Our entrees were very good too. The only negative thing I can say is that the food is a bit over priced. I can get lunch specials for less in New York City. Nonetheless I will be back. read more

My Thai food experience is just limited to the southeast but this is by far the best Thai food I have had. I have consistently eaten here for about 5 years now. Just like any place that has not just opened there are going to be an occasion when something didn't come out perfect. However, I think there has only been once or twice over the past 5 years that something I ordered wasn't great. The service has varied from amazing to unenthusiastic but never awful. I would recommend starting with either the pot stickers or the spring rolls and then ordering any curry dish for the entree. If you go and have a bad experience ... try again and if you still don't like it...well....I am sorry. FYI: They don't currently serve alcohol but you may bring in a bottle of wine and they will provide you with glasses. I usually grab a bottle from Publix just beforehand. read more

First time here...we really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and friendly knowledgeable server. Chicken Curry Panang and Beef Pad Se Ew were fresh and tasty....and a great value. we usually really like this place and on any other night would give it 4 stars. but tonight my husband and I were there, enjoying the food which was as good as usual (better than decent), and our meal was interrupted by the female owner's curse word-laden tirade against her staff. VERY uncomfortable for us customers to hear F bomb after F bomb being dropped on some poor minion whose job it probably is NOT to make sure the restaurant has enough pork. shouldn't the buck stop with the owner?? whenever we come here we always cross our fingers she's not here because at the very least she'll talk our ears off about some customer she is at odds with, but tonight was the icing on the cake: we will not be back to listen to her berate or humiliate anyone ever again. shame, because the food is pretty good. read more
