The vintage diner feel was cozy, and the Coca-Cola light fixtures were unique. Each table also had its own vintage jukebox. We came on a busy Sunday morning, but got lucky and were sat right away. From the beginning, and throughout our experience, the staff were very friendly. Our sever brought us drinks within minutes, and we were able to put in our orders pretty quick. Like I said, it was a busy Sunday, so it took awhile for us to receive our food. But this gave my wife and I time to talk, and enjoy the ambiance. I ordered the breakfast lasagna (had never seen this before) with white toast and a side of corned beef hash. When the food came out, it was warm and fresh. The breakfast lasagna had a nice flavor from the peppers and onions and meats that were baked inside. The base was made from what seemed like mashed potatoes which threw me off a little, but wasn't bad. The toast had a good toast to it, and was nicely buttered. I am a corned beef hash lover, and Shorty's was pretty good! The flavors meshed well together and the texture was great. My wife ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits which was not great. The sausage gravy was lacking flavor, with the main taste being cream. The sausage within the gravy was cut up sausage links, and for myself and my wife at least, we prefer ground sausage. Lastly, the biscuits were nothing to write home about. They were not bad but they didn't wow. Overall, I gave Shorty's a three because the food didn't wow me. There was not anything wrong with the food we had at all, and we will probably be back in the future to try some of their other food. Otherwise, my wife and I also loved the feel of the diner itself.

The "fresh baked" Mac and cheese suggested by the owner had no flavor. Not even cheese. Just mushy elbow macaroni. But worse, I asked if the battered haddock sandwich was fresh or frozen and the owner - who was sitting in a booth working on a laptop, lied and emphatically said it was. No, it sure wasn't. You know flat haddock strips that are breaded and frozen and sold in bulk? And the restaurant then just heats it up in hot oil? Kinda like a Tops fish fry? That's what it was. Slapped on a slightly toasted hoagie roll with a plastic cup of tartar sauce, no lettuce or tomato. Plus my $3 Diet Coke arrived in a little juice glass, lol. Lots of empty tables but still a 15 min wait, and they didn't seem to have enough staff to keep up with bussing dirty tables. All in all a poor lunch experience for two with bill over $50. Something is really wrong when a restaurant can't keep enough staff to run properly. I miss Koffee Kove.

Here's a review that sounds like you--balanced, appreciative, and observant:…read more Walking into the Crystal Restaurant is like taking a step back in time. Before you even open the door, the vintage neon sign proudly advertising "Air Conditioned for Your Comfort" makes you smile and reminds you of an era when air conditioning was a luxury worth bragging about. Inside, the restaurant has done a wonderful job preserving its history. The original pressed tin ceiling, beautiful woodwork, mosaic tile floor, vintage lighting, and classic booths create an atmosphere that is difficult to find anymore. You can tell this isn't a place trying to look old--it is old, and it has been lovingly maintained. If you appreciate historic architecture, take a few minutes to look around. It's worth it. Service was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. My daughter enjoyed her eggs, sausage, and toast, while I had a bacon, egg, and bacon sandwich on toast with mayonnaise, along with a bowl of oatmeal and a cup of coffee. Everything was fresh and satisfying. My only minor suggestion would be that I would have liked my toast a little more done, especially since my daughter's was toasted just the way I prefer. It certainly wasn't enough to take away from the experience. The Crystal Restaurant has been serving the Watertown community since 1925, and it's easy to understand why it has become such a local landmark. Places with this much history and character are becoming increasingly rare. If you're looking for a good breakfast served in a restaurant with genuine historic charm, the Crystal Restaurant is well worth a visit.

The mashed potatoes and cottage cheese was good but don't feel it should have been a $17 meal. It should have been on the kids menu. Last time my husband ordered fish tacos that come with beans and rice. We used to love this restaurant, but it has been going downhill every time we stop there. Service is quick, but maybe too quick to ask about dessert when you're only halfway through your meal. Ambiance is always good though and staff is very friendly. Sad when it's the only restaurant around but I've had better truck stop diner food. It was a really good restaurant. What happened Jeb's?

Any place with free refills on fountain drinks and homemade onions is always tops in my book, but my wrap was excellent. The dipping sauce was hard to not just dip everything on my plate in, (I did it anyways)! Our server was so nice and made sure we had coffees and waters filled and love the at home vibe of the place. Upon entering we found a really cute place with tables and some bar seating. It has a cute and casual atmosphere with popular songs playing but in blue grass style. We ordered drinks and food and it came out quickly. Our server was attentive and was able to speak to all our menu questions to ensure we got what we needed. I ordered a class of Pinot Grigio and the Martha salad with grilled chicken. It was absolutely delicious, very flavorful and tasty. The cilantro and dates were a nice add on to a salad. The dates were a nice sweet contrast to the salty goat cheese. I was impressed that they had a lot of healthy and gf options that were wonderful and didn't feel like an afterthought on the menu. I am told the blackstrap bbq chicken sandwich was wonderful. The chicken and onion straws were nice and crispy. The bbq sauce wasn't overpowering but added a nice addition to the sandwich. The onion ring on top was a huge bonus and the fries were perfection, possibly the star of the show. I'd highly recommend if you are in the area. We hope to be able to come back another time soon.
