The restaurant is small, with limited seating, but brightly decorated and immersive on the surf decor. I ordered the fish n chips, and they let me know it would be about 12 minutes, because they make everything fresh. No problema, dude. Beach Boys, surf music and other mellow tunes play overhead while you wait. It wasn't long at all, and I was presented with three (3!!!) crisply battered fish filets on a mound of seasoned shoestring fries. It was hot (prepared to order, remember), and delicious. The fries were awesome as well. I thought it was a little pricey, but the portions were large and I had plenty to take away. This little, unassuming restaurant should not be missed! Surf's Up in Mt. Prospect is conveniently located right next to the AMC Theater in Randhurst and this is the perfect place to grab a bite before the movies! This is a cute little restaurant with a few tables, window seats and seating along the wall. With the weather being nice there are tables outside too. Hubby and I wanted some seafood and we passed by Surf's Up a few times so it's long overdue for us to stop and try the food today. The owner, Lisa, was working behind the counter. She is so sweet and certainly very proud of her restaurant! We asked her for recommendations and she was happy to share some of the top preferred items of guests. She gave us time to look over the menu. I settled on the fried catfish dinner with a side of grits, greens & a roll. Hubby wanted fish and chips with a roll. Lisa told us that everything is made fresh to order so it would be about 15-20 mins. We weren't in any hurry, but we appreciated the heads up and the fact that it was all freshly made. The food arrived crispy and hot and oh so delicious! My catfish was so flakey. The grits and greens were the perfect sides to go with it. Hubs really enjoyed his fish and chips. The fries were so good, we couldn't stop eating them. Lisa also sold us on the fresh bread pudding, but we so full so we had to take it go. Just finished it tonight and it was even more delicious than she described! We will certainly be returning to try the shrimp po' boy and other items on her menu! Plus more bread pudding. I came here with my girlfriend for a quick lunch. I got the grilled shrimp po boy and she got the fish and chips. The food came out a bit slow but was incredibly fresh and the server was very nice and attentive. The shrimp was juicy and the poboy was perfectly seasoned. The fish was also crisp and light. The only downside was the fries weren't crispy. Overall, the seafood was quite good and for a pretty reasonable price. The decor was interesting, very colorful. It's just a small shop, but the weather was so pleasant we sat outside and really enjoyed our dining. The entrees are casually served in plastic baskets or trays. All four of us were very pleased with our all-seafood dishes. It takes 15-20 minutes for the kitchen crew to prepare the meals, so expect to wait. Everything was fresh and delicious. My friend and I both ordered po' boy sandwiches -- she had fried shrimp and I had grilled tilapia. We were both a little underwhelmed by the sandwiches -- they were fine, just didn't have much flavor. They came with enormous sides of fries that were pretty good, but my favorite part of our meal was the side of hush puppies we shared. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I didn't realize how tiny the place is until I ate in there. There are just two tables, and then some stools around countertops that face the windows. Both tables were occupied, so we sat at the counter. Not my preferred location, but it worked out OK. A big perk is that I'd purchased a $15 for $30 Local Flavor deal, so we saved $15 on our bill. Small, clean, new looking building. The lady at the counter provided friendly southern hospitality. Good selection of menu items, and the prices are good as long it's high quality food. I had a grilled catfish po' boy. The fish was good but the ratio of fish to condiments is way off. It was served on a good toasted brioche bun. came across this place on google maps and decided to check it out! you order at the register and then they bring the food to you. i got the shrimp po boy with fried shrimp (grilled is the other option) and my husband got the fish and chips. i liked my po boy a lot! good amount of shrimp. the fries were also good and not soggy. i sampled my husband's and his was also good. not the best fish and chips i've had but it satisfies the craving! after we were done, we cleaned up and were on our way. the staff also seem very friendly. we'll be back for the next time we want seafood! read more

5 stars for Surf's Up - Mount Prospect. This location blows the Lockport location away. The food is excellent and is made to order so it's always fresh, but expect a 10-15 minute wait for your food. I recommend the 2 fish combo - you can either have it grilled or fried, the catfish was my favorite by far. The sides are decent sized portions. It's nice and quiet in the restaurant if you're dining in, the employees are very friendly, I'd recommend stopping in if you're in the mood for some seafood. read more

Huge, juicy portion of fried lobster (you can choose fried or grilled) plus grilled shrimp (same.) Also had a side of perfectly prepared greens (drink the water it's cooked in!!) not overly spiced or salty-just fantastic, and cheesy grits. This was my first grits experience (Chicago born) and after a couple of tastes I was SOLD!! The shoestring fries were so delicious-I'm not a huge fries person but I LOVED these!! My husband had the fried shrimp dinner and a side of hush puppies and he was in heaven!! The gentleman who took our order was positively delightful, the food came up fast, fresh, and hot. I ordered Tha Bomb and chose my lobster tail and shrimp grilled. It came on a garlic brioche bun. The house made Surf Sauce was very tasty. No complaints about the grilled lobster nor the grilled shrimp, they were cooked beautifully. French fries were delicious, nice seasoning that wasn't overly salty. Was as if someone was practicing grit cooking for 25 years prior to making my side. Damn sun. They make some tasty ass food, and the lady that took care of me was so nice, my mood changed. For someone that grew up near the best fried chicken and fish shops the Southside of Chicago has to offer, this place is up there with them. My fellow coworker and I ordered the chicken and catfish combo, and oh man were we blown away!! Everything was cooked to order, it took around 15 minutes for the order to come out. The wings were seasoned to perfection, fried hard and extremely juicy. The 2 catfish fillets had this wonderful cornmeal breading, which was also seasoned extremely well, it felt like a crime to even use the mild sauce on it. And for some dessert, we ordered the bread pudding, a beautiful end to a delicious meal. The store was really bright with nice ocean colors and surfboards everywhere. The perch was perfectly fried and crispy, the red potatoes and corn were tender, the onion rings great!
