Went in for an oil change here one week prior to a camping trip to ensure my car was ready for the trip. Wow.. what a mistake that was. I should have known when they didn't seem to know what they were doing, and also told us to "just look it up online" when he didn't know how to clear the oil change alert on my dash. Got up into the mountains and got a warning that my engine coolant was low. Checked and the reservoir was completely empty. Of course it's 97 degrees out and I'm just out of cell service range. Fortunately a tow truck happened to stop. I had to pay for tow to go get to an AutoZone for engine coolant. Two days later I notice the underpanel dragging on the road. Fun to get down on the asphalt in 100 degrees to figure out what's wrong. Big O Tires in Jackson figured out that a bolt was missing, and amazingly, fixed it for free after hours. This problem also likely caused by the oil change. I've had my car 5 years and literally never a problem, until two issues immediately after an oil change here. I wasted two days of vacation dealing with this and had to pay for a tow. Don't ever go to Oil Changers! read more

This was my go to spot for oil changes until my recent visit. I was told I had a "major leak" but I've never noticed any oil under my car when I park, nor have I noticed anything out of the ordinary. I opted to take to my mechanic who told me I had no oil leak at all and he did my oil change then and there. If I can give these guys no freakin stars I would! Went and got my oil change and as always they mentioned I needed more services done on the car. I needed up agreeing to have my air filter replaced. Literally 30 mins after leaving THIS location my check engine light came on and my car literally stopped working. Engine would cut completely off leaving me stranded! Come to find out these MFs left the intake pipe loose after changing the engine air filter and it became disconnected thus causing the issues. I really don't think it would have happened to a man ! TLDR: Avoid at all costs. This place used to be okay, but unfortunately has gone way downhill, resulting in a 1k+ repair. The current manager, Seepat, is great, but unfortunately Oil Changers itself doesn't seem to reward competent people who will not cross thread & over-torque the oil plug, leading the dude who checked me out to very casually mention that "I should get a new oil pan before my next oil change" -- which I later looked up & discovered to be a $1200 repair. It's right there on the receipt that the plug on the pan arrived damage that day, and guess who did all previous oil changes - yep, same exact place that was now telling me to get a new oil pan. What corporate offered me was a free "rethread" of the plug - something that several other reputable shops told me would not work, and had great potential to result in a ruined engine. I've been trying to get insurance info from the company &/or the shop, so I can file a claim - garage keeper's policy should be something someone here carries, either at the shop or corporate level. I've been asking for this info from corporate to no avail. Coda: It's "cheap" until it's absolutely not. That said, I looked up my oil changes here over the years & it's notable they used to cost about $30 (2015) and are now pushing $70. Avoid at all costs. read more

Oil Changers in Alameda is fine, just another typical Oil Changers. I would say they are friendly and professional, but when I was presented with the debit card machine and specifically asked if I wanted to tip, it surprised me and was off-putting. Oil changes are expensive enough. And to be asked point blank to tip when I was already spending $130 felt uncomfortable and inappropriate. If every business starts expecting tips, I'll go broke. So I probably won't go back here just so I don't get forced into anther tip discussion. read more

Recently, I had my oil changed at a different place in Alameda. Then I started hearing unusual noises when I started my vehicle in cold weather. I was told that's common in cold weather because the oil is thick and can't circulate quickly at startup. But another mechanic suggested the noises can be caused by an improper oil change. What? I never heard of this. Using the wrong type of oil can cause a noisy engine. He suggested I go get another oil change at a different place, and watch them do it. So I went to Oil Changers on Lincoln Ave. It was busy on a Thursday morning, and it took 45-mins to get serviced. The staff is really professional and all business. They never provide the services you pay for unless you hound them to do so. They'll change your oil, but fail to check the coolant condition, the air filter, the PCV, etc in the normal 32-point inspection that you pay for unless you call them out on it. They'll change don't lubricate the door hinges. They've even skipped cleaning the windows and checking the tire pressures on me before. It's obnoxious to chase them for the services that you paid for. read more

Had cause to go to a mechanic. Apparently one of my issues with the car was I needed an oil change. Problem is I had it done Alameda three weeks ago. I haven't even driven 50 miles. Today my daughter's car was taken to the same mechanic and again, the same story. She had her oil done a month ago. She went to the mechanic for a clanking engine. No oil. I live only a couple of blocks from an Oil Changers in Oakland, but there's always a long waiting line of cars. So I decided to try the one in Alameda. And am I glad I did! For one thing, it was a lot less crowded. But most importantly, I got terrific service. They showed me the dipstick, which revealed that the oil was still clean and the oil was up to the level line, and they told me to come back in six months and they'd check again. But before they let me go, they checked my lights, tire pressure, brakes, transmission - the works, and they charged me nothing. Now, that's great service! Thank you Noah, Charley, and Siphath. I went in to get my oil changed, and as they were servicing my car, the manager and employee got into a physical and racial altercation. They were trying to involve me in their fight. Not only did the police and ambulance have to come. THEN THEY NEGLECTED TO PUT OIL BACK IN MY CAR. They proceed to have me drive off the lot. Which made my engine on my BMW X5 completely useless. Sure Oil Changes offer you other services but I don't feel like someone is used car sales pressuring me. They are always professional and pleasant. I always thought it was nice they showed you the dipstick after filling. My son's recent experience with the ajiffy place show why this is a great idea. The jiffy place didn't show him and forgot to add oil and crushed the filter. An AAA trip to our trusted mechanic Walts in Danville fixed the problem. Usually when I try to hand people money they take it. But not always. Lost track of my due date for an oil change and swung by Oil Changers to get one. They checked out my mileage and said "you still got another 500 or so to go." They then proceeded to top off various fluids and check tire pressures and things like that. I had a warning light I was concerned about, and so they check the code and it turned out to be something minor. And then, when I tried to pay them, they wouldn't take it. Don't that beat all!
