When you first walk in the door, this shop appears to have the potential to be a small Williams…read moreSonoma or Sur la Table, but the similarities end when you spend a few moments trying to find something specific. Certain item sizes, colors, model variations, etc. are always "out of stock", leaving you frustrated that you wasted your time going to a brick-and-mortar store, and ultimately having to go home and order the product online. I tried to give this store a chance, but after many, many experiences like that over the course of several years, I have given up hope on Habitat entirely. I haven't been there for over a year, but the older (unfriendly) lady at the cash register outright lied to me about product availability, saying that a brand of bowl only came in the size and color they had in stock -- all while I was comparing other colors and sizes on my phone, available from vendors around the country. Sometimes they have something in stock in small quantities, and if you miss out, they may not have it again for months; and I don't mean obscure seasonal decorations, but cooking essentials that are needed year-round. Everyone complains that local stores are going out of business because of internet competition, but I think that's largely an excuse made by dud business owners. For example: right next door is Hobby Town USA which has an amazing supply of products, competitive prices with online giants, and the gumption to do special orders for rapid delivery if you need something they don't have. Habitat, by comparison, seems like a place that "wants to act" as if they're a serious cooking store, but then doesn't want to put in the effort or investment to stock the product quantities and varieties needed by true, hardcore foodies.

Very surprised no one's reviewed them yet. Habitat's been in Lincoln for ages; I have wedding…read moregifts from here. I really only check out the cooking side of the store; the home decor section is lovely but isn't what I came for. If you need several choices in size and brand for springform pans, or you want a wooden lemon reamer or a citrus zester, this is the place. They have free recipes set up in a drawer on a table; a select collection of cookbooks and foodie books; spices (Madagascar vanilla; no Tahitian, alas, but no one seems to carry that); a small selection of high-end chocolate bars; silicone baking sheets...well, it's a good gourmet cooking store and if that sounds like fun to you you'll love it.

Great place friendly. You will definitely have fun working with the employees here. I really care…read moreabout the customer service as well as the quality of work. Have always seen their commercials. I have a challenging bathroom addition that I wanted to see if…read morethey would entertain. I phoned to set up an appointment. When taking phone calls, most businesses would say, "Thank you for calling us. We would be happy to set up an appointment to take a look." In the end, they may not be able to do the work, but wouldn't you think they need to see it first? Not at re-bath. Instead of a welcoming phone call, this is what I got as I explained I wanted to add a bathroom to the basement of my rental home, "Are you the owner of the home?" (why else would I be calling and why does that matter?) "So you are saying we might have to work with concrete to add a drain? Oh you don't want to do that in a rental home or spend that much" (how does she know what I am willing to spend? She went on to tell me that their brand of items are expensive. Wouldn't you want to come see it and let me determine that for myself?) After her telling me what she thought I would and would not want to do, I finally told her back in a rude tone, that is for me to decide so do you want to have someone come out and look at it or not? In setting up the appointment, she then asked me what I do? (How about what day and time work best for you?) This female should not be answering your phones. Not how you gain potential business. You never know who is on the other end of the phone or what future projects they may have. I was so put off by the phone call, I knew that in the end I would not use Rebath, but I was going to at least have them come out and go to the work now. They did come out and the guy immediately told me it couldn't be done and they don't do this kind of work. I said you don't put in bathrooms? He said well yes, but we like everything to be roughed in already. He was very nice, but their commercials don't say, only call us after everything is basically done for us and we will insert a shower, etc. What re-bath doesn't realize, is that although this is a rental home, my husband and I are going to live there for a couple of months while our larger home is being completely remodeled, of which could have been another opportunity for Rebath. Thus, we are willing to spend a little more than necessary even though it is a rental home. If the initial phone call would have been pleasant and "let us take a look for you", maybe they would have been considered for our larger project. And by the way, it CAN be done. We have someone else starting the work to put in a full bathroom this summer in the house that Rebath said couldn't be done.
