Not to be mistaken Superstar Restaurant for Burma Superstar , when I asked the hubby to take me here, he thought it was Burma Superstar and my cousin's husband as well- when he asked where we stop by for lunch. hehe. There is also another spot, Gateway that has similar food, I think they are related from reading the social media post. Yep. seen all the IG reels on Superstar Restaurant with the Hong Kong style porkchops, garlic rice & longanisa lunch plate for super cheap, of course I had to bookmark to give Superstar a try. We stopped by first time during January 2026 but they were closed for vacation-? then so happy got to try Superstar during this recent March 2026 visit. Superstar Restaurant is located in Excelsior district, street parking only but we had no luck so parked at Safeway, which I also had to make a stop there after visiting SS. Superstar is a hidden gem for sure, serving up affordable Filipino comfort foods with a touch of Chinese influence. This local-owned eatery has been in business since 1990. Don't judge the place by its looks, doesn't look so nice from the shop, they still have the original menu/prices from the business previously up. Just place your order with the friendly staff and your belly will thank you. I really wanted to grab more than 2 plates but didn't want the food to go to waste if we can't finish, ended up with the famous pork chop, bangus, and side of popcorn chicken. For the plate you get a choice of pineapple or tomatoes, fried egg and garlic rice. & the verdict: Wow. that pork chop was super good, juicy, crispy, tender, and super flavorful, the best ever had with garlic rice and how they cook the egg ( Filipino style like how you see on the Instagram reels) The bangus was boneless and has a nice smoke flavor. The popcorn chicken so fun to eat, love the batter on the chicken. So authentic. I wanted to get the breakfast plates ( tocino, longanisa) but def. will make a stop next time we visit. We wanted to stop by the next day before we leave SF but location/time didn't work out, sad face! All in all, such a great value for the money, everyone who makes a stop here will know what I mean, OMG wow., where can you get a full size plate lunch & like Superstar yummy for under $10.00?!, Thank you Superstar for keeping it low in this economy, if I lived here ya know Id be stopping by for my pork chop, longanisa, bangus, garlic rice and everything else fix! & Cash Only, don't forget to byo garlic chili oil sauce/spices!

Stopped by Superstar Restaurant and it definitely hit the spot. For around $10, the Hong Kong-style pork chop over garlic rice is an absolute steal--you really can't go wrong with it. The pork chop is flavorful, nicely cooked, and pairs perfectly with the garlic rice. They offer a wide variety of Filipino dishes, and honestly, any of their plates are solid. Portions are generous, and the food comes out satisfying every time. Only reason it's not a full 5 stars is the spot can feel a bit no-frills since its takeout only but also the parking is very difficult. But if you're coming for good, affordable food, this place delivers. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the Mission area

Had to eat at this classic to see if it is still as good as I remember. I think the last time I ate at this place was over 10 years ago, tasted just as good. The hongkong pork chop n garlic rice is probably ur perfect lunch n only 8 bucks. It is cash only and take out style. Food comes out hot and the simplicity is what makes it so good. My bf loves the Longanisa

Came to the city because my boyfriend and I had errands to take care of in the morning. By lunchtime I was starving, and luckily we were already in the area. He told me, "I know a spot nearby," and it turned out to be right in the neighborhood. I had never been there before, but he immediately said to get the pork chop with garlic rice. I was looking at the menu and saw a few other things I wanted, but he kept saying, "Trust me--get the pork chop." So I did... and wow, he was right. I opened the container and saw a huge piece of hot, crispy pork chop. I moved it to the lid so I could get to my rice and, to my surprise, there was another big piece of pork chop underneath. My jaw dropped. The pork chops were hot, crispy, and super juicy. The garlic rice was perfect too. I do wish the egg was a little runnier, but honestly the pork chop won me over so much that I didn't mind the egg at all. We didn't even wait to drive to our second destination--we just stood outside and used the trunk of my car as a table while we ate. That's how good it was. They used to have a small dining area open, but now it's just a takeout spot. Also, they're cash-only, so make sure you have cash on hand. The price was amazing--only $8 for the pork chop platter, which is such a good deal for the amount of food you get.

Superstar is how you get a meal for a deal. Neighborhood institution, clearly liked by all, concerned service. I came at around 1pm for the porkchops but unfortunately they were out. They were out of a lot of stuff including the tocino, longganisa, etc which was honestly very sad. But if anything that just tells me that they must get real busy! I had tapa and the popcorn chicken, still very good. Cash only and quite cheap. They were very sorry for not having certain items and the people around me were just as disappointed. They were so concerned about their lack of items, I felt bad instead LOL.

BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! An easy go to spot, for a quick take out. It is cash only so make sure you have cash on hand. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the options they have, I personally got the popcorn chicken just to try it out, but as simple as the meal was, every bite was so worth it! Definitely a spot I will be coming back to!! Parking is limited to street parking.

I was in the area for some shopping and it's been a minute since I went to Superstar and was in need of a quick and affordable meal. Prices for the regular plates like the Filipino tapsilog was $6.50 and I added a side of longanisa sausage for $4 for two sausages. The flavor was ok for both. I think the meat was a little dry but some spicy vinegar at home made up for it. Longanisa was ok, didn't have that distinct longanisa flavor but still tasty enough. The plate comes with garlic rice, an egg, and some tomatoes. The garlic on the rice was a little too burnt for my liking, I think plain rice would be my choice here. Overall, if you are looking for a cheap meal that won't break the bank, this is a solid spot to check out.

We lucked out and found a parking space out front. And then there were only a few people in front of us at 12:30pm on a Monday. This was my first time here. It is cash only and there is no dine in. Looks like there is only 3 people working - the cashier and 2 cooks. All meals Are cooked to order which I like. We ordered the fried chicken and chicken wing meal. It came with an overcooked fried egg and some chunked tomato. My wings were fine. They were crispy but small. The egg was overcooked. The tomato was delicious. I loved the garlic rice although the garlic stayed with me the rest of the afternoon. My husband said his chicken fryer leg was dry. Our Total was like $17. What a Deal! I still have a couple wings left and some fried rice. I read on Yelp that the Hong Kong pork chop was good and a very popular item. I'll have to try that next time.

We tried going to Gateway Kitchen first but they were closed then we went down the street to superstar. I found this place on social media. It is definitely a hole in the wall but thats how you know the food is gonna be good. It was our first time here but I would expect nothing less as far as service and quality of good. The lady taking our order has been there for years. It was easy to order and the food only took 15 minutes. For the price being what it was the food honestly was decent. I would definitely come back for cheap eats!

    Abel A.

Good tasting eats for the cheap. You're not eating here for your health. But if you want those silog meals for a value, this is where to go.

Been craving their fried chicken, ordered two while they had it. Gotta get in early or they run out. Chuckling that people are so blind saying they tried to call and the lady is constantly on the phone taking orders, duh, maybe she's busy taking orders on the phone, maybe that's why the phone isn't being picked up, go figure. This takeout restaurant is real real busy as evidenced by the amount of people in the lobby waiting for their orders. This is a real popular place for real decent food and it's standing room only to place in person orders not to mention phone orders if you can get through. By the way, they are also charging an extra $.50 per order when eggs are in their orders, seems fair since the egg shortage and prices have went up for eggs.

Nothing has changed but the prices. Still one of the cheapest in the city. Still hella good and always enough for 2 meals!! To go only and best ti order ahead of you can.

    Longanisa, two baby milk fish
    Pear N.

Went there early in the morning, and they were already starting to get busy. We ordered two lumpia, milkfish plates, added an extra fish, and got longanisa on the side. Everything was inexpensive, but the lumpia were very small, almost tiny, though still fun to snack on. I think the best way to order is to call ahead and make sure to bring cash with you. The service was fine and we didn't have any issues ordering, but the place could definitely use a deep clean.

The lamb skewer was super moist and had a nice flavor. The XO escargot with milkbread had a nice buttery, garlic taste. The milk bread was fluffy and when dipped in the sauce it tasted very rich. We also got the clay pot rice and it reminded me of when I had it in China. The rice was crispy at the bottom and well seasoned. My favorite dish of the night was the squab. It was cooked excellently and the skin was really crispy. The five spice powder on the side really brought out the flavor of the meat. The eggplant was cooked well and portion was good but it didn't stand out as much as the other dishes. Overall, I would visit this place again. It definitely lives up to the hype. The squab and and clay pot rice were the stand outs to me but all the other food was really tasty as well.

One thing that stood out was the restaurant's mandatory 18% gratuity, which is automatically added to every bill. While I understand and respect service charges, I also believe they should come with a reasonable standard of service. During our meal, we politely asked our waitress, Lily, if she could please bring us some soy sauce whenever she had a moment. In response, she audibly sighed, turned her head, and rolled her eyes, which felt unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. Throughout the rest of the meal, whenever we thanked her for bringing our dim sum, she didn't acknowledge us, and simple requests like refilling our water were ignored while she happily chatted with other coworkers and the table immediately next to us (which appeared to be people she knew outside of work). The rest of the staff seemed normal-friendly, which made this interaction stand out even more. Had the gratuity been optional, I would have tipped based on the service we received. Because it was mandatory, paying an 18% service charge for an experience that lacked basic courtesy and attentiveness felt particularly unfair and disappointing. This was my second visit here, but it seems bad service is not uncommon based on other yelp reviews.
