First I would like to say that the turnaround time is very quick and the price was very reasonable. My initial review was just from driving it from the shop back to my house, a 5 min drive. However, after driving it for a while, upon closer inspection, I found some major mistakes on reassembling the car. Some of it is extremely dangerous for a car being driven on the road. The tie rod end was installed upside down, causing the inner tie rod to bend. The sway bar links were not tightened down. The bolts holding the strut weren't tightened, causing horrid noises going over bumps. And most importantly, 3 out of the 4 bolts that hold the brake calipers on were only hand tight. I only noticed that when front right brake caliper LITERALLY FELL OFF. I had to get a tow back and that's when I noticed the calipers were held on by a thread. I will not go back to superior transmissions for any work. read more

Honest & high quality work here, I highly recommend you take your vehicle here if you are having a transmission issue. I took my Jeep Wrangler in thinking that the transmission was going to be busted, fully expecting a complete replacement or significant repairs. I basically said as much, but it turned out to be a very small issue that Gerard fixed in a day for about $100 bucks. The honesty, integrity, and solid work I got from this shop was fantastic. If I could I would give them zero stars. Yeah you may be good with your hands but learn how to be good with your mouth ... customer service is a big thing to EVERY MAJOR COMPANY. I'm pretty sure a lemonade stand can communicate better to make sure to bring enough lemons through out the day lol. What I would say? Superior JOKES LMAOO. How am I gonna receive an attitude & rudeness when I want something done to my car. I called saying I just want my pressure plate replaced only knowing that I have to get the clutch assembly replaced. Believe me I know my own car, I'm also planning on not keeping it so I'm just only driving it for a couple weeks. Basically told me that it'll be pointless & i have to get other stuff done blazeh blazeh & telling me the price which is actually insane like how is it nearly taking 1k in just doing a simple job? Is it because I didn't want to get the other parts replace ? Haha that's definitely a superior joke right there, talking about there's no point in my doing that replacement & it sounded like me doing that will waste the persons time & I QUOTE "taking up my lift space so I might as well charge you more" these reviews old af. 2 years is a long time for someone to act like a dickhead. Superior Transmissions just had a great feel from the first phone call. Barry, owner and primary office personel, is just about as honest and forthright as they come, and definitely won't "provide you" with services you just don't need. This family owned and run service station only repairs or replaces issues directing related to the transmission. They are specialists, and certainly have a repoire with the Silver Spring people, and beyond. They are never hurting for business, but always seem to be able to fit you in. Took my car in to get looked at for what I thought was a hesitance in the acceleration involving the transmission. Barry himself test drove the car to see if he could feel what I was worried about. Turns out that wasn't a problem, he thought, but my engine mounts were basically done for. My engine was leaping out from under my hood, practically. He gave me a reasonable price quote for labor and parts. Within a few days, Barry had ordered the specialty mounts for my mitsubishi lancer 2002 and my car was back in for service. What he had quoted at being about an hour of work ended up taking his crew nearly all day. What did I pay for? An hour of labor. Again, honest to a fault, this man. This is a place that will really take care of your car, and really look out for you - the customer. Highly recommend. Not to mention, I call Barry for a recommendation for all things auto. From where to get an oil change to where he'd send me for a car alarm repair, I figure, if he's that honest, surely he only recommends people who are equally trustworthy. These guys are truly a breath of fresh air! Unfortunately for me, my transmission decided to go out while I was on the road and out of state and not home in Silver Spring. Had it occurred here, these guys would've been my first stop. I had the misfortune of being in a tight spot and having my vehicle towed to the nearest shop when it broke down out of state and ever since then (a little over a month now) I've been going through a horrendous tug-of-war with that out-of-state shop. I took my vehicle to superior transmissions to get a 2nd opinion on the work that they did and the problems the dealership found. They were quick, efficient, sympathetic, extremely helpful and very respectful. No pet names or condescending overtone while explaining things, and they were very patient with me, actively listening to my questions. This place is just all-out great customer service! Sadly, that's a rarity nowadays, especially among auto repair shops (in my experiences anyway). If you have a transmission problem take it to these guys first! read more

My 2002 Lexus was having issues shifting into second gear so I brought it in. Unfortunately they couldn't figure out what the problem was. We decided to just do a transmission fluid change - after a few drives that seems to have worked. The service was a little pricier than I remember it being in the past though that could be purely a result of a bad memory. The shop is a short walk from the metro which is convenient. The shop itself is what you would expect from a repair shop - it's not like walking into the service center at the Lexus dealer. read more

A College Park mechanic told me the noise my car was making was the transmission, so I headed over to Superior because of the Yelp reviews. Now I'm a believer. They had a friendly guy ride along with me right away. Within a few minutes he had ruled out that the noise was a transmission problem. Then he drove around a bit more - which he didn't have to do - to correctly diagnose that it was a wheel bearing. Then he even took some extra time to test the wheel bearing at the shop just to be sure. They could have told me it was a transmission problem and charged me a bunch, but they didn't. I took my car to Superior Transmissions at the suggestion of my regular mechanic. I walked in and Barry took a few minutes to hook my car up to their computer and told me within a few minutes what he thought the problem might be but that he wouldn't be sure until he'd looked more closely. I left the car with him and he called me back a few hours later saying that he'd identified the problem but that I should take it back to the dealer because they should fix it free of charge. This is the most honest, ethical business I have ever seen. The Ford dealer had told me I needed a new transmission for $6,400. I took it to Superior and their tech discovered there was nothing wrong with my transmission and instead needed a rear axle. They found a good used one and installed it for $350 total and the car works perfect. I saved more than $6,000 thanks to Barry. It is so nice to see honest and ethical business in auto repair. I had a great experience with Superior Transmissions. I was having trouble with my car, which the dealership told me would require a whole new transmission (quoted me $4k). After hearing that I was considering just scrapping my car. That is until I talked to Barry. I talked to Barry on the phone and described the problem and what the dealership told me. After that he told me I probably didn't need a whole new transmission like the dealership said. What, you aren't going to suggest the same thing and just ask for less money? Great! Honesty is by far the best quality to have in a mechanic, and I couldn't more thankful for the honesty demonstrated at Superior Transmissions. To make a long story short, I had them take a look at my car and they quoted me a "not to exceed" quote of $2200. Not a cheap fix, but a hell of a lot cheaper than $4k! Honest, competent and friendly. Shops like this are the reason I will always go to a genuine independent guy over a dealership. They are knowledgeable and obviously care about their customers. Despite being constantly busy, they always take the time to discuss the issues, make sure you understand and are comfortable and work out the best way forward with you. Specifics of my experience: My Jeep had a loud clunk and threw some transmission codes. Since it was a new (to me) car, I took it to the dealer. They told me there were a range of issues, and quoted me well over $3,000 to fix it. When I talked to them about it, they described things that didn't quite make sense (I won't say they lied, but..). Since Barry at Superior had previously given me honest and free advice on another issue, I brought the car here. They told me what was, and was not an issue (dealership claimed the low range actuator was inoperable, but Barry was able to work it multiple times) and what did need to be addressed (and how to address it properly). Explained every issue and different options at every step. In the end, the work they did was half the cost of the dealership quote for the same work ($1K vs $2K) and a third to a quarter of what the dealership wanted me to spend. The only compliant I have is that there aren't more shops out there like this, and that they don't do everything on my car. If they did, I would come here for everything. read more

So disgusting and rude!!!! Quoted me a redivision's price and didn't want to explain to me how she came to it. Never asked what was wrong with my car nor offered to do a diagnostic. When I wanted to talk to a mechanic about what the work will do to fix my car, she told the mechanic "Don't talk to her, I told you what the fee was. Pay it or leave" are you serious?! I don't serve my country the get disrespect like this from someone in the service industry. DO NOT GO HERE. There are too many other shops that will give you a pleasant attitude while you get your car fixed. I am shocked and appalled at this women who owns this shop. I will pray for you. I love how honest the lady that runs reception is. She laid out options, painful as they sounded, and we took what was the most likely issue first. My MK5 VW Jetta has shifting hard in low gears that VW told owners they had 7/100k to get the valve body replaced. I bought the car during year 8. Instead of taking me right into a very costly rebuild, we took this route at about half the cost. Every other shop said rebuild, rebuild, rebuild. My Jetta no longer kicks like a mule below third and so far I'm happy. read more

I had my car towed to Superior Transmissions after the transmission broke down. I spoke with two people there I believe were co-owners, a man and a woman named Leona. They were very knowledgeable and polite. I had a rebuilt transmission and a new clutch put in. Since then my 16 year-old Toyota Celica drives like new. I was surprised the cost to do the work was as low as it was. I researched the necessary work. The prices I saw were about 3 times what I paid Superior. I recently brought the car back to have it looked at. Leona was very helpful and polite. On Superior Transmissions' business card it says "An Honest Repair Shop You Can Trust." I completely agree with that and highly recommend them to anyone needing transmission work. I have very high standards. There are few businesses I go out of my way to give an excellent reference for because they deserve it Superior Transmission is one of those. read more

I called this shop and asked if I give you the business of a high dollar repair to rebuild my transmission Leonna told me they would take care of the towing for me- I was told the repair would be $1800-$2000. When my car was finished I was called by Leonna and told me my bill os now $2300 because they did additional work that I did not authorize nor did anyone do the ethical thing to call me to ask of these additional charges are ok with me they just did it. Also after they said they would take care of the towing that I was also billed for that. They're opinion of taking care of the tow is they would call one for you, wow thanks a bunch for making a 10 second phone call for me you saved me so much time and grief by doing that for me. Talked to the owner about all this and got no where she proceeded to tell me pay the entire amount today or I'll start charging you $50 a day until you pay it. In my business I would be out of business in no time talking to my customers like this and surprising them with an amount higher than you were told without your authorization in advance. No thank you for your business or have a nice day basically just pay your bill and get the hell out. Will never return to this place or recommend to anyone for any reason at all.
