I made a call and the same repair that I was quoted as $480 at another local auto repair shop, Sebastian quoted me as about $250 dollars. And then the other repair of the right and left arms for some part of the engine that I was quoted as $1184 by the other Auto shop, Sebastian told me that it's normal wear and doesn't need to be repaired yet. Now it makes sense that the previous repair shop wanted to charge me $50 per bulb to put in when my bulbs went out on my car. So I went and got the bulbs myself at O'Reilly's and put them in myself the first time until I found out O'Reillys offers complementary bulb replacement. Every customer being greeted and acknowledged. They do have a system that works even though they were slightly short staffed. The customer service person that greeted me was 'Barak" was respectful, spoke very well, responsive to my needs, and very clear about recommend per my Chevy, per its mileage and history data. Barak did not push me into purchasing extras but did explain each recommendation thoroughly - specific to my brand. He was very acceptable to my choices as he did not at pressure me. He also noticed my free alignment service had expired but threw in a courtesy wheel alignment since I've a long time customer. (I actually noticed the difference when I drove home!) Kudos to Barak. While my car was serviced was able to comfortably wait inside and drink their free endless coffee and read my book. They also had plenty of current magazines on the tables by the large window. Their price quotes are through the roof, and for some reason their hourly labor rates are way higher than other shops in the area. The first crime was overcharging for off-brand tires I could've bought cheaper at Costco. Like a fool, I went back after the first sting wore off. The second time was $ 1,068.30 for labor and $1,334.38 for parts to replace what they told me was a faulty axle shaft, but after reading these 1-star reviews, I should've gotten a second opinion before taking my car there. This time, I dropped my car off for a faulty alternator; the total cost ballooned to $1,627.99. Removing and replacing the alternator cost $888.88 for labor, and the alternator cost $667.37. The last time I had the alternator replaced at a different local shop, the total cost was 850 dollars. I kept coming back because they seemed knowledgeable and thorough, but I cannot shake the feeling I'm being taken for a ride, or maybe it's the unofficial black people tax. $6,619.43 is all you guys will get out of me. Moving forward, I'm taking my car to my old mechanic, even if it means waiting a bit longer for less costly repairs. At least I don't leave that shop feeling like I've just been financially raped.

The front desk person (there 28 years!) checked my Carfax and caught that the dealership had already done most of the work - something they never told me while quoting $1900. At Engine Works, I got only what I needed for $190, with no pressure, no upselling, and full transparency. He even declined a tip, saying, "I've been here 28 years - I'm not going to change my honest ways now." They gave me a roadmap for future maintenance, the estimate matched the final invoice, and online booking was easy. I dropped off at 10am, and it was done by noon - much faster than expected. The staff was friendly, they welcomed my two trained dogs, and my car is running better than ever. I commuted from Oakland and it was absolutely worth it. I will definitely be back.
