I recently received a notice from the DMV that I needed to complete a smog check and was shocked that my Prius needed it! I found this place on Groupon and was thankful that they are conveniently located on Sepulveda. I arrived right after they opened this morning and was told the wait was about 10 minutes. It ended up being a little less than that. The employee there was so friendly and helpful and when it was my turn he quickly moved my car and ran the test. While it was quick, there were still 3 chairs in a small waiting area on the side, so I was able to relax during the process. The Groupon covered the cost of the test and I just paid the $10 for the certificate (thankfully it passed with flying colors). It was such a great deal! He was very courteous in explaining to me the process of how the certificate was sent to the DMV and it would take about 2 weeks for me to receive my registration, as long as I paid the renewal fees. He even gave me the paperwork and highlighted the number to call of there were any issues. I left feeling at ease that this didn't suck up all of my Monday and I felt taken care of. I'm assuming that I was the second car to arrive on site before Superior Smog Test opened at 9:00 am. There was one car here idling in the lot but there are other auto repair businesses here as well. The black gate is still closed so there's a small parking area in front of Chips Peruvian Grill that we're chilling at before they open up the gates. I'm laughing because all three of us are in line to get a smog check, haha! I don't know if it's the owner but he pulled in and opened up the gate at 9 o'clock sharp. The smog tests appear to take a short time to complete. The first customer was out of here under 20 minutes. Then it was my turn... I handed the clipboard to the man and went to fetch my car to pull it half way into the bay. He scanned the barcode on the car for jamb and hooked up the ODBII into the car computer. Then he started the engine and did his inspection of the engine and under the car. So, what exactly is he looking at? I'm not quite sure but maybe components related to the engine emissions such as the O2 sensors, catalytic converters, and pipe connections... It's just my guess as I'm no smog inspector. Dang! My guy finished in about 8 minutes and wraps it up. You'll owe $10 total after passing the smog check inspection for the certificate and electronic processing fees. What you'll receive is a paper copy of your Smog Check Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR). Mr. Farid Zovlon is the inspector that did the visual inspection of 10 checklist items. Two of them were not applicable as my car was not an air injection engine nor a turbo or supercharged engine. The computer will check for a liquid fuel leak. So, the car passed the test and it made it over the Cahuenga pass on the 101 fwy south getting over 60 mpg (guessing it was the traffic and the big coast hypermiling skills, lol). This was my third visit to Superior Smog Test Only Center using a Groupon deal. They're the best deal that I've found so far. read more

Found this little place on Groupon and was able to walk right on a Saturday. Looks like they close around 2 on Saturday and I came in just after 1:30. I felt a little awkward walking in as the guy didn't look very happy to see me but said he would take me anyway. He quickly closed the gate behind me though. What a great deal through Groupon. There are shops charging $45 and up. Plus the additional certificate fee, which is ridiculous, unless you have a classic or very large vehicle. I was a walk in, and my car was serviced immediately. The owner was extremely welcoming and very pleasant. We talked about sports while the technician performed my smog. I'd say I was in and out in 10 mins, give or take. Called me BROKE in less than 5 mins of getting there. What an ignorant nutcase?! Read the whole review to get full picture : I went there first 2 months ago after buying Groupon. He pretended to be nice. The smog test failed but he charged me already plus money paid on Groupon also went to him. Told me I had to get repairs done and get back to get smog cleared. Now I waited some time and shopped around for mechanics because I'm on budget and handling other life situations. Last week I got repairs done and today I went back to retest smog. As soon I walked in he showed me some rude attitude and starting bickering over money I need to pay for retest. I told him he charged me already and I'm fine with paying retest fees. I also shared how some mechanics said smog center shouldn't test if they see engine lights on in dashboard. At this instant, he got visibly hyper, fuming with anger and asking which mechanic said. He shouted "F THEM MF-ers, and F THEIR MOTHERS" and took the phone out to call them in front of me. I was shocked to see this anger-management drop out blow up in my face like a stinky diaper but tried to control him by saying its ok & he shouldn't call others and curse these other guys. Then he stormed off to inside of workshop and talk to his mechanic in their own native language which sounded gibberish but I knew they're bad mouthing me cuz of the sideway glances and fake laughs they were having. I didn't care- maybe thats how they get joy in their life to laugh at customers. I just wanted to get smog cleared and get out of this fool's shop. Now he comes back up as a judgmental douchebag and tells me very harshly "what my problem is?" that "I'm broke and don't have enough money cuz I took time to get repairs done" and I told him that's very negative thing to say to customer. But I told him earlier that yes I am on budget so I had to wait, plus its very old car and no point in dumping lot of money on simple thermostat repair. He used the facts I shared earlier when he was acting friendly to now insult me. What a piece of old trash?! As if that wasn't enough he says "He makes $50k every month in other business and he don't care for smog business at all". That this is his way of helping customer by offering affordable oil change. And here he was trash talking to me- a customer, bickering over less than $30 total. He makes $50K per month but is promoting cheap deals on Groupon to get smog customers but is haggling like a cheapskate over $10. Remember he said he makes $50k a month somewhere else. I say he's BROKE, FINANCIALLY AND MENTALLY! Probably bluffing or he's a cheap miser that he needed to fight for my $10 on top of what I came in already to pay for retest. *LADIES DON'T COME HERE ALONE- PERV* The guy that helped me with my mom's car is a PERV. His name is Joe and is of some sort of Asian decent. I only put that in as a description incase that wasn't his real name. The interaction started fine with him handing me a clip board to fill out some information while he's helping out another male customer. After the guy left he pulls my car in and starts working on it. He walks over to me with his phone in hand quite obviously recording me asking me what my form of payment will be. I handed him a paper with the Groupon information.. there seemed to be an issue so he asked me for a redemption code while recording me again. I call my mom because it was her car and I told her about the issue with payment but that also the guy was recording me. She works around the corner so she drove over and started dealing with the guy... he didn't record her, my mom asked why he was recording me and the guy ignored her. Again there was an issue with the payment so the guy called his boss to see how it could be resolved.. Joe gave my mom his bosses phone number and my mom called him directly, after handling the payment issue my mom asked the boss why his employee was recording me and the boss said he didn't know but would call Joe right now and find out what's going on. Next thing Joe gets a call and goes into the office for a few minutes and closes the door. He came back out messing with a couple of things with the car and then comes to show me his camera roll with nothing there saying he only has pictures of his family, I asked him to show me his recently deleted and it was wiped. I said there was no reason for you to be recording me or bringing your phone up to me as you didn't do that to the last male customer and you're not doing it to my mom. I told him I'd be writing a review on yelp and that's when he said he deleted everything and apologized 3-4 times. But that still doesn't make his behavior ok. My mom later called his boss again and apparently he said that the Joe will be replaced but I just need future customers to know the kind of business that is being ran here. They failed my Highlander for an unnecessary reason and because the owner was on a power trip. After trying to talk about it, the owner lost his composure and started yelling and cursing. The guy at this shop was very nice and helpful! $35 for everything including state fee etc. I found them on Groupon and although I could save $7 from Groupon, I decided to pay that price directly to their shop since Groupon would take a huge percentage from $25 anyway. I do not know what happened to this place but it is a shame to see how horrible and unprofessional it has become. I came in multiple times within a week (and called prior to confirm availability) and both times I was turned away. The first time as soon as I got out of the car the servicer comes out and tells me he is done for the day. When I tell him I called him before and he said he'd take me he said "no im tired and have three cars waiting" Second time, I called again before heading over and the man over the phone was very polite and said to go anytime. I specifically called because I was lwaving work early for this. When I arrive (3 hours before closing) the man says hes done for the day. I couldnt believe it and we went back and forth. He said that the owner was the one who answered and hes the "servicer" so I needed to speak to him to confirm. I am not one to write these long reviews but this is how upset I am. I told him this was unreasonable and not a way to handle customers. He would not guarantee service would be done the next time (depending on how he felt) then he started going off on how he rather not accept Groupons anymore because he rather deal with people paying full price. I was baffled and told him he shouldn't offer it then and he just said its the owner who does it. Came in to get a smog test. Saw on the website that they except walkins and do not except appointments. However, after taking a 30 minute drive out here, I pulled up and found out that he had appointments for the next hour. When I asked if this is some thing, I should just call ahead for he said I don't pick up the phone ever. So I'm not quite sure how to get a smog test done at an effective time.
