I can't even front--I was a little thrown off at first, but the rolls spoke for themselves. The place is a bit dated and even had that older restaurant smell to match, but I got over that pretty quickly once the food came out. I ordered two rolls and the gyoza appetizer, and both were really good. One of the rolls had a heavy portion of spicy kani salad on top, which I loved. Definitely an underrated spot, and I'd go back again for sure. read more

So my husband and I are new to the area and really wanted a great Japanese place for dinner tonight. We chose this place because of all the wonderful reviews. I am taken aback because we had the opposite experience as everyone else I'm started to question if we have the right place. Got in here and the ac is broken (I assume). Soup and salad come out, very questionable. Cloudy soup and brownish ginger dressing. I got hibachi chicken. The yum yum-hardly any taste, I would say the same for the rice but it tasted just like your average mall Chinese rice, dry, no flavor but without the tiny peas and carrots. Also seemed to have sat out most of the day. Now the chicken, no complaints actually very good. Service was not bad. read more

Staff were friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. Once I ordered the food was delivered very quickly. There is ample parking in the shopping strip which is nice. The bento box was great! The food was cooked well and was flavored to perfection. I may have been there on an off day, the texture of the shrimp tempura was hard and chewy. I usually love shrimp tempura in sushi rolls but I was not able to finish this roll due to shrimp. The California roll included with the bento box was delicious though! Would return, good experience overall. read more

Great food and great service compared to the sister location in prattville which is still good to

Decent sushi, decent service. Jelly fish salad is good. Miso soup was not the best. They have a lot of options, but I've tried the salmon skin roll, salmon avocado roll, avocado roll, jellyfish salad, seaweed salad, and miso soup. I would come back again, but overall meh. I think sushi box is better. read more

We got the fried calamari for one our appetizers and we weren't too impressed. The pieces were pretty tiny but the sweet and sauce sauce was nice pair. The tempura was good but I don't think the shrimp tempura is made fresh there. The bento box has a lot of food and I love the variety. We got the steak teriyaki and it was cooked perfectly. The sushi was good but had too much sauce all over them. I also didn't like the sauce all over the hand roll because I couldn't pick it up to eat. And it just didn't work with using chopsticks. We will have to come back and try other items since they have a pretty big menu. read more

Ehh wouldn't waste your time nor money. Sub par place. Their Pad thai is pretty bad. Chicken isn't cooked throughly. We also had the hibachi dinner, again chicken not cooked throughly. Had a few roles like the AI which was nasty. The tempura roll and Philly rolls were ok. Go else where read more

Osaka serves some of the most delicious sushi rolls I have ever tasted. The Crazy Roll is a must-try, with eel sauce and fresh salmon caviar. The sushi is always fresh and expertly prepared by skilled chefs, and presented beautifully. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Osaka is a must-visit for sushi lovers. In addition to the delicious food and cozy atmosphere, the service at Osaka is exceptional. The staff is welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. During my visit, our server was particularly outstanding, offering helpful recommendations and making sure that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. My drink was never empty! Their attention to detail and commitment to providing exceptional service truly set Osaka apart, making it a standout dining destination for sushi lovers. The sushi was all amazing. Our party had about 9 different sushi rolls on our table and all were delicious

My wife and I spent some years in Los Angeles and haven't been able to find any sushi out here close to what we had gotten used to out there. One of her coworkers recommended trying Osaka and we are glad we did. Sushi was well composed and the employees were all very polite and helpful. I honestly enjoyed all the food that was served on our first visit and I look forward to our return visits in the future. read more

I will be honest....upon walking in I was excited. It's been since August 31st 2021 after Hurricane "Rock Head" Ida hit NOLA and ENTERGY not having power in most areas of the city my little family came to ALABAMA by family. The staff was not as enthusiastic as my waitress Sofia! Sofia was nice and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. I ordered the lunch hibachi (Filet mignon was tender and juicy and the shrimp was seasoned well!!) . I tried the Nigori Sake and it was dry but yet sweet. I then ordered the Wonder Roll and the Philadelphia Roll and that was good too! Overall everything was delicious and I really want to Thank Miss Sofia for the suggestions! read more

We came here on a Sunday evening and were seated immediately when we came in. There was an expansive menu that also included pictures of the rolls--something I love so there was no confusion over what we ordered. I ordered the Tiger's Eye and Texas Roll and my friend ordered the combo fried rice, and two other ones that had lots of crab meat in them (sorry cannot remember the name). Both of our rolls were delicious and packed with flavor. She did say the one she at less of in the picture did not have quite as much flavor as the other but they were both good. The Tiger's Eye was soooooo good! It was also really big and was hard to eat it all in one bite. I didn't even need soy sauce or wasabi for that one. The salmon inside was great too-flaky and fresh. The Texas Roll was still flavorful but the extra bit of soy and wasabi added a little punch. For drinks we had Asahi and it was crisp and smooth. I feel like it was a great choice for the rolls. Overall, the service was great and the food hit the spot. I will definitely come back here the next time I am in the area. read more

So, we used to love this place. My husband and I ordered salmon nigiri all the time from this restaurant. As matter of fact, a couple weeks ago we went there and the server wasn't experienced so we had some communication problems. Anyway, so! per photo, my hands are regular sized hands. We ordered Togo and when the server handed the food to me, it was very light and too expensive. So I wanted to open the package and he helped me to open. I was so disappointed because it was so tiny. It was just not worth of trip and money for these nigiris and we decided not to go back. I normally don't post photos but this time I had to. read more

Food was trash. We should have known when we walked in and no one else was there. No greeting. The takoyaki was not right, the octopus was so hard and barely chewable, the scallion pancake didn't come with any dipping sauce and anyone who knows anything about scallion pancakes would know it comes with a dipping sauce unique to the dish (not plain soy sauce) they claimed they don't serve sauce with it, smh! The ramen was flavorless and my son who loves ramen couldn't stomach it and said he would rather make his own (and he's 10) it was that bad. I've had packaged ramen that was better than that and the meat tasted old ugh!!! Our drinks were also not good. My son had the brown sugar boba and again he loves boba and not only did he not finish it, he didn't even want to take it home. I had the Japanese coffee drink and that also taste peculiar we were just over it. The servers spent more time talking than tending and the guys at the front desk didn't greet or say anything when we left. I do not recommend at all and the fact that no one was there is very telling. This is a hard no and hard pass!!!!! read more

Osaka Sushi Bar - 6:00 PM 6 March 2023 after a great sushi dinner! - Japanese Near Me - Montgomery, Alabama

I came here due to its many good reviews here on yelp, but was very disappointed. It's a typical Americanized sushi bar and Japanese restaurant. Most of the rolls are not authentic to Japanese style sushi but instead what people in the South expect to see which is rolls drowned in thick sauces, not fish which speaks of its own flavor profiles. And that's fine, I get it, you sell what sells. But even then, the rolls I ordered were very lackluster and one, the yellowtail and scallion roll, didn't taste especially fresh, either. To make matters worse, I ordered the pan-fried gyoza, as well. It took forever to come out from the kitchen and was cold when it did. Cold . . . how does that even happen with something pan-fried? Anyways, I had the waitress take it back and have it done over again. I'm not sure if they gave me a new plate of it or just threw the original gyoza in the microwave, but regardless when it returned it was warm but now tough and rubbery. I asked the waitress, "do you make these here in your kitchen or buy them frozen?" She was, at least, honest: they buy frozen ones. No wonder then. Look, I cook Asian food at home, I've even made my own dumplings and if I ran a restaurant sure as heck I'd make my own and not pawn off some store-bought frozen ones as a menu item. The waitress was nice, at least and other customers seemed content. I feel they could however do much better here. read more

It was my first time coming here, and it had an authentic atmosphere to it. But boy was I wrong. I had the tonkotsu ramen and crazy roll sushi. The ramen was not what I expected. It lacked flavor. I had many better ramen bowls before in Atlanta, and this place is at the very bottom of the list. It did not taste authentic whatsoever. The portion was generously, but the taste did not hold up to its standards. The crazy roll sushi, on the other hand, was pretty decent but was nothing to go "crazy" over. The service was a little below average as our server did not attend us as often. We waited for a while for the check, but overall experience, it was just average; nothing that was outstanding during this visit. I hope to give this place another try in the future. read more

Was not remotely close to how the reviews were so I Was pretty disappointed. The miso soup tasted like hot water with chopped onions with a hint of miso in it..very bland. The shaggy dog roll was very disappointing, tasted like a regular sushi roll with nothing on it. The calamari was very bland as well. I apologize for being late on my reviews. I decided to try this place out when I was in town last week for lunch. It was a very nice restaurant and very hidden.
