Simple, but if you need big pizza or big subs near the beach, Surfside is decent. The subs come in a takeout container with chips and pickles, so you get a full meal for ~$11. I doubt much besides the location sets them apart from other pizza and subs shops in the area, but they make for a nice beach lunch. read more

Got into town late and my hosts suggested ordering a pizza from Surfside so we did. They ordered a large St. Peter's which is huge. Turned out they weren't planning on eating any. A quarter of the poor was a good sized meal. I made a lunch and two more dinners out of the leftovers! The pie was a nice combo of the usual sauce, cheese, and veg with sausage. Thin crispy crust. As a local of Gloucester, I had eaten a Sub from Surfside on one occasion. It was good and a bit overpriced compared to other sub shops in the area. Despite the price because the chicken salad was good (and mostly its vicinity to Long Beach Dairy Maid) we went back to try it again. last night's experience was ABSOLUTELY awful and I would never return again. I have worked in restaurant service for years and have never seen such a disorganized kitchen or poor customer service from what seemed to be the man in charge. First: We stood in line for over 30 minutes. There were only three people ahead of us. There is no streamlined system of pick up orders so each time a pick up order comes in, they cut the line of customers ordering to pay. Which does not help the line. In addition to this they have the girl at the cashier the same one packing up all the food and running around doing so many different tasks. Not her fault - poor management. Secondly, the entire time we were in line the delivery boy was struggling to confirm the address for a delivery order. The girl at the front desk nor any other staff tried to help him. He was on the phone with the customer when in fact the desk staff spelled the address incorrectly and treated him embarrassingly disrespectful when it was in fact not his fault. At this point a customer in line had to help him with the address because she knew of the area. To top it off we finally got close to the counter, and yes it was lobster roll night and the staff member on the phone had apparently sold the last lobster roll but so did the girl at the cashier. Mind you the problem was not the lobster roll special, we were not planning on ordering this. At this point the man who seemed to be in charge ran to the front and started yelling at all staff to figure out where the lobsters shall go. Mind you we had been waiting in line for OVER 30 minutes at this point. I clearly had frustration on my face because like I said before it wasn't as if the line was long there were three people ahead of us. He looked at us and yelled you're going to have to wait in a raised, offensive tone. We left. How dare someone speak to paying, patient customers like this?? I will never go back here after such poor management, disjointed pickup orders v. customers in line system and disrespect of both staff and customers. I recomend you don't either. read more

$9.10 for an Italian sub with no drink? Good sub but way overpriced. $10 for a Greek salad that you can get at market basket for $2.99, again way over priced. On Tuesdays they have an excellent lobster roll for $9.99. Bottom line, I only go on Tuesdays. read more

Ordered a large sausage pepper and onion pizza. Hardly any sausage and so much liquid cooked out of the veggies it was an undercooked slimy mess of dough. Went back again today for a salad with grilled chicken. Old lettuce cut so tiny I couldn't stab it with the fork and again, a few pieces of dry chicken. Plus they charged me $11.00! Unfortunately I'm going to have to downgrade this one for 2 reasons. The first is that after the first couple of stellar experiences, we got a series of burnt pizzas; not "deeply brown" mind you, burnt. The second is the price. $20 is pretty expensive for a pizza...even a good one. This is especially true if you get delivery because they nail you with a delivery fee. The last time we ordered (months ago at this point), it was over $40 for 1 pizza and a sub including all the taxes, tip and fees. Wow. Lesson learned- call ahead. We didn't think to and had quite a wait. Went on a Friday night and got a steak bomb and a surfer's pizza. They only have 18 inch pizzas and 12 inch gluten free. Lots of different styles. They have a large assortment of subs and steak bombs. There's some seating with booths but not a huge amount and it's not a big space. The steak bomb was just okay. The pizza wasn't that great. Half of it was extremely burnt. It definitely was not worth $28 (yes, you read that right). I'd go again if they had cheaper/smaller pizzas available but wouldn't spend the time nor money to go for the food we came away with again. read more

Overpriced pizza. We ordered margherita which only comes as 18" not smaller as we would have preferred. I asked if we could do half the pizza with different toppings. No. So with tap water our pizza was about 24 bucks with tax. Sauce reminds me of the flavors of chef boyardee spaghettios . Cheese seems to be similar texture and flavor of Kraft parmesan in the green can. Not unpleasant flavors but not what I expected considering the big signs posted on front stating they were voted best pizza in area for 2017. read more

Other than that, he was 20 mins late with my pizza and it was seriously burnt, with the sides folded from the delivery box being thrown around. Very sloppy work $18+ for a large pizza, not worth it! Everything I've had from here has been great! I've only had pizza but it's been very, very good--and in a town with a million places where you can get pizza, you know it has to be good for me to drive so far out of my way! The menu is on the website, ordering by phone is easy; it was ready when I got there and still warm when I got it home. This time I had the ham con spinachi, with ricotta cheese and mushrooms . Very delish and it was HUGE as well. It's probably a good thing that I don't drive by this place in my commute to work, or I'd just eat there all the time. I have only had a slice of pizza, which was pretty good. There are so many different styles of pizza you really gotta go to the right place FOR YOU or for what youre in the mood for. They have very, very thin crust, which i really crave sometimes. The sauce is the more tomato-y, acidic kind with the chunks of tomato...also a type of sauce that im in the mood for sometimes, so if you like those two combos in pizza then definitely try them out, but beware, EVERYTHING on the menu is over priced, especially their pizza, which is why ive only ever gotten a slice! I hear they have a 10$ lobster role special during the week, so that might be worth a shot! Ive gotten a couple subs from them and after my last visit, i wont be returning. All subs are the same price, and come with chips. Although over priced, its on the way to my grandfathers house (where i frequently visit) so I'd stop in sometimes. The last time I went in I got a cheeseburger sub, for 10$ I figured it would be pretty loaded (as the last sub I got, a hot veggie, was sufficiently filled) but it came with one patty, cut in half and clearly sprawled across the roll trying to spread it out as much as possible. It literally was not even enough to fill the role. I asked for ketchup on it and was given packets, which is totally fine, but for some reason i dont understand the woman literally smushed a piece of foil over the sub and then put the packets of ketchup on top of it, so when i removed the foil, every bit of cheese came off of the burger. Ive never encountered friendly staff there.. its really just not worth it, id rather bring my money else wear. But! You should totally go next door to long beach dairy maid and get ice cream, they are THE BEST. read more

I've often driven by this quintessential beachside ice cream/sandwich joint while passing Good Harbor Beach. A few years back, I went for ice cream. What I didn't know until this past week was that these guys bake a phenomenal pizza... and they deliver to Rockport and Gloucester. The pizza is New York style (it's OK, you Sawx fans can enjoy it too!) with thin, slightly charred crust. I ordered the Classico, which comes with tomato sauce, cheese artichokes, pepperoni, mushrooms, and little strips of fresh basil on top. They charge a small delivery fee and the price is pretty steep ($20), but the pies are very big and could easily feed a family of four. Easily the best pizza I've had in the area. A final note: the lobster rolls are sub-standard (not terrible, just not great - lots of mayonnaise, a small amount of lobster, butter-fried rolls.) Stick with the pizza and you won't be disappointed. read more

Surfside subs is a quick close walk from Long Beach in Glouster,MA. They have huge slices of pizza and even bigger boxes. The pizza sauce and slices are to die for. Homemade with chunks of tomatoes an absolute treat after a long day at the beach. We have also tried a few subs from this spot and left craving them. The cheese steak is on homemade bread with tender meat and tons of melted cheese comes with a side of pickles and chips. I would 100% recommend surfside. The inside is small with only 6 or so small booths and a few picnic table outside which are nice when it's not sweltering hot. Sausage sub I have also had and it was pretty good. This place has top notch ingredients, cranks the food out pretty good and I would highly recommend to anyone in the area neighborhood. Save room for ice cream shop located next door been once ice cream was good but melted fast due to hot weather. Eat quick! read more

Very hard to understand the 1 star reviews. I grew up just outside of NYC, and it is rare to find really good, NY style pizza in MA. Surfside's pizza is some of the best around -- incredible crust and delicious in every way. The Ham with Spinach is one of our favorites, but the Surfside 6 (with clams) is also fantastic. Yes, there is sometimes a wait, but it's worth waiting a bit for pizza that's this good. read more

Surfside subs Had the worst experience here last Sunday night. We ordered nearly $100.00 worth of food and when we received our food, the 3 calzones where burnt. So much so we had to pick out the ingredients from the inside. I repeatedly called the shop to complain and they brushed me off!!!!! Customer service in this establishment is lacking!!!!!!
