I found nothing professional from this company. I called and set an appointment nearly two weeks ago and no one showed up on the day, no phone call or follow up. I called the owner and blame was placed on staff. I agreed to move forward with a new appointment even though the owner was still vague about the time that i could expect someone however today again NO ONE showed up, NO call and NO reply to my call for a status. In the end I am going to another company. I may have dodged a bullet if their work is as bad as their professionalism. read more

I needed someone to repair my mom's chimney at her home in Seattle, but didn't know where to start looking. I was recommended to Superior Chimney Service by a family friend and am glad I contacted them. As soon as I spoke to a representative at Superior Chimney and told them what I thought was the problem they gave me a simple estimate over the phone, which sounded reasonable (I was afraid maybe they weren't understanding because I thought it would be much higher). The next day when Tony from Superior Chimney came to the house he was really friendly and knowledgeable and after going up to the roof to look at my chimney he confirmed that the issue wasn't bigger than I thought and gave me a formal estimate. They started working the following Monday and finished up within a few days and the fireplace worked perfectly again. I highly recommend their service - not only because it was professional and affordable, but because they were so friendly, honest and knowledgeable. I have heard some horror stories of bad contractors, but I understand they have been in business for over 50 years, so they truly know what they're doing! read more

They were fast, professional and affordable. Mike came out to the house for a free assessment and they were able to fit me into their schedule quickly. They did exactly what I asked for at the rate they quoted me. All the guys on the crew were friendly and competent. They finished all the work in less than a day and left my home as clean as they found it. I couldn't ask for a better or easier (or cheaper) chimney removal experience. Thanks a million! I am so irritated with this company that I decided to start a yelp account just so I could write this review...If you want someone professional go elsewhere! I am an assistant for a family in need of chimney work. They have an upstairs and downstairs chimney, however the downstairs chimney is not drawing smoke properly and the owner would like to have a gas insert put in downstairs. After some research, I called Mike with Superior Chimney and briefly discussed the situation with him. I then set up an appointment for him to come to my employers house when I could be there, to look at the chimney. Today, Thursday morning, he was supposed to show up at 9am and he was a no show. (Now mind you I had to drive from my house in Everett to Seattle in rush hour traffic and make sure I was at my employers house by 9 for this appointment I had made with him last week.) I gave him some time thinking maybe he was running a little late on his first job of the day?!? So 9:30 rolls around and I decide to call him to see what's up. He totally forgot he had an appointment with me and blamed it on sick calls from a few of his employees, which I think is bogus. He said he was scrambling to catch up, but he didn't even seem to care or be very sorry for having blown off our appointment. Then Mike asked me again what I needed in the way of chimney service, like he didn't recall our initial conversation. He then proceeded to tell me that he couldn't help me with what I was looking for. Uhm, Mike, that would have been nice to know last week when I talked to you the first time! I could have found someone else to come out today! He referred another company to me which went by two different names, however when I looked them up online they were two separate companies. On one company's website, it said they did not do what I was needing and the other company had horrible reviews on yelp! Needless to say I am starting my search over again and I am glad that it didn't work out with Mike. Better to find out now before I spend a whole lot of my employers money on someone shady! read more

I asked three companies to look at my chimney,. I ended up selecting Superior because they seemed the most experienced and best informed of the lot and were the cheapest by about 33%. Mike, the long-time owner of Superior, came to the house for the free assessment. Superior was the first of the three that I met, and I'm glad it worked out that way because I learned a lot from Mike and was better able to assess the other two because of that knowledge. Up on the roof Mike could see that my chimney was in bad shape and needed to be rebuilt. And he quickly diagnosed that the problem I was having inside the house, near the base of the chimney (moisture in the brick was causing serious efflourescence) was in part due to a build up at the bottom of the flue of decades of coal dust (the house was built in 1923) and subsequent residue from later oil and gas furnaces. Mike suggested opening up the bottom (there was no access door) and cleaning the flue out--otherwise it would take much longer for the bricks in the chimney to dry. He guessed that all that built-up stuff was wet and he was right--he dug out several buckets of muck. Mike gave me a verbal estimate on the spot (rebuild, recover the two flues on the roof, open up and clean out the base) of $1900. When the bid came by email a couple of days later it was for exactly that amount (plus tax). The second company also wanted to rebuild the chimney on top, but didn't diagnose the cause of the moisture and didn't suggest cleaning out the flue. When I asked about cleaning, the guy said it was not necessary. His bid came at $2700, sans cleanout. The third guy was quite young and seemed clueless. He didn't even go up on the roof to assess the status of the chimney. I had no faith in him and didn't ask for a bid--I just got rid of him as quickly as politely possible. I gave the job to Superior and they scheduled me for the following week. They were efficient, worked around my schedule, and cleaned up well afterwards. Overall, they were very professional and did what they said they were going to do for the price quoted. While doing the work Mike discovered problems with the way my high efficiency furnace exhaust had been constructed and he fixed that too. It cost a bit extra ($100) for that because Mike had to buy supplies but I thought it was reasonable. Looking at the rant review below, it's true that Mike was not super-fast responding to email (it sometimes took a day or three). But if one can be patient with him for that, Superior gives good results at a great price. I highly recommend this family run, father and son business! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Extremely unprofessional. Poor communication. Never showed up for the first estimate because he FORGOT. Late for every other appointment. A one-day project ended up taking three weeks! To top it off, he charged me for an $85 part that he didn't give me AND THEN REFUSED TO REFUND IT. To be more precise, he said he would refund it, repeatedly, and then just never did. Also charged $120 for a cleaning that left tons of soot in my chimney. HORRIBLE! DO NOT USE! DO NOT USE! DO NOT USE! If i could give no stars I would have. This "company" is extremely unprofessional and full of false promises. I called to get a quote, the man came out, quickly assessed the chimney and gave me a vocal quote, I asked for a paper copy, he said he would email it to me. One week passed, I called again, he told me "the quote is on my desk I'll send it to you by end of day". NOTHING. Two weeks passed, I called again, was promised he'd send it out again. NOTHING. I called a third time, left a message and received no reply. I would have gladly hired them had the been responsive, but after dealing with such poor communication, it made me really question their work and the quality of their "superior" chimney service. read more

While this company was very responsive to my initial inquiry, and came out to view my chimney problem within a few days & seemed quite knowledgeable, they basically put me off and put me off three or four times never proceeding with this scheduled and rescheduled and rescheduled yet again work that needed to be done, which still needs to be done. This work was necessary before the rainy season which is now upon us and thus I am extremely disappointed and cannot recommend this company to any one! I can't say enough for Mike Ambrose and Superior Chimney! A second and third generation set of brickmasons you can trust for great quality work! I had some very strong ideas about what I wanted and a conservative budget. Mike returned my calls right away, came up with multiple options on the work to be done, even brought me examples of different decorative chimney caps to choose from. The other guys just assumed that the crappy galvanezed steel cage or mushroom cap style they alwasy used was okay. We just got a new roof and i really wanted something special for my chimney cap. Mike totally 'got it'! He has some custome cap styles and then he designed and cast a custom chimney cap that is the perfect 'crowning touch' to our adorable West Seattle cottage. Thank you Mike for giving me the King, wish I had another chimney so I could have a Queen too!
