I have a Nissan Versa 2015. It was such a simple and smooth process - we were in and out in less than 30 mins!!!! The fastest service ever! Then I went back for other services including oil change, checking out the brakes and even for switching my tires. He offers affordable pricing especially since auto shops are so pricey in the the Bay Area. He's definitely a gem in Oakland!! Just today I went because the radio fuse to my car went out and he was able to help me on the stop and we were in and out in less than 20 mins. I came here to get a smog check the other day plus an oil change. I called in advance to make an appointment thinking that it's hard to find a place to do it (In MA, only some stations do inspection services so you have to let them know you're coming.) Only as I was driving to the site did I realize that in CA you can throw a rock and hit a station that does smog checks. Anyway, I show up and they do an oil change while I wait for the mechanic who does the inspections to show up. The manager says he's on his way and will be there in 15 min. Over an hour later, the mechanic never shows. Finally, I had enough and left. The manager was apologetic and seemed like a nice enough guy. Still, I didn't appreciate going through all that effort and wasting an hour of work time just to have the mechanic no-show. read more

So my car was in serious need of a smog check recently and I gotta tell you, I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst. After calling around several Oakland shops looking for a reasonable price (under $40), I ended up finding a place in San Leandro and was about to be on my way. Minutes before getting hold of the San Leandro shop, Quality Auto Service was one of the Oakland shops that I had tried calling, but wasn't able to reach anyone. Apparently they were busy with customers and was unable to answer the phone. Needless to say, I was literally getting ready to hop on the freeway to drive to San Leandro when Gary from Quality Auto calls me back asking what I needed done (since when do service stations ever decide to call anyone back from a missed call from a random number?!). When I told him I needed a smog check and asked him how much it would be for my 2000 Honda Accord, he quoted me $39.99. Next I asked him how long the wait would be for me if I drove over there ASAP and he said about 15-20 min or so. So with that being said, I took a quick detour away from 580 and headed to 1200 E 12th St. Gary was very friendly and seemed like an honest guy which is important to find in the auto repair field. His workers also seemed to be nice guys and sure enough after about 20min of waiting...I passed smog! Phew, what a relief that was to hear!! I'm sure it would've cost me hundreds of dollars to figure out what the issue was and have repaired before trying to pass smog once again. This place is not all rosy even though its name claims "Quality". Given personal experiences and waiting out for more than two months to provide review, this place is run by shenanigan motivated by profits. If you should find this review too late, make sure you thoroughly examine all work done and review all paper work before signing them. Also, using your smart phone, take pictures of everything. Be forewarned, I would not touch this place with a 10-foot pole. Updated: If it were possible, I would give it 0 stars. I just found out they didn't even connect the wires to my tail lights after replacing trunk lid assembly. I had returned more than once to get something done right. I thought the tail light bulb got burnt recently but after another shop's mechanic went about replacing the bulb, he found out the wires were not even reconnected prior to assembly. Obliviously, I was driving without one tail light for more than 3 months. Such poor quality. I will never ever come to this place again. read more

I was sent here by the tow company that damaged my brand-new car while trying to open my it one unfortunate evening. The tow company had purchased the drivers side panel that needed replacing and had arranged QUALITY AUTO to install it. Upon arriving here, I was greeted by a few friendly workers and gave them my information. Thinking it might be 30 to 45 minutes, I left the shop in search of a nearby cafe or someplace to grab some coffee. I had seriously walked less than a block and a half before QUALITY AUTO called me on my cell. They told me that my car was ready!!!!! I got into a pretty bad accident in early November and Gary at Quality Auto service not only made me feel well taken care of but he kept me up to date during the whole process. He was an excellent mechanic and made sure I knew what was happening with my car, and also kept me informed when the insurance company came by. My right headlight, bumper, grille, wheel and hood had to be replaced and repainted. Also some mechanical issues were replaced. Gary and his team we able to match my paint exactly and make my car look as if it has never been in an accident. I am so appreciative of Gary and his team. Do Not Recommend!! The manager was in bad manner. And their quality was not quite good. I took my car to repair because of a minor accident. The pumper was kind of popped out and there were some scratches. They said they will fix it but when I picked up the car I feel like they were doing nothing because the crack was still there. (Although not big as before, of course). After a few days I took my car to the OTHER Auto shop for a check, and they said the places where I had the accident before were kind of messed up, now I can see how QualityAuto did a "good" job. I visited this facility on April 17, I had Engine light " on my Chevy Cruise dashboard, I talked to Lawerence ,the only tech was there that morning about 9:15AM, he was honest enough to tell me to check and identify the problem ,he checked with his little Computer and in 5 minutes he told me that there are 3 codes needs to be fixed but he can not do it and he was not sure if he will fix 100% ,so he charged me 35 dollars initial fee for checking my car and I left ,but I was satisfied that at least he was honest, good experience!! read more

***Not sure why Yelp isn't posting my review, but hopefully they will now. This is a very good shop!!!*** Let me start by saying that the world of mechanics is a murky one. What's "good" at one point, you find later was actually a rip off. I've gone through many mechanics (unfortunately) but I've never had one like Gary. I started coming to see Gary after I realized my Suzuki Sidekick (a car not everyone will work on) needed a new engine. Gary put it in and I have had no problems with it at all, even though it wasn't guaranteed, since I got a used engine. One time I brought it in for a blown water pump and he noticed my timing belt was loose and needed to be replaced. Because of the Suzuki's design, he was able to replace the timing belt without taking the head off and he didn't even charge me any labor. I don't know all that much about cars, but I know the last time I got a timing belt changed, it was about five times what I paid him. I also appreciate that he's willing to work with you in terms of essential and non-essential repairs. He'll tell you what must be replaced and what should be replaced soon. My car started smoking once and it was repaired for what it would cost to change the oil. When has that EVER happened to you? My mother has gone to him and after getting reamed at the dealership and another shop in Berkeley, her Subaru goes exclusively to him. She had an estimate to fix her A/C from the place in Berkeley that I thought was excessively high. I bought the compressor for her and took it to Gary. He did it for a third of the estimated price and it works better now than it ever has. Every friend I recommend to him comes back pleased as well. I simply can't say enough about the amazing job they do there. It's hard to find a good mechanic and I will be taking my car to Gary for a long time to come. read more

I brought my car in to fix a scrape on my rear bumper and Lawrence was very easy to work with. He arranged for a rental car and even offered to drive me to their office. So helpful! They took the time to show me exactly what was wrong with my brakes and how the last shop I had gone to had striped my screws before starting work. No hassling with extra work that needs to be done, and they even changed me exactly what they estimated over the phone and fixed the last shops mistakes! They provided me with the boxes the replacement parts came, which I really like, and were really easy to work with. The whole thing took 3 hours, from when I called to picking up my car. I needed to get a set of used tires put onto my car after a blowout. I called Quality Auto Service because it's less than three blocks from where I live. Gary wasn't sure when he could get a car off the lift. I offered to take the second tire off myself and he told me to go ahead and come in. Gary and his tech knocked out another order to get my tires on in record time. $40 and I was out the door! Not to mention that everyone was super nice and personable. The tire specialist even (properly) put my spare away in the trunk and grabbed an extra valve stem cover for one that was missing!!! I would like to recommend this auto shop to everyone. I heard about this shop from my dad's friend. Since then, when I had some car problems, I would go there to check. It provided excellent services to me. I am a girl who does not know much about cars. Gray is the one who helps me a lot. He does not only tell me the problems, but also gives me some suggestions and explains the process of how he will plan to fix my car. From what he says, I can understand more about cars and I know he is worth to be trusted. Actually, I am living in Pleasant Hill. It takes around 30 mins to this shop. But I am still pleased to bring my car to Gray to take a look at because he really does good job on fixing my car and the price is fair. I just returned from my oil change at this establishment and was very pleased. Gary who appears to be the owner or manager greeted me and gave me an estimate time of completion of 15 minutes. Since i had my dogs with me, I decided to walk around the neighborhood which I really dont recommend since the streets are filthy (dog poop everywhere, trash flying around, and just plain ole smelly etc) but really what do you expect from E12th Street in Oakland right? It took around 20-30 minutes which was fine. I paid their yelp "promo" price of under $30 bucks (you can pull it up by checking in) though i think it seems like it is the standard price. Unfortunately, when Gary came back with my car, he informed me that my driver side window will not roll all the way. I was honest and told him that a few years ago, I had the same issue but I had fixed so wasnt like it as a new issue however i havent had that issue for years. I appreciate that he didnt try to send me home with the unfixed issue that happened when it was in his possession but advised me that he was going to fix it though i believe he was hesitant about it initially. At the end, he asked his employee to fix it so it worked out. Gary seems to be honest guy and that's really all you ask for with a mechanic besides his skills. One of his employees also seemed really nice and made small talk. 4.5 star for the service! (i forgot to ask him what kind of oil so i hope it was nice quality one) read more

I've gone to Lawrence and Gary for years and have had them service various cars including my late model Lexus SUV. I've been impressed with their level of service and price. I've priced them against a lot other shops and they have always been cheaper. In addition, everytime I've dropped my car off, they've returned it washed and vacuumed -- like they do at the Lexus dealership. This is a family owned business that attempts to satisfy the needs of their customers. All you have to do is speak with Gary and Lawrence for just a few minutes and one can tell that they are more than honest and caring. I find this business more than accomodating. They will not try to screw you over by telling you that a person needs things for their vehicle that they do not need. I even thought I needed struts because a mechanical told me I needed them, and they advised me that this was not the case. I also found that this business is more than reasonable when it comes to pricing. A few reasons to use Quality Auto Service: Pricing , way more than reasonable. Stay Away from Quality Auto Service. Good Service, but poor Quality Body Work. I bring my cars here at Quality Auto Service couple times. Very please with the work they done to my car the last i was there. Recently I got into a car accident and decided to bring my car back here at Quality Auto Service. Paid them 2k for body work. When i got my car back 4 days later, not only the body didn't match color, they don't even fix the dent of my driver door, scratches on my driver mirror (seem like they use regular wipe-out to cover the scratches), and the fender. Gary say they will fix it, bring the car back and 3 days later when i pick up my car, even worst, the color didn't match at all. Seem like two different color. I personally recommended Automax not far from Quality Auto Service. Today Quality Auto Service nothing but dishonesty, ripoff, and poor quality work. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.
