Surplus Center has good prices overall but sometimes there are surprises. Over the years I've bought air-cooled engines, electrical parts, and lots of hydraulic parts, usually being satisfied with what I received. This changed recently with a large hydraulic cylinder to use with an excavator thumb, 2" pins, 3" cylinder shaft, and around 40" stroke so not cheap to buy or ship! Initially I was happy with it but it failed due to the cylinder rod being HOLLOW, thus far weaker than the 3" spec suggested, and NOT something included in the description as it was the wrong part for the job! When contacted, Surplus Center claimed they didn't know anything about the specs in the description as it was no longer offered and basically danced around the issue. I asked for a discount on another cylinder or a break on shipping but they declined to help me in any way, it was a great thanks for being a customer for twenty plus years. It's sad when you can't rely on published specs in a description of industrial parts on a long extant supplier but you can't with these guys. If you buy parts from them, you MUST burn both your own and their time asking EVERY conceivable question as the descriptions are not to be trusted! read more

Placed an order, took 5 days for them to start processing the order, now an item is sold out and customer service cant help to send remainder of order. In fact, shopping with them is almost like Christmas, as their inventory is massive and the variety of items they offer is overwhelming. I ordered 2 parts from Surplus Center and they never showed up. I contacted them and I was told that there was a note from their chosen shipper who said it was undeliverable. Oddly, all my Christmas gifts arrived from the same shipper, the same week, so they were able to find my house. Surplus center automatically refunded a portion of the purchase price without EVER contacting me to let me know and said they wouldn't refund shipping even thou I was still trying to repurchase the product. Mika was pleasant and understanding however I was only given the option to buy it again and "PAY FOR SHIPPING AGAIN"! If it didn't show up the first time, why would I buy from them again especially when they aren't willing to help rectify the first shipping issue. I was given the tracking number and told it was my responsibility to contact the shipper! What a crooked company, I won't be buying from them in the future. read more

Customer service (Jake) was a complete joke. Ordered 20' of hydraulic hose. Never received it. Tracking said undeliverable. Had to reorder (using the exact same address), wait for them to receive the original order back before I would get a refund. The original order was for $148, but my refund was only $92. Yes, they made me eat the shipping charges!!!! When I called to get it resolved, they basically said "tough luck, that's our policy". Willing to give up many more future orders, rather than give me a full refund? Will never order from them again. Good work, Jake! read more

Bought a check valve and received a defective one. I emailed them and after 3 weeks no answer.

I purchased 3 hydraulic hoses of the same size for my tractor for what I normally pay for buying 1 locally. Substantial savings!

Sold defective product and then refused to stand behind it. I guess their advertised warranty is just for show. Stay Away!

Great customer service!! I purchased a treadmill motor for a lathe project from Surplus Center. When it arrived there was damage to the motor. I contacted customer service by email with photos of damage. They had a replacement motor shipped befor 9:30 AM the SAME day!! this is the best customer service I've ever seen. Merchandise was defective and when I asked to return they said they would have to send it in to the manufacturer and they would decide. Most places of business would exchange or refund. Not this place. read more
