Ever go into a store where the staff makes you feel like you are lucky you were even allowed to grace their presence? That was my experience. Staff talked with my wife for a couple minutes then switched to helping a male customer who came in and never again gave us the time of day. We sat on the bench waiting to get helped, but left before I lost all self-respect. Their loss since we were in the market for 4 new boots. It was a long week at palisades where we spent days strapping ourselves to wooden sticks and hurling ourselves as fast as we can down the mountain. After a few days I noticed my feet were very large and they felt uncomfortable in my boots. I was born this way but nothing science can't fix. I took my boots to the shop and I took my boots and socks off and stepped on a scale that confirmed my feet were big. They looked at my supergreen insoles and told me they were not science enough for my feet. They recommended another pair that fit my feet better and I've felt amazing since! There's no returns on the science insoles but so far I've had no issues. My feet don't cramp when I ski and I lost 10 pounds and I use sunscreen and everything is great. read more

I had been unhappy with surefoot boots that were made for me at a different location and the Manager in the Palisades store took one look and got me into a much better fit and flex boot. Avoid. Spent half a day trying to get myself in a boot. They even did the entire process. The ending product was so uncomfortable, the tech tried to expand the boot about 5 times and never got it to work. I was told no boot would work with my feet... There are few things more frustrating then spending almost two months groceries on a pair of ski boots and then at the end of the second day your feet are in pure torture feeling like they are folded in half. They felt great at the store, what the hell? My friend recommended Surefoot because among other goodies they have boot stretchers that can be used to widen the inside just a bit. My boots were designed for it so I was all in. I talked with the Cool Guy behind the counter and he was really laid back. He asked how much to stretch them. I wasn't sure, so he told me he'd give a medium stretch and that if it didn't do the trick that they could stretch them again. I dropped them off that night and picked them up the next morning. Another three days of skiing and the fit was greatly improved, not too bad for a couple of Jacksons. However, after a couple of more days, my left foot was still feeling just a skosh pinched so I brought them back (upon their earlier recommendation) and asked to have it stretched again. There was a new guy who seemed to be the Manager for the day as he was professional in appearance and dress and I'm guessing this guy is probably the same one the other reviews complained about. He insisted on the foot measurements. Great, that's a fine idea. I step on the pads and it turns out my left foot is 105 millimeters my right foot about 102 mm, while my boot is sized at 100 mm wide. Funny how my left foot was hurting but my right foot wasn't, I know I'm only an engineer but my thoughts were the stretch widths were about 102 mm and I was still a little pinched in the left boot. "Oh no." said the Manager, "Stretching those boots anymore is a gimmick (even though the boot says 'Custom Shell' on the label and I was told it was meant for it), and you must instead get the (far greater than $100) foot soles that are custom fit to your foot." In my head I'm thinking, "Well, 102 mm-105mm = -3 mm and I'm not sure how a new foot sole is going to help when my foot is being crushed..." and I ask about the insoles that they had on the wall. He said, "We don't have your size..." and I'm thinking, "Okay, he's pulling the 'You need the undercoat' and The Ol' Bait and Switch" in the same breath when all I really wanted was the Cool Guy who listened to me and helped me. I'm sure Manager will have a fine career running a used car lot in the future, but I would think a ski store may understand that people who ski are generally wise to those kinds of tricks. I really like the store, and if they had the right persons staffing it, they would have gotten a lot more of my money. My season is done, and when I come back to Squaw I'll be sure to check the store and come in when they have the Cool Guy behind the counter. But not Manager. read more

I had the best experience at Surefoot today! A couple years ago I was recovering from a terrible leg/ankle injury (a tib/fib) and needed new boots since they had to cut off my old boots when I was injured. My first set of replacements just didn't work, but when I came in today they fit me right away in "Easy Entry" boots. I immediately could feel the difference and they truly were much easy to put on! I really want to commend the staff who helped me, and stood by Surefoot's products. read more

The Surefoot process has again provided me with exceptionally well fitting boots. My first pair were alpine boots, my second are backcountry. I have very difficult feet to fit and have spent untold hours trying different boots and solutions with only marginal results over the years. I love my Surefoot boots. Tim is a master boot fitter. I also strongly recommend getting the Winterheat boot heaters if cold feet is an issue. I have had frostbite and am especially susceptible to the cold. The lliners come with built in heating elements but I had add additional heating elements put in the orthotics too. read more

I've known I needed new boots for a while, so I stopped in here when it was a white out morning at Squaw one day. The experience was a real turn off, and I opted for a traditional bootfitter instead, which was a much, much better experience that highlights what was so bad about Surefoot in contrast. At Surefoot, I walked in and told the clerk that I would not be able to make a purchase that day and that I was mostly interested in learning about the product and bootfitting process. Instead of telling me what the bootfitting process involved, he immediately steered me to their 3D foot scanning equipment and took a scan. I was told that my feet had a 1.5 shoe size difference (news to me!) and that full custom everything would be necessary to address that issue; if I was lucky enough to get last season's model, I could get a full rig for around $1600. At that point, the hard sale really began - he could knock off a few hundred at that moment only, and he wasn't even sure if stock that would fit me would be around for the rest of the day. Contrast that to the traditional bootfitter I eventually chose: in that process, I walked in intending to purchase, but the first 15 minutes of the conversation were all about education about boot fitting tradeoffs and biomechanics. We measured my feet with a Brannock device and found that my feet were actually 0.5 sizes apart and would only require custom insoles to get a balanced pose - stock liners would be just fine. I found two models that were comfortable and was steered toward the cheaper model since they both met my needs equally. And the whole process had zero sales pressure the whole time. All in all, Surefoot's modeling severely mismeasured my feet and the staff used high pressure sales tactics to push me into boots that were far more expensive than I actually needed. I'm giving them 2 stars since it's a convenient location and it would be nice to have someone one the mountain to make adjustments, but I highly recommend working with an experienced bootfitter instead to get a more accurate, lower cost fit in a less stressful environment. read more

Very disrespectful people. I got a new Carv and wanted to have it fitted properly in my boot. Went in and told the guy what I needed. He tells me "I've got a boot on the heater it will be about five more minutes". I say ok. Went to get something to eat and came back. He was working with the others still. I sat there for about forty more minutes while he avoided eye contact and made no acknowledgement I was even there ready to shell out a few hundred bucks. I left in frustration, they ought to know not to disrespect people's time that way at a ski area. They could have said come back later or make an appointment. Very uncool. read more

I had my first day today after buying a pair of boots from surefoot. It was as if I didn't go skiing for the last 6 hours. My feet feel great. For anyone skiing more than a week a year, the best and most worth it piece of equipment is custom boots from Surefoot. The process couldn't be easier. 1-1.5 hours after you walk in, you'll walk out with custom, ski-ready, boots. They electronically measure your pressure points. Make custom orthotics then fit you to a perfect shell. Then they inject memory foam into the boots to give you truly custom boots. I couldn't recommend Surefoot more highly. My only regret is not doing this years ago. They also have some pretty great deals should you need s new pair of liners or boots. I have a wide foot and the best piece of skiing sf ice I have is to get yourself a pair of custom boots from Surefoot. Salespeople know exactly what they are talking about. I brought them in to the Palisades shop and Chris wanted to do everything he could to make it right. He got me completely refitted and in a pair of new boots that feel perfect. We made an appointment because my son's brand new boots (Tecnica Cochise, which they actually carry in this store) were giving him some pain in the ankle area. Upon first walking in and explaining the problem, the guy decided to start the conversation by being really rude and condescending. "Why would you buy this boot for your son? These have a low ceiling and cause pain right where he's having it." I said "There were multiple 5-star reviews from parents online for this boot, and I know this model to be highly respected." He rolled his eyes and basically just decided right then and there to mostly ignore us and start helping other people who came in after us without an appointment. He didn't even want to try to work the boot or figure out how to solve the issue. I've worked with many boot fitters in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming over the years and they're typically the type of people who are never ready to quit until the problem gets solved. This guy's whole attitude was just pretty much "Nothing can be done, sorry about your bad choice in boots." Mind you, he was wearing a Tecnica t-shirt. Our experience was so bad, the other employee (Seth, who was actually nice) apologized and refused to charge us for the "service" we got. After today, I would not recommend this place to anyone experiencing boot issues. Unless you buy it there, be prepared for being treated like an idiot and undeserving of their time. I'm now looking at buying my son a new set boots and I will go see a boot fitter, but I surely won't be buying them there. read more

Bought a new pair of custom heated, foam injected liners, with custom orthotic footbeds inside-and that was AFTER being advised when I visited the store in June to wait for the yearly sale in late October in order to save 20+% on the entire package! OK, this is a ski boot fitter. Talk about first world problems! So, I picked them because I had heard they are the best and are found in many locations where I might need them. Have I mentioned my feet are freaky? I bought the footbed and injection molding. The process was very high tech and fairly amusing. (Seeing tubes going into your boots, then your feet being slightly crushed by high pressure foam is amusing in my world)! The process took around an hour. The lifts were closed at Squaw so, I had some time to kill. Immediately upon skiing, I felt the difference. My body was "encouraged" to be at my best balance point and my boots felt customized. However, there were tight spots, including my left boot felt too short for my long second toe. I brought them in, left them over lunch and returned in 45 minutes. After some time in the "hydrolic vice," they now feel perfect with no tight spots in the toes or elsewhere. So are they pricey? Ya. But you get what you pay for! read more

The boots worked well but the insoles were repeated, dismal failures. The scanning technology does not work well if you need pronation correction in my opinion. Instead of refunding them they just kept making them until I was tired of it and gave up. I ended up throwing them away and using my old insoles from Olympic bootworks. read more

I have a difficult foot when it comes to ski boots and I've been fighting them for years now. With a high instep and arch it's difficult for me to get a performance fit without crushing the instep, or if it's loose there then my toes and lower feet are swimming around too much (and sometimes getting smashed) and in addition to the discomfort the performance drops off considerably. I've tried various options - including intuition liners, but it was always a case of too much volume on top of my foot while good everywhere else. So the idea of having the foam injected around my feet made a lot of sense. Dealt with Josh at the Squaw Valley Surefoot and he provided excellent service. He applied a few methods during the compression / molding process that demonstrated he really knew what he was doing. I was impressed. At the end of the day, the results are what counts, though, and this is the first time I've felt truly dialed in with my ski boots. Consistent pressure surrounding my feet, no pain or hot-spots, and a good amount of room for my toes but my foot feels locked in so no swimming sensations or toe curling. The custom footbeds and liners were definitely on the expensive side, but it was worth every penny. As for the reviews about "condescending service" - be wary, I've been around a lot of ski shops and some people don't like to be told anything other than what they want to hear. read more

Spent a fortune on these boots they consistently tell me to "just come by anytime" and we can "quickly" adjust for maximum comfort. However, they hurt like hell and they have already been adjusted twice. And now trying to go for third time. But every time I go the ordeal takes 1-2 hours. And I want to be skiing. To come here means you are missing out on morning or afternoon skiing. Needs much faster device for quick adjustments. Not worth the money. Way too much hassle for boots that I don't find to be any more comfortable than off the shelf. For twice the price read more

I got my ski boot 1.5 year ago at Surefoot at Squaw. What a waste of money and time! They pushed me to take a size smaller boot than I normally use which made my toes numb while skiing. They had to redo the boots 4 times by all attendants at the store. The boot is a lot heavier than my 10 year old Salomon boot. After several efforts to return the boot and ski them in which ruined my past 3 ski vacations I gave up and went back using my 10 year old Salomon boots. The Surefoot boots hurt my feet even before I buckle up. read more

I am a repeat customer that was treated well a Deer Valley. Yet my second purchase was the exact opposite. I am a 50+year skier and SoCal ski patroller. Every 1 star review is right on. They basically could not get the boots to be pain free and would not honor their warranty, plus super condescending. Even contacting the president, Mr. Robert J. Shay, resulted in double talk and same condescending behavior, must be the corporate culture. Thinking a law suit is only option....maybe a class action? Avoid like the plague. read more

My wife bought me a 500 dollar gift cert. for the place because she got tired of my complaining about the boots I had. I have really big heels and bouts with Gout and also Planter Faciatious. I also have a half size diffrence between my left and right foot. (Anyway I know boot fit) And these guys do it right and I never had any problems at all. I could sleep in my boots. This was one of the worst sales experiences I have every had and would give it a ZERO rating if I could! The local boys (barely 20) who work there, were immature, rude and unbelievably cocky! I was never asked about my ski ability, style of skiing, or years skiing which was depicted on youtube from a Vermont journalist showing Sure Foot's professional protocol and procedure. I walked in for my appointment and from the youtube video, already had an idea of what this custom boot process should be like. However, this Squaw Valley location was anything but, and was certainly void of professionalism. Chris, who worked with me was young, dumb, and very disrespectful. He made me feel inadequate as a skier, even though I've skied for over 50 yrs around the Tahoe basin. He and his buddy were so boastful of being the best on the Mountain, they had no qualms telling me their extreme skiing was worth any injuries (or loss of limbs) they might acquire because the "pussy" was so good (clearly saying this to a female didn't phase them). And that being a "shit-hot" skier was better than being a football player for the amount of girls they could sleep with. Chris proved to be extreme in his ski, words, and actions. He proudly told me he took a dremel to his baby toe so it would fit better in his boot. After my boots were formed, I was shocked to find they fit exactly the same as my old Salomon boots I was trying to replace w/flattened liners. Chris was incensed I was unhappy w/ the new boot, liner and insole and said it was the first pair he had gotten wrong and basically accused me of implying he didn't know was he was doing (no concern for me). I ask him if he skied in SureFoot boots (to see if an advanced skier would ski in this crap) and he replied "no, but I have 4 different boots". These boots were too expensive ($1,500 w/heaters), fit horribly, were an ugly black color, and were dangerously too flexible (lacked proper rigidity for an advanced skier). I ended up at REI with buying new DalBello boots, Atomic skis and Marker bindings for under $1,000 with more expert advice, respect and professionalism. Save yourself a REALLY bad experience and waste of time, don't buy SureFoot boots, liners or insoles... these boots are a joke!!! read more

Went in today for a custom fitting (Technica Mach 1 with custom liner and orthotic). The rep that assisted me was Shawn but everyone in the store was very professional and friendly. The entire process took just over an hour and the end product was a great custom fit. Now we just need to wait for some decent snow so I can really put these boots thru their paces. read more
