Moshe saved our Subaru -- and saved us thousands of dollars. Our 2019 Crosstrek died after rodents chewed the electrical wiring (outdoor parking in DC, go figure). Taking my cars to Moshe always leaves me reassured that whether we're going on a major trip or just our routine outings on the Beltway or in bad weather, our cars -- my family and friends inside them -- are 100% safe. I just had both cars serviced in recent weeks. Of course, our cars are a huge investment and the outstanding care I get from Moshe protects the value of my cars. Yet Moshe's charges for careful and expert service are reasonable. I have confidence both in Moshe's expertise and his honesty. He never tries to upsell and several times discouraged unnecessary or expensive "repairs" that I suggested. This is a two-person operation but getting an appointment is easy. It was my first and my last visit to Moshe's Auto Care. Moshe quoted $160k for my battery and then charged $220. Photos of the receipt are below. When my car was ready, Moshe told me to pick it right away since he "didn't want to wait around for me to pick up my car." I was working from home - this was 1 pm on a weekday. Why the rush? I hurried to pick up my car to be given a receipt with a much higher price than he had quoted. He said to keep my receipt for the warranty." The receipt did not indicate what kind of battery was put in my car or what warranty it had. I asked what the warranty was and Moshe said "18 months." I had to get back to work and there were other customers waiting so I got my keys and left. I regret now not standing up to Moshe. I talked to a friend who just had a new battery put in for $170 total. I also found that batteries generally carry a 2 year warranty. I have had 5 different cars serviced over the years and I have never experienced anything like that. I'll never go back. If you go there, get a written estimate! Since there is no waiting area, have him text or email it to you. I sure hope this saves someone from the experience I had. read more

Finding a great mechanic is probably harder than finding a partner. Anyways. After searching on Yelp for a bit I found moshe's. I have a 2010 Nissan Sentra with literally. 238,000 miles. (Long story) I let him know. I just need it to run so an oil change. I barely drive. And it makes a weird noise. I dropped it off. And brought my dog with me so we can walk home. He was so funny about my dog saying ok get your stuff out and meet me inside. Don't forget your dog. I got a call like an hour later to go over suggestions. Soooooo honest. Very transparent. Spoke to me with so much respect. He reminded me of like. An elder from my community. I picked up my car during my lunch. And it was so fast. Again. I walked my dog and we started chatting about my dog and he was so sweet. I will only be taking my car for any services to moshes Also the weird noise was just some missing clips on my fender so my tire was hitting it. And he was so honest. Incredibly knowledgeable and incredibly honest - a winning combination! I know very little about cars, but on the few occasions where my car has needed only small repairs, Moshe only gave me those small repairs that I needed rather than trying to convince me that I needed more. Once my bill was less than $100, including labor, because I needed only a wheel stud and lug nut. When I've had bigger problems, he's taken care of those too very fairly, and he showed me the parts he removed afterwards and explained everything to me. I think that the following story exemplifies his business practices. Once I needed a PCM replacement - like, the car's computer, basically - which was something Moshe couldn't install for me because I own a domestic car (he specializes in other brands), and the PCM needed to be programmed before it could be installed. Moshe didn't charge me anything for the repairs he attempted before concluding that my PCM was the problem; he didn't charge me for the labor involved in those other repairs, even though I know they took him hours; and he told me that once I found a garage that could do the PCM replacement/installation for me, that I could call and ask him whether the estimated cost was a fair price and whether the amount of labor the other garage said would be required was a fair estimate. And he didn't charge me anything for that. He just goes so above and beyond. Can't recommend him highly enough. read more

I had an issue with my Hyundai Sonata with the turbo acceleration. I ran the car through my OMDB2 diagnostic and found the error code. I contacted Mr. Moshe and he was able to tell me what he thought was the issue and the part I needed to order. Luckily I found the part locally and took it to Mr. Moshe. He was busy but more than willing to take a look at the problem. I left the car and after an hour he called me back with a solution. He was clear in setting the expectations and gave me his opinion on the best approach to fix the problem. He replaced the part in less than 2 minutes, and as of now the car is working as normal. My car was shaking as I drove and I needed a quick repair before a long trip. On the phone Moshe identified what he thought the problem was (which turned out to be an accurate assessment) and he was able to fit me in within a very short time frame even though I was a first time customer. I've been trying to find a trustworthy auto mechanic in Silver Spring for years. I think I've finally found one! Moshe gave me details about my car that other shops have never brought to my attention, but he did not try to get me to repair things that did not need to be repaired. While Meineke tried to quote me over $1K for my right engine mount (and likely some other unnecessary/random repairs), Moshe's quote was well over half of that. I also saved a lot of money on my brakes; he was honest and told me that I only needed brake pads, whereas other shops will immediately mention rotors and calipers, without first doing a proper assessment. I also appreciate how Moshe was flexible and saw me the same day as a walk-in appointment. My car is now running smoothly and my bank account didn't get depleted in the process. I had a road trip to New England coming up so I brought my late 90s Subaru Forester to Moshe's shop for a major tune up and perhaps lots of maintenance. I wasn't sure what needed doing. Moshe drove me to the Metro in my car to see how it ran and we discussed various Subaru issues. This was great, since my office is right near the red line. Moshe mentioned that he bought a Subaru for his daughter and thinks they are great except for one known issue (a gasket problem). Later that day, he inspected the car (himself) and gave me a very specific assessment of what he thought needed to happen, what would be good to do, and what he himself would do if it were his car. This was really helpful. The work was great and the car is running well thanks to Moshe. His quote was quite reasonable, he had it ready when he said he would, he has tremendous expertise, the work was high quality (it seemed to me, though I am no gear-head), and his advice was great. Most importantly to me he communicates clearly and is honest--neither is a given in the auto business. (Note: the work was performed July 2014. Moshe is the absolute best. I have two slightly older cars, both purchased used, that I've taken to Moshe for various issues. Moshe has always diagnosed and fixed the problems correctly and has done so for cheaper than what other mechanics or dealerships have estimated. Moshe is the first mechanic I've ever had who I really trust. As a result I'm happy to pay his slightly higher rates on things like oil changes or standard services because I trust he will only flag issues he thinks are real and then, by fixing them at a reasonable rate, will help me avoid bigger problems down the road. I also appreciate that Moshe doesn't charge exorbitant fees just to take a look at things. For example, he's never charged me to see what the diagnostic code is when my engine light comes on. His first step is always to make the initial assessment, tell me what he thinks the problem is, tell me if he thinks he's the right guy to fix it, and then tell me the cost. He doesn't get you on the hook for some $100 diagnostic fee that he'll "put toward the cost of the repair" and in that way make you feel pressured to go ahead with it. If you live in the area, and have a car problem (especially if you've gotten what seems like a costly estimate from another shop), definitely call Moshe. You won't regret it. read more

I would recommend Moshe's auto care to anyone. He is a very thorough, honest and knowledgeable mechanic. I have never heard him try to sell me something I didn't need. He has done work for me at no charge where the work was insignificant (but he spent almost an hour on it). His website says that he will beat any dealer service estimate by 15%. The last time I went, he wouldn't even charge me for fixing a broken plastic cowling under my car that was making noises as I drove. He's much less expensive than the dealer and when you leave his place you won't be returning a week later because something wasn't tightened right, as happened with me with a dealer and an oil change. I first went to Moshe when the Lexus dealer recommended more than $4000 in repairs. Moshe, who was shocked at the dealer's estimate, checked out the car and made the necessary repairs for 60% less. That was one year ago and the car is fine and I still go back to him today. He is honest and takes the time to talk with you about everything he recommends and then discusses the repairs when you pick up the car. The last time he showed me the air filter, which was disgusting, and he questioned whether the dealer ever changed it, even after 90,000 miles. Car repair can be an intimidating experience but I cannot recommend Moshe more highly. There's no pressure nor condescending attitude. I will now take my other car to Moshe as well. read more

I've been a customer of MAC since it's incarnation many years ago. There is no one I'd trust more. The owner -- yes the OWNER, he actually works on the cars himself! -- has always been upfront with things concerning my vehicles (and there have been quite a few he's serviced), many times forfeiting the opportunity to make money off a repair to save me money. Everyone at MAC has a good, friendly personality and are very welcoming. I've also had fast turnaround times. I'm in Arlington now, so I do see other mechanics for smaller issues (oil changes; bulb replacements) but for major needs, I stick with MAC because I've never had an issue with a repair, never had to come in for a re-do (which I have had to do at other 4- and 5- star Yelp rated places) and I've never felt that I was scammed or cheated as the prices have always been fair and competitive. read more
