Disappointing class at Sur la Table Boulder I took the British Baking class. I was SO excited for this class. I arrived early and was greeted by the guy working in the store. He was very hospitable so I wish I got his name. I went into the class. Of the three people doing the class, zero of them were friendly. At one point one of them came to our table - where three people were - and asked two people if they wanted a beverage. Um, hello, three people here. I could tolerate that if everything else had been a positive experience. The chef had no passion whatsoever for British baking. At one point she said " I don't even know if Rosewater Drops are a real thing". Uh, yes, they are. Her instructions were always about two minutes too late. We over beat our batter at one point because she gave us no direction until it was too late. Our Lemon Curd Sponge Cake with Pistachios looks NOTHING like the photo. Ours was thin and yellow with a teensy layer of lemon curd and then powdered sugar on top. She made one batch of lemon curd for the entire class to share which was not enough. Actually, I think she said it was half a batch. At the end of the class she gave us the high altitude adjustments. I just thought it was weird that our handout didn't already have that incorporated into it. I was so excited to take this class and I had two other classes I planned to sign up for that day but this class was such a disappointment that I didn't. She literally had no passion for British baking or for teaching the class. I did enjoy shopping in the store and took full advantage of the class discount to buy some goodies. The people in the store were very helpful, totally unlike the ones leading the class. Even though it is further away I will go to the Cherry Creek store - where I have enjoyed classes - before I return to the Boulder store and risk taking such a lame class. Such a shame. I was looking silpats and found them along with some great service. I think Matt and Cynthia were the names of the people there. They were friendly and helpful. Matt had a lot of chef experience and knew his way around the knives which I appreciate. I will be back regularly! read more

We hosted a bachelorette party cooking class here and our head chef was Skyler. The event was absolutely perfect and she was a joy to work with. Everything was well organized throughout the whole evening and a beautiful beverage station was set up before I arrived. Of course our main priority was mingling and having fun and the cooking was secondary to us, but the food was excellent too. Skyler was very knowledgeable and included plenty of helpful tips. I highly recommend private events here and would definitely do it again! read more

Not impressed on any level with the cooking classes at 29th Street Boulder, complete waste of time and money. The teacher was not friendly - we were not greeted when we entered (by either the instructor or the helper) - there were no aprons we could use, we were offered coffee or tea but not water (it was only offered at the beginning of class not at dinner - we were not told where the bathroom was located... nothing to orient us in any way). The helper told me to stop reading the instructions 2-3 times as I opted to look over the recipe instead of not being able to see the teacher in the crowded space (and her manner of teaching was such that I became bored and found that the info was more helpful in the instructions) - I didn't feel this was appropriate given that I pain good money to be there and if I wanted to read the recipe then let me read the recipe! The food was great however, we only cooked half of the food - we were told to go out shopping with a whopping 10% discount that could only be used during our 15 minutes of shopping - seriously - during a 2 hour class - felt like the whole point of being there from their perspective was for us to buy something instead of cook or learn. While we were shopping the instructor put everything in the oven and cooked the full dessert. Don't waste your time for a 10% discount... you won't learn a thing - the meal was fine but for $70/person you'd be better off eating out, enjoying your meal with a nice bottle of wine. Go to Escoffier where you will learn something and actually enjoy the process (and even take leftovers home!!!) read more

We went to a cooking class which was a real disappointment. We wished we would've gone out to a nice restaurant for the $200 a couple we spent. The appetizer was done and ready to eat when we started. Only by asking questions did you find out how it was made. Most if not all the ingredients for the main entree were already prepared. Some of the food was prepared by Whole Foods. Not what I expected at a cooking class. Then for dessert, we got sorbet and a cookie that was most likely made by Peppinridge Farms. And then to top it off, we stood the entire time, even while we ate. Don't waste your money or time. read more

Went here to return a coffee machine that routinely left large coffee grounds in my coffee. The model was Capresso personal coffee maker. This problem was so bad that I had to filter my coffee, separately as another step, once it had been made. Obvious this became quite a hassle especially on busy mornings. When I brought the coffee maker back to the store I received a bunch of attitude from the clerk - I definitely will not shop here anymore since customer satisfaction is apparently not a priority. read more

Skylar, the previous resident staff was great. This store is terribly run, employees are not well trained or professional (and are often difficult to find.) Amber, the new "resident chef" is immature and unprofessional, would not recommend taking classes there. read more

I took a class from the new Resident Chef, Clint Loftin last week on French Cooking. He was fun, professional and energetic. He knew a ton about the products and even helped me pick out a few knives that fit my needs. Clint was a FANTASTIC chef! I learned so much (and we ate yummy food!) and will definitely be signing up for more classes at Sur La Table. #couldntbehappier BTW... there are GREAT discounts on store items when you take classes! read more

I signed up for the French Macaron baking class. The entire time the instructor pronounced macaron, "macaroon". When one of the students asked what's the difference between the ones in the can and the macaroons, the instructor said those have coconuts in them and are referred to as American macaroons. The instructor touted herself as a French trained pastry chef who worked with celebrity chefs. Luckily there were a couple of people absent at today's class, otherwise it would be groups of three per station. I can't see three people working together on this and space. The kicker is after we've made all of our macarons and are trying to pack up and leave since there is a class right afterwards, one of the assistants walks by and just grabs one of our macarons without even asking. read more

We have, for many years, been buying all sorts of kitchen ware, appliances and great stuff from Sur La Table. I have always decided to buy here rather than on line because the service has been wonderful. But...nothing stays the same. Last month they recommended a snazzy egg poacher, so I brought it home. It was a set of two metal cups displayed in a cardboard panel. Due to the display packaging, one had to cut the cups free from the cardboard. Well, they didn't work so I brought them back to the store. They understood that it didn't work for me but they refused to refund the money (less than $10) because the display cardboard wasn't returned as well. I explained that one had to destroy the cardboard to free the items for use, and that the cardboard pieces had long since been handed over to eco-cycle. Well, too bad. No cardboard in pristine shape, no return credit. I slowly explained to the clerk that one had to cut the cardboard to allow one to immerse the cup into hot water. Still no luck. I was stunned, this clerk was telling a customer who has spent thousands of dollars in the store that they were unwilling to make good on a ten dollar gadget that didn't work. I just can't go back.
