I'm giving this place a 4 star rating because the food was really good and the location was easy to get to. If this place does get busy, I would say parking might be a little hard but considering it was my first time to this restaurant I am unaware of how busy they may get. I felt the service was very slow. When I walked in, there was probably 4-5 other people in the restaurant. The lady sat me right in front and gave my friend and I water. We sat and ordered right away. It took us 35-45 minutes to get our food and we only ordered 4 rolls. The lady who was our server was really friendly and was on top of filling our drinks. We got 2 caterpillar rolls, a spicy tuna and something wig. As I mentioned before the food was really good. I actually got a celebration roll after we finished our food because I was still hungry I would have ordered more however I thought it would take forever so I just stuck with one last roll. I have to say the Celebration roll was probably the best. Comparing this place to other sushi places I have been, I would say their rolls are on the slender side. For the wait and how small the rolls were, I would probably give this place 3 and a half stars. Since they don't deserve exactly 3 stars, I will round up. I got the sushi special # 3 and a statue of liberty. This was a 4.9 experience. I dread not giving this a 5! When i first came in and sat at the bar the chef was on the phone. This was off putting. When my order came in he looked at me and said " all for you?!" Lol. I ordered alot! The sashimi was wonderful! Fresh and the texture just right. Ive had nicer cut sushi but the taste was their. The roll was spicy with nice fresh crad and avacado. Wonderful! I had the cabernet saivignon with my sushi and it was light and satisfying but nothing to really brag on. Next time ill go white. I dig this little place. It's not fancy, but it's nice and clean and simple inside. The food is pretty straight-forward Japanese. A reasonable selection of sushi, noodles and the typical things expected in a Japanese restaurant. The service isn't fancy, but they are polite. They also run ads regularly through the Hooked App. It used to be as much 45% off, but now they only discount 25% during certain times of the day. read more

Sushi Bar (in Indy) is one of my favorite sushi spots in Indiana. I've always seen Sushi Bar in Bloomington and been skeptical. After deciding I don't like any other sushi option in Bloomington whatsoever, I checked Sushi Bar out. It was amazing. It had the same menu as the one in Indianapolis & more. It definitely has the freshest tasting fish in Bloomington and the variety of rolls... amazing. Plus, I've only had it takeout so I'm sure it's even better in person. I can't tell you how much I love sushi bar. We are moving soon and I am devastated to move away from this place. Their spicy girl, tiger, spider wig, and 2009 rolls are absolutely to die for. Their spicy Mayo, pineapple, jalapeño sauce, and shrimp tempura combos in their rolls sounds so weird but it's the best flavor combination I've ever tasted. Service is sometimes slow and occasionally I get a wrong roll but it is by far my favorite sushi roll flavor combos I've ever had. Don't miss out on this complete gem if you are here and like sushi. Atrocious. That is the first thing that appears in my mind when I think, see, or hear of Sushi Bar. This "restaurant" left a terrible taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. Before we dive into the food, let's discuss the service. The service at Sushi Bar was, in a word, abysmal. Upon entering the restaurant, we did not get a warm greeting from a host or hostess. Instead, we were greeted by a 5-minute wait to be acknowledged! The host that did greet us was either in a grumpy mood or had zero people experience, as they made no eye contact and addressed with a disgusting attitude. When we finally were directed to our table, we were then addressed by three different waiters, asking for our drinks. After we finally placed our order, we found ourselves having to get up four times over the course of 1 and a half hours to make sure they knew "we are still here!" Once the waiter served the food, we noticed one of the members of our party had still not received his food. Again, we had to notify the staff that they forgot an entire meal. A total of 1 hour and 40 minutes passed before the team from Sushi bar served all of our food. Now the food! Incredibly disappointed does not even begin to describe what we attempted to eat. I cannot speak on behalf of the people that were in my party; however, when I received my chicken and steak teriyaki combination, it was a disaster. The chicken was dryer than some deserts in Egypt, and the steak as a hurricane of pure pepper. This supposed "edible" entree that was placed in front of me was not even close to finished. Sushi Bar will forever remain in my mind. It will be a reminder that no matter what I eat in the future, it will never be as horrible as this. read more

Sushi is one of my favorite foods. However for me sushi is not a "dragon roll" or a "statue of liberty". For me sushi is raw fish. The sashimi here is on par with the rest of Indiana, (which means not very fresh, limited flavor and no Matt sushi doesn't need to be flown in from Japan to have flavor/be fresh) Sushi bar looks sketch outside and is inside. Okay, the way I see it is you have to look at this in reference to the rest of Indiana, and as a girl from smalltown Indiana I have tasted several sushis all over the state and they all suck except for, like, one in Columbus. So with that in mind: this is really good. We're in a landlocked state for goodness sake--we can't really expect freshly-caught-tuna-from-Lake-Michigan. ...As far as I'm aware, anyway. My roommate and I get this food about once every few weeks because we're naught but poor college students, but we love the Dynamite Roll and the Sun Roll, and the white tuna nigiri is fantabulous. We've also been trying out things recently, and I particularly like the sweet potato maki, the cucumber maki. On top of that, I HIGHLY suggest their side salad -- the dressing they put on it is different from the ginger dressing I've had in most other sushi restaurants, and I could seriously drink that stuff. It's sweet and tangy all in one. The banana tempura ice cream is also pretty good. The service is almost always mediocre at best, though they have come to recognize me and my roommate and so thus treat us very well in comparison to others I've noticed. It takes forever to get your sushi but, honestly, I kind of expect that from a sushi place -- if my sushi takes two minutes to get out to me, THEN I'm worried. If it takes forever, I feel like more care has been put into it. I'm not sure if it has or anything, but it makes me feel like it has and that's really what matters in the long run. I'm not a gourmand, and I really don't think 99% of college students are either. The staff might not be the best, but they are honest -- like when I was trying Sake, the girl told me that it came in tiny bottles and I thanked her for that...but wanted a tiny bottle anyway. The owner is absolutely adorable and friendly, too, so I suggest talking to him for a bit if you can. Also, I've heard people complaining about them writing tips on to carryout orders and all I have to say is that for sushi bars a large chunk of the tip often goes to the people who prepare the sushi -- not the servers -- so um, don't be a jerk and actually give a tip to the people who made your food! There isn't much sweet deal sushi in Bloomington, but Sushi Bar makes some good, not breaking the wallet, sushi. Sure, the service is slow, the interior is boring, and looks super shady, but the private rooms are nice for sake bombing, and the place does host a nice private function. Someone mentioned this as a Korean owned bar, but I know Andy (the owner), and he is from Hong Kong. Just so the information is correct. He's also a very nice guy. Five stars for some of the most consistent and expert sushi I've had in the Midwest. I did the rounds at one point and found Sushi Bar to be the most inviting and the best value. (It's midwest sushi, the freshness doesn't change all that much, sadly.) Bruce, the main sushi chef, has over 13 years of experience, and is amazing, and super nice. The junior chef has never really impressed me, and probably leads to a lot of their less than stellar reviews. We were very skeptical at first as we were the only car in the parking lot at 5 pm on a Saturday but we went in anyway. We were seated at a booth, which are really nice because their are walls separating each booth so you're not back to back with others. We got our drinks immediately but we waited about 15-20 for her to come back to take our order. At this point there was only us and another table there. We ordered an appetizer, our meals, and one beer. My boyfriends salad and beer came almost immediately after we ordered it. The appetizer took another 10 minutes. our meals came out over 30 minutes after that. I ordered two rolls and my boyfriend got the bento box which came with rice, chicken teriyaki, and a sushi roll. He wanted a fork to eat with his rice but our waitress never came back. I had two spicy rolls and my water was completely gone. It was never refilled. After we both had finished she came with the check and still did not offer us a refill. I showed her the $5 off $20 offered for the check in on yelp and she said they no longer take that offer which was odd. This is the best sushi in Bloomington. We enjoyed the seaweed salad, shumai, cucumber roll, spicy tuna, and unagi avocado. Every time I've been here, the food quality has been consistent. After calling the restaurant and explaining the order was wrong, I was told it was my fault for saying to roll wrong. I got a dragon roll instead of dynamite like I had said. To me, these sound very different. I was not offered a credit, or for them to make the correct order. Only that it was my fault. Not going back anymore. Honestly, this place has gone completely downhill in the last few years. I've lived in Bloomington for 10 years and I used to love Sushi bar. However as I write this, I have been waiting almost an hour for a few rolls and have only had a waitress come by once. When we first were seated, the waitress had no idea what drink options were available besides coke and Sprite. They don't have a substantial food menu anymore. Their beef teriyaki is a side option now instead of a full dinner like they used to have. If you want anything other than sushi, I suggest going elsewhere. The sushi itself is ok, but not the best. It definitely isn't worth an hour wait. Next time I want sushi, I'll probably opt to choose Japonee or Sushi Haru. Both have substantially better menus and the service is always great. read more

Came here last night - wish I could review the food, but we were never served after waiting for over an hour. I worked in the restaurant business for three years, so I hardly ever give one star reviews, but with something like this I'm not holding my tongue. We had to ask for waters twice before we got any. We turned our sushi paper in about 15 minutes after we got there. We had to flag the waitress down to even get her to come over to our table to get it. After an hour of sitting there and seeing a table that had come in probably 30 minutes after us get their sushi, we called a waitress over to ask about where our food was. We had been at the restaurant for around an hour and 15 minutes at this point. She said she'd go check. She comes back 5 minutes later with a blank sushi paper saying "They're making it right now but she needed to make sure the order was right." AKA They lost our order and had not even started making it. We told her if they hadn't started making our order we were going to leave. She said "no no they are making it" so I reluctantly filled out the sushi paper for the 2nd time and gave it to her. What does she do? Walks right over to the POS and starts inputting our order. We obviously left at that point. This is by far the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. I will never come back here. read more

Food is great and cheap but the waiters are awful, they take like 10/15/20 minutes to get your food or even drink. They also didn't get me ikura like I asked and gave me unagi instead of anago, they also don't ask you what you want to drink unless you tell them. Great sushi, but terrible service. Slow, terrible waiter too. Was never asked if I wanted anything to drink, the man walked to the table and just stood there. Same with when ordering food. Never came to check on me, never asked if I even wanted anything else. He just dropped the check off when I was going to order more but decided to leave instead because of this. I was the only one in the restaurant at that. Do not come with a family or children. They played inappropriate, terrible rap music the entire time. Open until 2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. As of spring 2018, you can't turn left into the parking lot if you're on 10th heading west (from 46). You have to drive a ways, make a u-turn, and come back heading east on 10th. And there's no entrance if you're on 46 headed to or from the mall. So good luck getting there! Have eaten here and gotten to go several times; sushi has been fine and reasonably portioned. Pretty much everything(?) is on permanent "sale" now so while portions look smaller they're also cheaper. Staff seem determined to be as SLOW as possible, leaving me waiting 15-20 minutes for a few pieces of sushi, even if nobody else is there and they don't seem to be working on to go orders. read more

I've been enjoying their huge selection of veggie sushi since the Sushi Bar opened. My favorites are the veggie roll (kampyo, oshinko, pickles best, avocado, etc), the avocado tempura roll and the inari roll. They've also got a fantastic udon soup. Super cheap for a large, delicious serving. I've heard mixed reviews from friends on their regular sushi. I can't personally speak to it. All I know is, if you've got a vegetarian in your midst, Sushi Bar is the place to go. The service is inconsistent but it always at least cordial. read more

We sat in bench seats and they were quite comfy but a little difficult to slide into. Service was a little slow considering how dead they were but it was worth the wait. 5 stars?! Are you people nuts?! I came here for lunch on a thurs, they should have had they're fresh stuff just in, ready for the weekend. I had the spicy salmon, Hoosier roll, and the hamachi sashimi. The Hoosier roll was fine, the fresh avocado probably helped improve the overall quality of the roll. The spicy salmon was not very good, a few pieces of salmon escaped the roll and when I ate them solo it was very evident it was not fresh and pretty fishy actually. Lastly, the hamachi, that's not even close to sashimi grade, it was grey and opaque. It's supposed to whitish pink, somewhat translucent. I was walking through Kroger last week and the sushi chef asked me if I wanted to try something he just made, it was light years above and beyond what this place is putting out.
