This place offers good sushi in a cozy neighborhood location. The fish quality is always good and they have a wide variety as well. Usually we are able to get seated quickly if we come early in the evening.

Came here for lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. We went for the 15 piece Omakase. Service was very good and the food was excellent. I would recommend this place.

Really enjoyed the omakase at this former hotpot place which is a pretty good omakase deal, and the ease of getting a table surprisingly on a Saturday night. Fresh, top-of-the-line fish and such a straightforward menu which I love. Not rushing back as it wasn't wildly creative or interesting, but definitely a delicious, reliable, well-priced sushi meal in the best neighborhood

Amazing experience! It was like a whole show - this made our evening! Taste, presentation, ambience- everything was great. Thank you Chef! We will be coming back every time we are in NYC

I love a good omakase and we walked past this place randomly one night and it looked so cute inside so we very easily booked a reservation for 8 pm that Saturday (they literally had every single time slot open). We were seated right away and were offered a table at the side of the restaurant or seats at the sushi bar. My regret of the evening was not sitting at the sushi bar counter, I think that takes the experience from good to great being able to see the chefs create each piece and put each bite in front of you. Instead our 15 piece omakase ($100) was served in two "courses" and made it a little bit less special. I was also a little disappointed the meal didn't come with dessert or anything to sort of "finish it off" the way I've had at other omakase places. For $100 a person I do want to feel like it is a really special experience, which i think this place lacked. The other reason I knocked a star was the unbelievably obnoxious table of men next to us who were screaming the entire evening, being rude, making crude comments, and not once did the staff say anything to them. It sort of ruined our experience unfortunately. I will likely come back to give this place another try.

I cannot say enough good things about my family's experience at Sushi 456! It was my family's first omakase experience and Lin, the owner and our chef at the bar was amazing. We sat next to two different groups of regulars that clearly return here because of the hospitality and intimacy. He toasted with us for my birthday and was so kind!! We did the 10 piece omakase which was so fresh and delicious. Every bite was simple but so tasty! All of the fish melted in my mouth and it was impossible to choose a favorite. We will definitely be returning for the service and coziness of the restaurant!

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. So glad we found this place! Did the 15 piece Omakase for $100 and then ordered an extra piece of CA uni (omakase came with Maine Uni), which blew my mind away, and then a spicy scallop hand roll (omakase came with a tuna hand roll, which was delicious), which was also delicious and had a nice crunch to it. Especially loved that it was BYOB! $10 corkage fee per person. Also was impressed by the wood of the sushi bar. Will definitely be coming back here frequently! Highly recommend.

A quiet, hidden gem that delivers on its sushi. Come here now! Here's what you need to know about Sushi 456: 1. The nigiri specials and lunch specials have a decent amount of food and fresh fish. The omakase is also a pretty good deal at $100. 2. I say this as someone who has done a handful of omakases: THIS IS THE BEST EEL NIGIRI IN NYC. 3. The staff are some of the nicest people. 4. Cute minimalist space. Overall, it's just excellent sushi, especially for the price point and being in the West Village. If you like eel, go here now!

If you want a casual experience with ok sushi, this place is not bad. Ingredients are fresh and service is good. $70 for the Omakase Nigiri (10 piece + 1 hand roll) is considered relatively affordable for omakase. The sushi are served in 2 plates of 5 pieces each - this is NOT your typical Omakase experience. I wasn't impressed by the sushi. They are uneven in size and some pieces are tiny. The rice is a bit hard / potentially undercooked. And too much soy sauce makes the sushi taste salty. For me the cheaper price point doesn't justify coming here again. There are plenty of good restaurants that offer under $100 omakase experience and high quality sushi. This is not one of them.

    Horrible "Omakase" Experience

The service is horrendous here! My friends and I came here on a weekday night. There were empty tables, so it wasn't too busy. The nice thing about this place is that it's BYOB (no corkage fee) and there's a liquor store across the street. We brought 2 bottles of wine and decided to order the Omakase. Their "Omakase" included 15 pieces of Nigiri and a handroll for $100. Our table of 4 decided to all go-in on this. So, for Omakase, I'm used to sitting at the bar and watch the sushi chef make the pieces in front of me. It's also nice being able to engage in some small conversation. I'm also used to getting one piece at a time. At Sushi 456, we were seated at a table (not at the bar) and was served all the pieces over two plates. This was definitely not the type of Omakase experience I'm used to (or what most New Yorkers are used to). It might as well have just been called a "sushi platter of 15 pieces" on their menu. The worst part of the dinner experience was that we had just finished our "Omakase" and was just finishing up our last bottle of wine. Not even 90 minutes into the dinner, the waitress came over to our table and told us that another group was waiting. We had just paid a $500 bill. We weren't even there for that long and there was another table that was also finishing up. From reading other reviews, it doesn't seem like this was a one-off incident. In general, it's not great hospitality to be rushed through (a pricey) dinner. The service was severely lacking and the experience was definitely not one I'd consider a traditional Omakase experience. I would not recommend this place.

Was a little afraid when we walked in at 6:45pm and were the only people in the restaurant. As soon as we sat, we began our journey of super fresh and delicious sushi. (And the place quickly filled up...) I got the 10 piece omakase + hand roll ($70) and my husband got the 15 piece omakase + hand roll ($100). Everything was so good, we ordered seconds of certain fish after our omakase was over. The standouts were the bonito with a crispy garlic chip on top, the king salmon quickly torched and brushed with wasabi and soy, and the toro hand roll which had scallions and Japanese yellow pickles chopped into it giving it a nice crunch. The eel avocado also had a surprising little crunch of a couple hidden small rice balls underneath. There were garnishes such as a little tiny pieces of shiso, some yuzu or a brush of soy, but nothing was overpowering. All done very very lightly to let the fish shine through. The rice was also pleasantly different from most sushi places I've been. Our hot tea and water were continuously filled to the top. Excellent service and friendly sushi chefs. Will absolutely return!

A brand new but old style sushi restaurant. You won't find sou sauce or California rolls at this place. If you're not a sushi aficionado I don't appreciate what these chefs can you give you. Don't expect a lot of creativity with Omakasa each dish is just one piece of sushi. 10 piece and one roll for $70 or 15 piece and one roll for $100. I don't have a liquor license yet which works great for me because he prepared to bring your own bottle of sake which saves you lots of money. Services fabulous reservations are recommended I will definitely be back. The only dish I didn't like was the octopus and the shrimp everything else was amazing. Even a wagu beef.

This place is a hidden gem in West Village! BYOB!! We had 15 courses, fish was really fresh, and loved every piece we had. Chef was friendly and we just loved that we found a nice/good/affordable omakase place in WV other than sushi on Jones. only minus was.. we were sitting right in front of the door and people kept asking chef if they had seats available as they walked in. They definitely need a front waitress/waiter to greet people. Anyway can't wait to return soon! highly highly recommend this place!

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.
