Really fantastic Bbq. Can't wait to try more there. We tried the brisket but will be back for ribs and pulled pork

Boss Hogg's is an interesting place. I came here to see a band play, and Boss Hogg's has a real…read morecountry feel to it. Since I was a party of one, I was seated at the back of the restaurant, which made my experience seem like I was watching people watching a band, which was disappointing. I asked if I could sit closer to the band, and was denied "in case a bigger party comes in". I get it, but it was frustrating to see a four-top directly in front of the stage remain empty all night long. While the BBQ is competent, it's nothing special. What is impressive, though, is that unlike literally every other BBQ restaurant I've ever been to, the more meats you get in your sampler, the portion size isn't decreased. The sampler platter gives you a FULL portion of everything offered, making it a veritable bargain, and enough food to feed two abnormally hungry adults. It was also impressive to observer pretty much everybody in attendance greeting everybody else personally. It seemed that everybody there knew everybody else, and that they were all regulars. There is also ample room for dancing, if you're into that sort of thing, as well as a bar area ("the pigpen") in which children ("piglets") are not permitted. The parking lot is a small gravel lot, with unmarked parking spaces, and street parking is limited.

We stopped here on a road trip, just a few minutes off the I-5. The greeting was friendly, the…read moreplace was clean, and the atmosphere was super relaxed. Everything I tried was delicious. My least favorite meat was the brisket, as it had some pretty big chunks of inedible fat. Other than that, I was quite pleased, and very full. There is an additional fee for not paying with cash.

The Depot has always been one of our favorite places for special occasions on the Long Beach…read morePeninsula. We own a house in Long Beach, and during the time we lived there full-time, this was our go-to spot for anniversaries and my husband's birthdays. It exudes that cozy, historic Seaview charm that invites you to relax and linger...warm, intimate, and full of character without being over the top. A true small-town and now not so hidden gem. My husband is a fan of their Old Fashioneds, particularly those with a smoked maple twist, and he often gravitates back to the slow-braised pork. Their current Southern Comfort Pork dish is just his style: slow-braised pork shoulder served over brown sugar yam mash with jalapeño creamed corn, green onion, and maple-bacon salsa. That's comfort food crafted with real culinary skill. As someone who follows a plant-based diet, I truly appreciate how The Depot makes an effort to accommodate vegetarian and vegan diners in a way that feels genuine rather than forced. Last winter, I was thrilled to discover the ginger-coconut soba noodles, they were flavorful, satisfying, and perfectly balanced. Their current mika soba noodles with garlic-ginger coconut cream, vegetables, toasted cashews, and cilantro are exactly the kind of dish I'm thankful to find on a Peninsula menu. I also have fond memories of Burger Wednesdays from our time on the Peninsula. It's incredible how satisfying a customized portobello burger can be when a kitchen understands texture and seasoning especially in a place where plant-based options can still be scarce. The food is fantastic, but the service deserves a special mention. While Peninsula restaurants are known for their good service, The Depot's service is exceptional: polished, friendly, warm, and just the right amount of attentive. Although we now reside in California, we plan to make another reservation when we return to the Long Beach Peninsula in July. I'm already looking forward to their summer menu. Note: I've forgotten to take photos so the ones on this review are from the restaurants social media - definitely a reflection of our last meal at The Depot without the drinks.

So you try to be more efficient and reduce expenses But having less spirt choices at the bar maybe shouldn't be one, or not having any options to tweet a choice, or not fully cooking potatoes in the chowder, or... I don't have the challenge of running a restaurant these days, but I do have choices of where to dine. It's a good restaurant, it was just so much better.

The Sour Cream Standoff!…read more I came with my best friend and from the start the energy felt off. She ordered chili cheese fries and asked for a side of sour cream, something I have witnessed her successfully order there before. The server immediately responded with attitude, saying they do not have sour cream. My friend calmly explained she has gotten it before, however the server remained firm and did not offer to check with the kitchen. When the food arrived, there was no sour cream so I politely asked if she had checked with the kitchen. She replied, "We don't have sour cream lady" and walked away without clarifying whether she had actually asked. When she returned, I said I was not trying to be confrontational, just genuinely curious if she had confirmed with the kitchen. She admitted she had not asked because she "knew they did not have any" At that point I asked if she could please just humor me and double check since it would take a few seconds while picking up food. Five minutes later a woman approached the table in full defensive mode and asked, "Are you the one asking for sour cream?" She identified herself as the owner and was immediately combative. The entire restaurant went quiet. It was wildly uncomfortable. She explained that sometimes they did have it but they do not right now. The issue was never about sour cream. It was about the attitude and unprofessional behavior of staff and owner, as well as escalation over something that could have been resolved in a few seconds. Beyond that, the overall experience did not improve. The restaurant felt unclean, the bathrooms were rough, and the food did not make up for the tension. It is one thing to run out of an item. It is another thing entirely to turn a simple question into a public confrontation. Disappointing across the board.

Food was real good, moist and fresh, great bbq sauce and their sides were perfect. Staff was quick, friendly, funny and clearly enjoys working for the owners. Definitely a little country style, not a bad joint what so ever.
