Although this restaurant is right at the corner of Littleton Blvd and Santa Fe, blink and you'll miss it. The only reason why I know about this restaurant is because a gift card I got, which listed Sushi Basho as one of the restaurants I can use my card. When entering the door, diners are greeted by a big aquarium. It's actually a great way to stare at the tank and its creatures while waiting to be seated. A table of 8 was arranged and set for us, and in a couple of minutes, we were escorted to our table. Colorado can be brutal in the winter, and this evening, sitting right near the door, I felt chills each and every time the front door was open. However, the heat from the above heater did keep me warm every now and then. As we looked at the menu, I realized there are a lot of options for us to choose. If one doesn't like sushi, they can order some other types of food including their dinner boxes, which a friend and I decided to do. My dinner box came with a small side salad, a choice of miso or hot and sour soup, and the main meal box. Other friends ordered various types of sushi, boiled fish, and a bowl of pork katsu. All enjoyed their food and said they would go back again to eat here. My box meal contained rice, 4 pieces of coconut shrimp, gyoza, a variety of tempura including shrimp and taro, and the main star of the box: salmon with vegetables. Everything was delicious and I did eating everything, but the taro tempura was so good! Perfectly cooked to where, when bitten, it was crunchy on the outside and had great texture inside. It's hard to describe it, and my suggestion is to ask them to prepare one or two taro tempura so that you can have the same eating experience. I was very happy to be able to enjoy a great meal here. I would come back another day and try one of their lunch specials. My grade is a B+. read more

I wanted to like this place, but what a disappointment. The sushi here is some of the worst I've ever had. The fish was rank--overwhelmingly fishy in a way that screams it's nowhere near fresh. It left a sour, oily stench that stuck in my nose long after the meal. Absolutely disgusting. If you're expecting quality seafood, look elsewhere. This was borderline inedible. The fish tank near the front is disturbing--way too small for the oversized fish and lobster crammed in there. It's a sad sight of animal abuse when you walk in and sets the tone for what's to come. Dirty plates, staff couldn't care less, and decor that looks like it hasn't been updated since the early 2000s just sealed the deal. Only decent thing? I love Sushi Basho! This is one of my favorite sushi spots in CO. I live just right up the street from this restaurant so whenever I am craving sushi I just walk down to this reliable spot. The food is amazing! The fish taste fresh and the rolls are well made. The chefs are right there in the restaurant cutting and rolling the sushi for you. The service is great and they do a good job of taking care of everyone in the restaurant. They have some great lunch deals where you can get 2 or 3 rolls of sushi for around $12-$17 which is an awesome deal. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, it is clean, and well updated. I would recommend anyone and everyone to go try sushi basho and you will not be disappointed. read more

Been going here for years. Sushi is really good and some days it is even superb! For lunch I always get a 3 roll lunch and for $15 with soup, you can't beat it. The sushi chefs are speedy and service is usually pretty quick. If you expecting your sushi to be ready in a couple minutes don't go to a sushi restaurant. We've been there once before based on a recommendation and loved it. So for our 1 yr anniversary we went back. My wife got her food, the yummi jalapeño spicy tuna within 20mins. After over an hour my order still hadn't arrived. The wait staff repeatedly walked past us and noticed my drink needed a refil but never the empty space in front of me. Even with the owner verifying about 30mins into our time what i wanted. So We asked for the check, told them we were sad i was leaving with an empty stomach. No offer to comp or give a To go bag. Really disappointed as we thought we had found an honorable location. The two couples who had arrived after us finished their meals in the time i was still waiting for mine. Terrible service. Good quality is okay because the price is not expensive. My friend ordered rainbow roll and it was too fishy for her. She ate one piece and the second piece she had to split out. When she told the waitress, the waitress got very angry and took the plate away and didn't even let us explain or let us re-order anything. She was not even trying to get free food as she barely ate anything. Update: I left comment saying bad service on the receipt. She chased out to the parking lot and yelling at me, instead of having a second chance of hearing a customer's reason she chose yelling and saying I shouldn't say bad service. Sushi with my best has become a tradition when she's in town. So when we found ourselves seeking a new spot in Littleton, we did a quick search and decided to give Sushi Basho a try! SPACE/ATMOSPHERE: Outside, Sushi Basho offers a small parking lot and a patio space that appears to be mostly enclosed. Inside, is modern and dimly lit as I've come to expect from most sushi places during dinner. While they have speakers on the wall, they don't make use of them, which made for an odd atmosphere/experience. DRINKS: I always opt for a Sapporo with my sushi order, so I was happy to find it on their menu. They offer a variety of other beverages, including Japanese novelty drinks, for those looking to try something a little different. BITES: We ordered a small feast for the four of us. We started with crab cheese wontons and yellowtail jalapeño. Then we ordered a variety of rolls including: spicy kani, California, Philadelphia, spicy tuna, 007, scallop, and another special roll! All the rolls tasted fresh! The spicy kani and 007 rolls were my favorites for sure! One of the dishes my friend ordered came with a small soup and salad, both were lackluster. SERVICE: The service was unfortunately where we found ourselves most wanting. Our waiter didn't come back to our table to check if we needed anything after we got our meal. Super cheap prices for their rolls, specifically the 6 piece rolls they offer! Got 24 rolls (2 things of California, 1 veggie & an Alaskan roll) as well as some miso soup (less than 5 bucks) for less than $30 in total! The sizes of the sushi are great as well! Filled me up and felt fresh as well, will certainly be coming back. Ordered take-out but the staff from the few encounters I had getting the food was friendly & welcoming. Updated: Back again 3 weeks later and still amazing! Pics included this time: grilled squid, veg tempura app, sushi/sashimi w fatty yellowtail and salmon again. Fresh wasabi on the menu too tonight. Finally tried this place last night and it was SO GOOD! We ordered one of the specials as an appetizer: miso black cod with vegetables, which were perfectly cooked with proper seasoning and fresh and tender vegetables. We also got the vegetable tempura appetizer, which was also cooked perfectly with a nice sample of veggies (not jut root veggies). I am a very picky sushi eater and rarely get rolls: the fatty salmon and yellowtail were AMAZING! Based on previous reviews, I am assuming they have new wait staff. We love Sushi Basho, and come here regularly. Sushi Basho is a great neighborhood sushi spot, located on the tail of Downtown Littleton. While you shouldn't expect upscale dining, as the building is older, it is my favorite of the more affordable, local options. The best thing about Sushi Basho is their core staff. Billy has become a personal favorite of ours, and is always smiling and happy to see us. We love chatting with him when we come. There is also a woman usually working there whose name I have never gotten, but she is the sweetest. She has brought toys and candies to my children at the table and always makes sure to smile and say hi. We always stop at the nearby McDonald's before coming to get a happy meal for our toddler, who won't eat anything on a sushi menu, and the servers have never shamed us or made us feel bad for it, and love to see our kids and give them attention. While the staff is amazing, the fish is also great. We get sushi about once a week, and alternate between Sushi Basho and a higher end restaurant in the area, depending on the occasion. Sushi Basho offers more affordable sushi, but still brings the quality. When giving a star count, I am evaluating Sushi Basho for what it is (an affordable neighborhood spot), versus an overall rating of a sushi restaurant, as of course, a higher end location where you pay double is going to be a different dining experience. To me, as your regular neighborhood spot, Sushi Basho can't be beat. The fish is always great quality and consistent, the rolls are packed and full, the sake is always the perfect temperature, and the bill always hovers around $100, even when you order liberally. We recently tried another new sushi spot in the area, and it made us more appreciative of this haunt. I have picked up sushi from here on a number of occasions - and it's good. There's some creative/fun rolls to choose from. I normally order ahead and it's ready by the time I drive there (around 20 min). I ordered tonight - and asked for it to be ready ASAP. The suggested ordering app (beyond menu) said the estimated time would be 40 minutes. I walked in and the order wasn't ready. The restaurant had people in it - but was not full (multiple open tables). No one acknowledged me when I walked in. A few min later, someone walked up to me holding a takeout bag and asked if x order was mine (it wasn't) - asked my name - then walked away. I was essentially ignored after that. After an hour had passed since placing the order - I asked for an update and they apologized and said they were working on it. The man next to me had been waiting for an hour and ten minutes (and noted it was the third time he had the same experience). I finally received my food an hour and ten minutes after ordering. While the sushi may be good - this is the first (and last) time I will ever wait over an hour for takeout. I also personally feel there is no excuse for poor customer service. It does not cost anything to be kind - greet your customer - and communicate. On to the food. I ordered the edamame, rainbow maki, mango roll and salmon sashimi. Everything was good - the fish seemed very fresh. The sashimi was a larger cut of salmon - and delicious (photos attached). I would not recommend ordering take out from here. Maybe the dining room experience is better (quite frankly I probably could have sat down and eaten faster vs. waiting for the takeout). A local favorite, they have the best-and biggest-sushi rolls, and the menu is LONG. You can find pretty much anything you like on their extensive list of sushi rolls, and they have some reallly great veggie rolls. Every roll is made to order and everything is super fresh. This round we got the Lucky Roll, Volcano Roll, and Tasty Roll, Chicken Katsu, Thai Fried Rice and the Kobi Bowl. The food was quick and delicious as always. I visited here several tomes a looong time ago and then more recently twice. My first most recent visit was more impressive than the second, so it warranted a second visit. On the second most recent visit I had a few pieces of not-so-fresh sashimi in my chirashi. The texture and flavor was off and I should have mentioned it to the server but she seemed to have done a disappearing act for a bit, so I ended up just pressing on with eating the second one of the same fish in hopes it was better, but to my disappointment it wasn't. As with Toast, the next door breakfast place, the tables are very close together and atmosphere in general somewhat congested/community table like (since the tables were so close). I love this place!! The food is delicious! They have some really unique delicious rolls!! (My personal favorite is anything with white tuna or fatty salmon). The service is quick and very good! The staff is all very nice! And you can't beat the prices they have and for such good quality. First time my husband and I visited we ended up going back the next day it was so good lol. And the location is great too because it's just at the end of downtown Littleton which is a lovely place to walk around and shop or grab a drink afterwards!
