I was looking for a place to have my car smog tested. I found Surpreme Auto on Yelp and sent a request for a quote. Brian, the manager replied back to me in less than 20 minutes with a quote. Unfortunately I was unable to use them because I had to get it done ASAP and they were closed for the holidays. His quote was competitive and I would have used him if I hadn't procrastinated! I called this establishment to schedule an appointment for a smog check. I was told no appointment was necessary. I asked for a price for 'a 99 Toyota Camry. He said I'll give you a good price, $47.25 including certificate. I agree and arrived 30 minutes later. I explained to the man that I spoke to him 30 minutes ago and was quoted $47.25. He says he has to ask his manager. He returns and tells me the best he can do is $60. Nothing irritates me like bait and switch. I left upset and disappointed. Why doesn't the State of California/DMV set standard pricing since we're mandated to deal with these businesses? I plan to contact the Department of Consumer Affairs and BBB. read more

I was the first customer on a Saturday morning without an appointment and I was in and out of there in 12 minutes! I mentioned I found them on Yelp, so I ended up paying only $40 (I have a Toyota Corolla)! And they sent my info to DMV electronically so they'd know my car passed the smog test right away. Quick smog service, fair and reasonable price, but the reason this business deserves 5 stars is because the operator/owner is knowledgeable. I've been coming here for years with the 5 cars I own and my dad's car. One day I brought in my Tacoma for smog. It didn't pass, it didn't fail. I was told it wasn't ready. It seems that when the truck was serviced a long while ago, the battery was disconnected and since then I hadn't completed a "run cycle". It seems that the car needs to have been driven under specific conditions for it to have the proper information for the smog test. Each model car has a different cycle. He printed out the requirements for the drive cycle for me and advised me how to do it. It was real weird. I had to drive 15 minutes at 40 miles/hr without stopping nor varying my speed by more than 5 mph. I could see how i could never fulfill that requirement by normal driving. So I drove my car with the flashers on from oakland to fremont at 40 mph at 10:30 at night. Stopped and came back the same way just in case. Truck passed. I can't tell you how many people don't know this and are told that their car must be driven another 100 miles or another week or some crap like that. Even auto mechanics don't know this. I had a new catalytic converter installed in a 2002 Prius and told the guy that I was now heading for a smog check at Supreme Auto. He told me that I would have to put a couple hundred miles on it before it would pass. Heck no. I had already talked to the guy at Supreme Auto and had the drive cycle printed out. I had to drive 10 minutes at 25 mph. I drove to Hilltop mall. It has a 2 lane road in each directions with no stop signs circling the mall. So I drove around and around clockwise and never had to stop. Did it twice. Drove to Supreme Auto and passed. I am thankful for this information since I know of many people who wasted a lot of time and money driving and hoping. The guy at Supreme Auto can tell you the drive cycle for your car and save you too. read more
