Stopped here after shoveling on a snow day a couple weeks ago. Was heading for tacos down the block but got parking right across from Bada. Heard great things so it was agreed it was a sign We were dressed appropriately for shoveling but not dining out at this rather upscale spot. Didn't matter to them. We were greeted and seated warmly. Starving without reading glasses I ordered veg tempura and something that looked like "trust me". Tempura came out quickly and the vegetables were incredibly fresh and held their flavor and texture. The "Trust me" on the menu was a great blind pick. Started with a small but incredible amuse Bouche served in an enormous recessed bowl. I detected crab, salmon roe, micro greens and a sauce I would have licked from the bowl. Next course Sashimi. The quality of the fish was excellent. You could visibly see the beautiful fat in the tuna and salmon and it did actually melt in our mouths. The accompanying whiter fish served were just as delicious though I could not pinpoint which ones they were. At this point I knew I was in good hands and ordered a spicy tuna and salmon skin hand roll for both of us. Then the sushi course arrived. Same top rate quality as the sashimi and expertly formed and served. Our hand rolls arrived after and were exceptional. Spicy tuna was done with the finer parts of the fish instead of the usual scraps and incredibly fresh in a tasty chili oil instead of a greasy aioli. The skin for salmon skin hand roll was other worldly. Skin was crisp yet caramelized to the point of sticking to your teeth. And I mean that in a very very good way! Our waitress was quick, efficient and polite. We liked her and the rest of the staff very much. Will we go back? Definitely. Is it worth the drive? Yes. Should you go? Absolutely. This is some of the best sushi I have had in a long time. I love the atmosphere of the whole restaurant, and the staff is extremely friendly. It is always a good sign when everyone in the place seems to be regulars and the waiters know them all by name. Their menu is definitely different than most sushi places, they seem to be Korean owned, because they have some Korean style dishes. We started off the night with Avocado fries, or really tempura Avocado. They were awesome, crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside. The dipping sauce was a spicy mayo concoction that had just the right bite that was complimented by the sweet avocado. For dinner I had the chirashi, the fish was fresh, melt in your mouth, greatness. And the rice at the bottom was cooked to perfection and had the right sticky consistency. My girlfriend had some rolls, which were more fish than rice (how it should be). If you are looking for a change of pace sushi spot, you need to try out Bada. You will not be disappointed. read more

This place was so good! I was in the area for work and here alone both times I came. I sat at the bar and had the same bartender both times with great service! I had the tuna tartare wrapped in avocado and it was so good! Very flavorful and the portion was really big. The chips that came with it were crispy and tasty though I do wish there were more of them. I also got the clam soup and it was very garlicky and good! It's mostly broth but was very comforting on a rainy night. The second time I went I had the fried avocados and the salad with a chirashi assortment on top. The avocado was really good! I thought it would be too greasy and fatty to enjoy but I ended up loving it. The friedness is a light thin batter. I had less good feelings about the salad because of the fish was fishier than I like. I will say though that it was huge, so would have been a perfectly satisfying meal by itself. Also tried a cocktail with merlot in it which sounded gross but ended up being really good! This place seems like it gets a lot of regulars too. Both times I was there, the owner, or possibly some other high level manager, greeted many of the customers by name as they came in and had friendly conversations. It was cute. Best sushi (maki) in the area. I have ordered here and eaten in (pre-COVID) numerous times and it's always been a good experience. You cannot choose a bad roll here- they're all on point and the spicy tuna rolls here have pretty much ruined all other spicy tuna rolls from other restaurants in the area. As soon as I wasn't pregnant anymore, this was one of my first meals for both pregnancies. I highly recommend the Love Rolls, the Godzilla, Ish R, Sunfire, and New York. read more

Excellent sushi in an authentic atmosphere. They have great cocktails as well. The service is very attentive. I like their combos which come with soup and salad. The salad has a traditional ginger dressing that's really good. I've yet to have a bad meal or experience at Sushi Bada. They pay attention to detail. The downside is street parking, (which can be challenging). They're always busy, so it's best to make reservations. It's a bit on the pricey side, but not unreasonable. This place is hip, fresh & fly! From the cool beats to the creative dishes, this has definitely become my new favorite sushi spot. And if you are there on a night when the bartender is there, just watching him make your drink will be an experience in itself. He is always creating new concoctions. The Yuzu Mule (similar to a Moscow Mule) is a must try! Starting with the starters. Gyoza: can't go wrong. Negimaki: very hot plate, but delicious goodness on a chilly night. Salmon Skin Salad: perfect if you like salty, large enough for two people and the dressing makes the dish. Crispy Rice: if you are a rice lover like me and can handle a little kick, then this will be your jam! Moving on to entrees. Bulgogi Don: mouthwatering marinated beef with onions over sticky sushi rice . Bulgogi Udon: the same delicious marinated beef with thick Udon noodles and broth you'll want to drink. Sushi Tasting: elegantly made and perfect if you want to broaden your sushi palate (see photo). And now for the rolls. I'm not big on spicy or fruit in my rolls, so I've tried the Kani, Tuna, Rainbow, Dragon, Mahwah, J-5, Rainbow Press, Spider & Black Spider. All taste fresh and are served in a fancy way. Had dinner at one of my favorite sushi spots in Suffern NY. They recently moved about two weeks ago to a larger space. Amazing decor and the good was more divine. I'm giving this place a 2 star and I feel I'm being generous. The ambiance of the place is nice at least, although a bit dim. And I can understand that for trying to set a relaxing mood, but it also means you can't see the color of the fish/ presentation as well. The food and pricing... I have to say this is a really annoying trend when I try places that aren't Japanese owned/operated. I have NO PROBLEM paying for good sushi if what is being served matches the price point and is perfect in freshness, color, quality, presentation, etc. That would be totally fine. This place has the higher asking price, but is totally lacking when it comes to all of that. They charge by the single piece. Maguro for example at $4.80 per piece. Uni and ikura were somewhere around $9.00 per piece. Etc. Typically in a Japanese owned sushi place that would be the price for 2 pieces. So again, I'm thinking to myself, okay, this is fine, but I expect all aspects to be on point. It wasn't. Every nigiri roll was very small, looked like it was rolled with too heavy a hand (too much pressure on the fish and rice), the ikura I could see was VERY light on roe, the uni literally looked and tasted like it was what you buy from H-Mart and again, very light in serving... which might have been a good thing with those rolls because it was very mediocre to bad. At $9 per roll I would expect Hokkaido uni. The meat to be unbroken/ unbruised, and very neatly put together. I had a bunch of different types that I normally eat and they were all underwhelming in all aspects that you see a Japanese owned restaurant take pride in. Even the ginger on the side looked mediocre as if it was an afterthought just thrown on the side of the plate with no purpose. The side of ginger was small, the slices were tiny and crushed, flavor was weak. The wasabi... just commercial paste wasabi, not the real type that is shaved fresh from the root. Compacted into a tight, little, sugar-dot-looking, playdough pile. Also, super weak in flavor, but I figured as much as soon as I saw it on the plate. Again, I have NO ISSUE with paying higher prices for good sushi, but the details MATTER. That's part of what sushi is all about. The focus on perfection for every plate. I left with the feeling like this place charges like they are authentic/ have some degree of prestige, but everything falls short at the end of the hashi. Bro, the green tea was from a tea bag! TEA BAG GREEN TEA PACKETS!? IN A JAPANESE RESTAURANT!?!? That I have to pour and mix in the cup myself!? Come on with this cheesiness. The menu said $6 per cup. I looked at my Japanese mother and we both had a wtf moment. And I said, mom it's fine... I just expect this to be really good green tea is all... SMH... Wonderful place . Beautiful atmosphere. I was very with the selection of unique choices. Avocado fries were amazing. Very light and delish. The geisha roll and the mahwah roll were outstanding as well. Kani salad was the only item that left me a bit disappointed . Should have had more crab but it was mostly lettuce . We will be back next time def want to try the avocado bomb So my updated review is based solely on the god awful service.. the food is amazing , true perfection but after our last visit I know I will not be having their amazing creations again... We had a 630 reservation and we arrived at 6:10. We went to check in and the nasty little host says "well your VERY early" in an condescending tone. We weren't demanding to be sat we just wanted to tell them we were there! We got our table and proceeded to wait 25 minutes for anyone to come over! That's right , not even a glass of water! However the waiter went to the same table 7 times (yes I counted) and apparently he knew them. At this point I was furious and called over the nasty host and asked what was going on. He took our drink orders (another ten mins) and finally the useless waiter came over. We had to ask for our beers again and also our green tea twice . Awesome sushi, fresh, succulent, buttery. Modern atmosphere. Hung out at the bar for a while and had some amazing Japanese scotch, but if David is there, ask for the scotch cocktail... Christmas in a glass! It comes with its own mini camp fire need I say more? The smell was its own experience and then the taste, so many layers. Prices are in the mid range to high for sushi but the quality is worth it. Would definitely comeback, great for special occasions or a Romantic date night. read more

This review is for a pick up from last week, I did not actually eat there. I was craving some soosh on my way to work and just googled what wa close and this place had some pretty good google reviews. The website is a little confusing, but I get sushi often enough to know what to expect around lunchtime. The lady did not seem that nice over the phone. I was getting the lunch special for 3 rolls, and normally I would not expect to pay more than $12 for this and it comes with a soup AND a salad. I will say the inside is really nice and well kept. Bar looks nice and it was fairly busy for a Friday afternoon. I would give the service zero stars if I could. Not only was the lady not nice over the phone, she says my lunch order was $19 something which is crazy. So I questioned it politely and she gives me a menu and just points at it (bc she was on the phone). I pay, and she is still on the phone and does not have the decency to tell the phone person to hold on while she gets my bag. Sick of waiting, I just go and grab the bag from the bar and walk out. When I get to work, the container of miso was not closed properly and partially spilled and of course she didnt put any soy sauce. 3 rolls, no soy sauce. Thanks lady. Very small place with too many tables so you're on top of other folks! Food was OK - nothing exceptional. Some attitude from the wait staff because my husband was asking for "burning" hot sake! Felt like we just need to take it the way they offer and not complain. If you order what's on the menu they will bring it to you and move on... I've been to what must be 100 sushi restaurants, if not more, and Sushi Bada is by far the best. 5* Manhattan places have nothing on Bada. It's unreal, and frankly ridiculous, how good it is. Everytime I'm out of the City, I make sure to stop by here. You can't go wrong. Freshest and best variety of fish, amazing prices given the quality, amazing service.... It's really not fair how good it is. The 'Trust Me' and Suffern Rolls are the best things on the menu. I really wish I lived closer. The atmosphere is great. It's trendy and has a up scale feel to it. I went there with a friend of mine who came home to visit. She suggested it because she would get their take out delivery when. She used to live there but had never dined in. The service was OK. The hostess was not at her post and was gone long enough for us to wonder whether after a certain time we would have to seat ourselves and ignore the "wait to be seated sign." An area of concern is if you are in heels or are wearing shoes without a grip you may slip. I almost took a header on the way to our table and an employee dropped a glass due to the choice of flooring. The food was superb. It was fresh and delicious. The portions where more than generous. I think the service may need some improvement and if I were to return I'd probably be sure to have on sneakers or UGGs to avoid out of pocket deductible costs in my health insurance! read more

HOLD THE FREAKIN' PHONE, GUYS. I just met my new favorite sushi place and I am so unbelievably excited. Without a doubt the most delicious, fresh, creative, elegant, overall superb sushi eating experience I have had in a long time. And I've been around. Sushi hoe, for sho. Started the meal ordering a couple drafts of Sapporo, one of my favs and never get to have it on draft, so that was a real treat. Also ordered a large saki, so it was good we decided to uber. The large is definitely large. Next time we will get the small. But, woo! For appetizer, decided on the tuna with avocado and crunchy seaweed. Unbelievably tasty, and outstandingly fresh. The presentation was the best part. Love the rectangular plated planks they use, so fancy. Had a tough time picking which rolls to get, but we ordered the alaskan roll (boring and typical, but don't hate), spicy scallop roll, and the naruto cucumber wrapped roll. Amazing. Blown away. Stupendous. End scene. We were still hungry after the three rolls, so we ordered the Geisha roll. Memoirs were flowing, friends. So interesting and delicious. Thought the mango and apple would be too sweet, but NO it was not. Can't imagine eating sushi without apple in it now, who would have known. Will admit it was a bit pricy, but absolutely worth the creativity and talent of Sushi Bada. BADA bing, bada. ILY. read more

I've never been the biggest fan of sushi. I merely like it, and sometimes order it as a healthy-ish option. I was up in Suffern, looking for a great place to eat, and this shows up. The dishes looked amazing, the reviews were great, so off I went. Its got good decor, nice vibe, and the service was impeccable. I had vegetable dumplings (duh), which was great. The dumpling itself was thin, the filling was flavorful. and I gulped it down in 1 minute. The spicy edemame was so amazing. Made with 7 japanese spices and butter, I sucked at the pods until I had gotten all the spice off. I hate when restaurants have edamame on the menu, and do absolutely nothing with it. This was certainly not the case here. The spring rolls were also really delicious, crunchy on the outside, fresh tasty vegetables on the inside, and a sweet and spicy sauce that I was searching for something to dip into that after we were done with the rolls. I had a design roll which I suppose in other places would be the specialty roll. My k-6? (k something) was really delicious. My friend had a "love" roll, which was better than mine. Truly amazing sushi. Another friend had a rice bowl, which I had some of, and I really think that out of all of the dishes, regardless how amazing they all were, that was the best. For some reason they failed to ask us if we want dessert, and we had planned to, but having the check made us change our mind. Both our losses. This recently relocated sushi venue to my town was a welcome entry. First, the vibe is like a cool NYC hip bar, great music in the background. Not too loud and you can still carry on a conversation. Second, the wine, sake and drink selections are tops! We have tried sake by the bottle and hot sake, all above average quality. Their martinis also do not disappoint. Third, I urge you to try their Bull Fries, which are deliciously crisp waffle fries served with bulgogi and kimchi salsa, I swoon! On three occasions we ordered a variety of sushi which were all on point. However, the one that stands out among the bunch is the Red Hot Chili Pepper roll, which contains spicy tuna, asparagus, jalapeño, tuna, and yellow tobiko. I can't wait to come back again! read more
