I wanted to give 0 star but I can't. I went for pick up and the manager told us to wait outside (not nicely). These two chickens were the only ones that looked normal, so I took a picture of it. They were tough to bite on and tasted like a burn chicken. Also, it was expensive (about $20). The manager was so terrible. She was like I don't care what you need, get out.... She ruined our meal. I don't recommend this place. Food:0/5 service: -100/5 atmosphere: 5/5 read more

I absolutely love sura. They are a little slow for dine in, the the rest of the time they are on point ! The staff is always so friendly. Even with the COVID-19 crisis going on they are still open. I am glad to patronize them they are worth every cent ! Best sushi in PVD hands down. You couldn't pay me to eat anywhere else. The spicy pork bibimbap is to die for. The house salad with the ginger dressing ? Don't get me started ! So good ! read more

Hardly the best in Korean. More like one of the only. Portions so so, Today my Bim bim bap had a meager amount of rice, the gochujang not spicy, basic veggies but unimpressive. Meat topping was good, but no hardly flavorful. Authenticity seems fading, more Americanized as time move on. Like I said ..so so. Even the kimchi was a little skimpy and not impressive. I told the waitress the amount of rice was skimpy, instead of saying "would you like a little more"? Her reply was, that's how we make it. Well, I've eaten here before, this was skimpy and less than usual but she decided to defend this portion. Hardly Korean hospitality as you would expect, is that asking too much? read more

I've been looking for good sushi in Providence, and I've finally found it. I got the Providence roll and the tomilko roll. Both were fresh and delicious. The Providence roll had shrimp tempura and avocado inside and spicy salmon on top with sweet and spicy sauce drizzled over it. The sauce had a nice kick to it. The tomilko roll had spicy tuna and crunch inside with salmon, tuna and avocado on top. There were lots of other good options I'd like to go back and try. The nigiri was nicely portioned, although it didn't come with wasabi already on the rice. Surprisingly, the miso soup and salad that came with the sushi were particularly enjoyable. I think it's the best side salad I've had at a sushi restaurant. They're usually either too plain or dripping with too much dressing. The decor was nice. Great location. Friendly service. I'm looking forward to trying some of their Korean dishes in the future, too. read more

The best things I can say about Sura after my first visit are that the restaurant is clean, the menu is expansive (but here, quantity compromises quality), and the water is cold. The food, on the other hand, lacks flavor. The chicken teriyaki (in addition to looking absolutely NOTHING like the photo on the menu) was bland, except for a light sprinkling of pepper. The teriyaki sauce was watery and unimpressive. The soups were thin & portions across the board were rather small. This isn't Korean/Japanese comfort food as I know it. read more

My husband and I came here to try something different. We absolutely enjoyed our time here! Our server was attentive, answered our questions and were very patient with us as the restaurant was winding down near close. I was happy the server knew every vegan option so I could skip the whole google every ingredient routine I usually have to do. The interior is simply beautiful. Food 10/10. Definitely will be returning! read more

Stopped here for lunch for the first time. Was nice. Service was good, but a little slow right at time of opening. Once things picked up another server arrived and things moved quicker. The food was very good. I had the BBQ Spicy Pork Box, with the vegetable steamed dupplings (small) as an apetizer. Didn't really need an appetizer as the Box meal was plentiful for one. But I really wanted to try the dumplings. Glad I did because I enjoyed them. read more

The Worst Bubble Tea Ever! I was hoping to compare this restaurant's bubble tea with other teas in Providence, but I quickly realized that there was no comparison. First of all, it took the guy ten minutes to make the tea - giving me the impression that this tea was at least going to be decent. It took me one sip to realize that this restaurant was not even in the bubble tea league. They gave me a green liquid that tasted like bubble gum in water. I tried to return it for something else but the owner or head chef was offended - so I left them my $6 as a gift. Do not be deceived by the ambience, the tea is . Thayer Street has a few tea spots that are in a league of their own. As an emerging food critique, I don't think I will order food from here either because good restaurants always have good food - even if it's a simple bubble tea drink. read more

Sura is a truly authentic food experience. The Korean tastes are totally present and the portion sizes are good. I had the ramen and it was delicious. I actually had the Kimchee Ramen and just like the waitress said it has a pice but not overly spicy. So overall the food was great however the service was extremely slow. It seemed like there was one waitress doing everything with 2 bus people only doing what she asked. But if your not in a rush this place is a good place to dine. read more

Love this restaurant, while at work in the downtown area this is a great place to stop by and get your lunch. If you are dining in, the staff knows most of the regulars and do their best to serve your order as quickly as possible. They get busy so if you are concern about the time, I would recommend ordering ahead and getting your lunch to go. During Covid-19 times we often call in our dinner orders and they always have our orders correct, nicely packed and have added miso soups and salads to our meals free of charge. It's a nice gesture that they do this. Sura is one of my family favorite restaurant. Thank you and your staff everything that you do. We really appreciate your hard work and excellent service. read more

Super cute place. Our waitress was so sweet! However, the food fell short. I really wanted to love the food but there just wasn't enough seasoning in everything. Sushi wasn't fresh enough for my liking. Wasabi was lacking the burn. I might be back for the Korean food instead of the sushi. read more

This is my second time trying this place. The first time I went I just got cali rolls. My friend got ramen but was disappointed. I tried it again today and got Cali rolls and the house salad. The Cali rolls were okay but the salad was horrible. It wasn't fresh, had all iceberg lettuce and was disgusting. They should have took it off the bill but of course did not. Service wasn't the best either, I won't be back! read more

They had a menu with outdated price off of which I ordered. When I asked why I was charged more than I expected, lady proceeded to show me another menu that had a higher price for all items and had a manually written "+2" symbol next to some proteins. I got tofu for bibimbap, and even though the updated menu did not have the "+2" symbol next to it, she argued that it does not matter. Such a strange thing to not own up to one's own mistake when it was brought to attention multiple times throughout our conversation. read more

I love this place! I usually only get pickup orders from here and am always so happy with the food. I love their combo platters and enjoy the complimentary salad and miso soup-- so delish. I dined in person here the other night and loved the service as well. It was a Saturday night so a bit busy but we didn't have to wait very long for the staff to clear a table for us. The staff seem to get along well with each other which is sweet to see-- seems like a family run place with a health work culture. read more

Came here two weeks ago and the foods was as good as usual. The only thing that I wish it could've change is the portion size on rice that serves with the curry katsu. It's a half full plate of curry that comes it so I would hope it comes with more rice to mix it. read more

Sura has the best sushi chef in Providence! Everything eaten with rice is amazing, though the ramen does sometimes disappoint me.

Consistently good Japanese and Korean. Mostly Korean, however the Bibinba that I had tonight was bit dry. The fried egg that came was over cooked. But other than that, the dumpling and miso soup were where they should be. If you want to have Korean food that Korean students and the ex pats like to eat, then go to Sura. read more

Last year this had great tempura. This year they had none. Had little to choose from so o had a tofu hot pot that was ridiculous. About 2 dollars of tofu and two pieces of onion one piece of zucchini and broth had no flavor. So I added soy sauce to add flavor. 20 dollars for really BAD food. Never again for us. Stopped in for lunch and the dining room was pretty full. It's always easier dining alone to sit at the sushi bar so that's were I was quickly sat. Server was there immediately and I ordered the Sushi & Sashimi combo. Salad and miso soup came complimentary. As busy as it was I assumed it would take some time to get my plate. But just as I finished my soup and salad, my plate was delivered. Fresh, moist, thick, and rice appropriate are the best ways to describe it. Probably a bit much if you're looking for something light for lunch, but I devoured every bit. Service was quick and friendly. I will definitely be back! read more

Food tastes good. For a Korean menu, lacked flavor and authenticity for me though. Also, a bit unorganized as I went to the bathroom and came back to another person sitting at my table. Once it was 15 min late, I called and first they said it was waiting for a pickup, then they said it wasn't finished and they needed another 15 min, then they said, actually needed 20 more minutes. One star for the server, nice guy. Food was so salty to the point like salt was free (not that it's pricy lol). Both dishes I ordered just super salty. We went here on a trip and it was delicious. The food was super flavorful and each entrée came with little sides that were really fun. The sushi was also much bigger than what we usually get at home and tasted really fresh. Everything was served nice and hot, and filled us up for the road trip home. I also forgot my bag and they shipped it back to me free of charge - it was so sweet and she definitely didn't have to do that - amazing customer service and polite staff. read more

I always come to this place and give them another try, hoping that my annoyances were just circumstantial. Service is always fine, seating and ambiance are nice. The seafood pancakes are delicious, but the miso soup and salad are just ok. The appetizers and finger foods were my favorite parts. I've heard from friends is where you should come if you want authentic Korean and Japanese food- the best in providence! But in my experience, there are others that are better. There is nothing I hate more than when you have sushi, and it comes out on a warm plate. Like the place just came out of the dishwasher and is still hot to the touch. This is a reoccurring thing at this restaurant in my experience and that's why it's 3 and not 4 stars. Service is just ok- had to remind our server twice about our waters. read more

3 hours agoNEW They were racist towards me. I went with my two friends they are both white and Spanish so they pass as .. well you know. They basically singled me out when I talked to them they ignored me and waited for my other friends to say something to them, they took both of their orders and never took mine or asked me if I wanted anything just took their orders and left both with the older lady and the younger guy. We all ordered soup the guy set up both of their utensils except for mine. I had to have my friend order for me because they were ignoring me and I didn't want them to do anything to my food I shouldn't have ordered anything at all honestly I ordered spicy kimchi soup it wasn't spicy and it smelled and tasted like a wet far. The spring rolls were really good but I will never order from here again being singled out because your a different color from your friends isn't my cup of tea and it was so bad they noticed too and I cried in anger but held my composure. read more

Negatives: The Sever - The seemingly inexperienced server, who lacked product knowledge, did not know what tobiko was, and seemed disinterested in serving our table. My friend was allergic to certain vegetables and asked the server what was in their vegetable side. The server only said broccoli onions and carrots, but failed to list mushrooms, bell pepper, and baby corn (mushrooms being the primary issue for my friend). The sushi chefs - The sushi chefs wouldn't torch the sashimi (apparently they don't offer that here), and they would not serve a spicy shrimp roll because they didn't want to prep (cut up) the shrimp. The food - The spicy lobster roll was mushy and lacking in flavor. The menu items were overpriced, especially the beef Galbi BBQ plate (BBQ short ribs), which was mostly bones and fat, at an unbelievably high price of $30.95. The flavor was very average. Definitely NEVER order this. The check - After sharing that the spicy lobster roll was terrible, they took the plate with the uneaten food (we only ate one bite) Never did they apologize for the poor quality or ask if we wanted something else. When we received the check at the end of the meal, we found that they still ended up charging us for the roll. We had to insist that the server actually speak with the manager about the quality of the food (which the person had not done yet). The manager did finally remove the cost of the roll from the check. Positives: The complimentary appetizers were flavorful (miso soup, salad with ginger/Asian (the server actually said "oriental") dressing, pickled radishes, fish cake strips, and kimchi). The physical atmosphere was nice. The spicy crab roll and the crazy dragon roll were both great (but be warned, the spicy tuna gives it a pretty good kick). read more

Sura - "Love Boat" combo with sashimi, nigiri, and special roll (the Mickey). - Barbeque Near Me - Providence, Rhode Island

Sura has been a great addition to downtown. At lunch and dinner time this place is crowded. It has a huge following from the RISD population. Sura has great Lunch specials that incluse bento boxes, Bibimbap, and sushi combos. The wait staff tries their hardest to keep up with the lunch rush but always seems to get overwhelmed. The food however is great. I enjoy the Bibimbap, it's a "Oven Hot" stone bowl of white rice topped with sautéed and seasoned vegetables, fried egg and sliced meat. The ingredients are stirred together thoroughly just before eating and the dish is always accompanied by a chili pepper sauce. The rice gets toasty while in contact with the hot stone bowl and add another level of flavor and texture to the dish. Give it a try the next time you visit Sura! The Bento box lunches are another great offering. They are the japanese "Combo Meal", a little taste of sushi, salad, miso soup, appetizer and entree served in a traditional dish that has separate compartments for each item. Don't forget the Sushi! Fresh, Fast, and Tasty. I eat here often and the master sushi chef tends to send free sushi treats my way as soon as I sit down and order. Overall a great place to eat with friends but if your looking to entertain clients the space is tight and you are too close to the table next to you to conduct a lunch meeting. read more
