Well, another great job by Superior, this time redoing my leather driver's seat on my 1998 Acura Integra GS-R. Just purchased the car and it's super clean but the driver's seat leather was completely worn out on the left side of the seat. They not only replaced the most of the leather BUT DID A PERFECT MATCH with the remaining leather. This place is just GREAT! Every auto I've brought in comes out looking incredible. From a new headliner on my Jeep Cherokee, complete seat reupholstering and partial leather replacements, they always succeed in excellent work. What happened??? Took my VW in to have the headliner replaced and the sagging cloth inserts on the doors replaced. I was a little hesitant when I saw how messy the shop looked (there is a difference between messy and busy) but the staff was friendly and wrote up my order quickly. I was scheduled to return in two weeks which I did and was told the work should take a week. After a week I drove by and saw that nothing had been done to my car at all and the shop was open for business. I left without saying anything. Another whole week later I stopped in again, and found to my surprise, NOTHING had been done to my car. And the shop was open for business. So I walked in and told the woman I am canceling the job and she gave me my keys back while apologizing twice. If you need a place to park your car for free for a few weeks, this is the place to do it, but something is really wrong with the management. read more

Superior Upholstery is overpriced, provided shoddy workmanship, and repeatedly failed to deliver the work when promised. I took the carpet from my small vintage aircraft in to get -- the edges re-swaged -- one floor piece replaced -- remove the pedal reinforcement and move to the new piece -- all the carpet cleaned Ron said he already had the carpet in stock, so it would be no problem to replace the one small piece of carpet. I called and checked in half-way through and Ron said things were going well and the carpet would be ready on Friday. When I went to pick up the carpet, they had cleaned the one piece of carpet, but had not replaced it. Now he said the only carpet he had in stock was two shades darker, but he could replace the piece with that carpet if it was acceptable. The other pieces were trimmed with leather. But the edges were unevenly cut. Ron said they normally roll the edges under so the edge is clean. The leather stuck out unevenly and it was roughly patched together. And the rest of the carpet hadn't been cleaned. Ron promised to redo the work and roll the edges under. He said he would steam clean the carpets. He told me to pick-up the carpet Tuesday morning. Five busted deadlines later, I went to pick-up the carpet. They had not redone the work. One piece still had not been completed. And he told me to come back in another hour. I gave him almost two. He never made an attempt to order the right replacement carpet. He only cleaned the piece. The edges on the rest of the carpets were not fixed. He now claimed that if he attempted to remove the stitching to roll it under, the carpet would have broke. He tried cleaned up the rough edges by trimming the leather with a tool. Although this helped clean the up the lines a little, the lines were still wavy. The rough cut edge of the leather was visible and it wasn't rolled under as promised. Two of the carpets were returned wet. A boot was shifted a half an inch to the side and moved back, but now the base wouldn't lie flat. When I removed the boot to put it in the right position, I found even worse work hidden under the boot. The bottom line is: I never got the replacement carpet I requested (and he never attempted to even order the material) Although he said he would fix the shoddy workmanship by rolling down the edges was never done. When the worker didn't do the work, he offered more excuses. They just re-trimmed the leather and left the rough cut edges exposed. Although most of the carpets were cleaned. Two were returned wet. One mounted piece was not cleaned. It seems that the only time they worked on the project was when I was coming to pick it up. I gave him five additional days to complete the work satisfactorily. He promised to make things better, but then only offered excuses when he didn't do what he said he would do. He set his own deadlines and consistently failed to meet them. Don't be fooled by false apologies. Take your work elsewhere. read more

I was referred to this shop by my auto body shop (The best on the Peninsula, BTW...) San Carlos Collision because they are right next door. My son burned holes in the upholstery of our new truck, a 2010 Tacoma. So Ron at Superior Upholstery was very nice, quoted a very fair price to replace the fabric that was burned ($200), and the truck looks brand new. He was able to get identical fabric overnight that was an exact match. His Mom owns the shop so it's a family outfit. Ron even drove me back home when I dropped my car off. You will know right away these honest folks know their business (in Bus. 26 years..) truly want satisfied customers and are not out just to make money. Yay! Another 5 star! read more

Ron did a wonderful job on a complex Land Rover Defender top repair and mending two tears in the upholstery at a very reasonable price. The stitching on the top corrected a manufacturing defect and pulled zipper that had caused too much air intrusion which would be impractical to pack and return to the factory. The seat repairs were made of material that is indistinguishable from the original panels with stitching that cannot be detected. It appears new in every respect. Overall very happy with the service and quality. Highly Recommended. read more

I've had body work done twice at Superior and my experience has been nothing but excellent and top-notch. It was like getting a new car! They are always courteous and cheerful and highly professional. They work with many auto insurance companies (I have 21st) so oftentimes the financing gets figured out between them and you don't have to do a thing. I'm taking off one star because on one of my two times there, they took a bit longer with my car than they'd promised. But they offered me a free detailing to be used a few weeks later, and they were still very communicative the whole time. And when I finally did get my car back, it looked better than it had in six years!! read more

Ana did install a Heater Element in the Driver Seat of our Acura MDX. I believe her prices for this work were less than half what the dealer was charging. We bought the parts from the Dealer and took it to Ana for replacement. She has also repaired a broken seat in our Jeep Grand Cherokee which is a bit hard to operate and that's why we can NOT give her 5 stars. But we she does good work with excellent prices and we recommend her if you have any upholstery work. read more

I saw the review by Ferris L. and my experience was far worse than his. The convertible top on my SL550's needed to be changed. I met with Ron in early February and we agreed on a price to change the top plus repair a couple of cracks in the vinyl on the roll bar. Ron promised my wife and I that the job would take 10-15 days to complete. We dropped off the car on Feb 11th for the repairs. Two weeks later I stopped by to see if the work was done and I noticed the car was parked on the side of the shop and there were 2 dents on the rear fenders. There had been no work done on the car yet. At first the owner disputed the damage but he later agreed we would take the car to a body shop after the work was finished and that he would pay to fix the dents. Over the next 2 months I stopped by the shop 6 times to see if the work was finished. There was NO progress whatsoever and every time Ron would promise to have the job done in the next day or so. And every time there was a new lame excuse why he could not finish the job. When finally Ron called me to tell me the job was done on March 14th, I went to pick up the car. The top was working however, Ron has tried to hide the damage to the rear of the car with spray paint which did not match the original color. As for the cracks in the vinyl, I noticed 2 messy globs of silicone glue. This looks far worse than before. We drove the car directly to Autobahn Collision where they did an excellent job of repairing the 2 dents. Fortunately, Superior Upholstery carries insurance and they paid for the body work. As for the vinyl repair, I had to go to another shop. Bottom line, AVOID this shop at all costs unless you are very patient and very forgiving. read more

My car had a seam open on the driver's seat and upon good recommendation I took the car to Superior Auto Upholstery. The owner told me the issue was the failed seam and that replacing the fabric would be a mistake. Two weeks latter the repair failed and I took the car back to Superior and the owner told me the problem was the seat fabric. It can not be one cause then after failure the other. $250 to sew the seam, five trips to Superior, and a seam that re-opened the owner refused to refund my money or supply a car while the failed seam was fixed. I sent the owner a letter requesting a refund and did not receive a response. I then went to two other automobile upholsterers and both showed my how the seam should be repaired -- Superior's work was incompetent. I then paid another $250 to have the seam properly fixed by an outstanding company in Redwood City, California. If you choose Superior you will be given a number written on a business card - no printed estimate, no printed conditions of guarantee, and difficulty communicating with the owner. Buyer beware. You can do far better with no grief. read more

Superior Auto Upholstery gets five stars for quality but four for turn-around-time. They can take a while but I guess you've got to be patient if you want top quality work. By the way. The work that Ron did was on my boat, which is not their typical clientele. He did a beautiful job but it did take some time and he has a habit of setting deadlines and not meeting them. He did give me a substantial break in price because of the slow service. In the end I got a great job at a really reasonable price so he made it right. read more

Ana and her son (James ??) are very nice. I thought they would be doing the work, but it was another guy who did. The work was very nice. The leather matched OK, but BMW Dove Grey is hard to match. The price seemed kinda high to me. I paid full price because I didn't have time to shop around and I wanted to come back on good terms. I wanted to have more done, but Ana won't budge on the next job at all. I thought since I paid so promptly, 30% in advance that I would get a deal on the next job, but I didn't. I'm shopping around some but I'm not having much luck so far. Update 6-21-12. I paid 2x more than I should have. I did the next job myself for 1/2 the price. read more

A couple of months back I had to get the leather cover for the center console for my Acura MDX. Over the years the sides had ripped and the leather was coming off. Ron replaced the leather covers for both flaps and did an impeccable job. The charge was also very reasonable compared to some other upholstery shops where I did a price check. Ana does amazing work! I brought in a torn half door to a 4X4 and she not only did a fabulous repair, but she noticed another tear that we missed and fixed it too without adjusting her initial quote. She double stitched the seam (so it will last forever) and she was very transparent about where the new seam would be on the door (impossible to align to the old stitch marks). Meticulous work and very kind person, she had the door ready faster than promised. I highly recommend this shop! *I am already adding an update because I just scrolled down and read some of the other reviews. To elaborate, I sew too. I have made many different things over a few decades including reupholstering furniture so I know what I am looking at when someone hands me something that has been repaired. I did not attempt this repair myself because it required an industrial sewing machine and I don't own one. I called around to get a quote regarding my car drivers seat, the springs appeared to be stuck so I was not able to adjust the seat's backrest. Ron gave me a quote and was very flexible with date to come in and take a look at it. I left my car there for approximately 2 hours and he was able to fix the issue and charged exactly what he said he would. While there, I was asking him about another small car issue I had and he just jumped right in to fix it at no cost! A very nice and honest guy, hard to find these days. My dog cut his foot on the move out here to CA and got blood all over the suede passenger seat insert on my new 2012 Ford Flex. After taking it to a couple of detail shops and having it steam cleaned the blood spots were still there. It was recommended to me to just have the suede replaced since blood is impossible to get of light grey suede. I found Superior Auto Upholstery and Ron was very helpful. He was able to match and get the exact color suede. Once the fabric came in they were able to get my car in quickly and back to me that same day. The price was reasonable and the work was well done. After 14 years the leather on my BMW driver's seat was cracked and torn. This shop was recommended to me by Wanda at San Carlos German Motor Works. Ana Monterrosa and her crew did a magnificent job, making my baby's interior look like new. She took her time finding the perfect match for my light grey leather, rather than just using a catalog number. Her eye was perfect, and her prices were much lower than the closest estimate I found elsewhere. Replacement headliner pieces and sun-dried back seat panels were perfect as well. I was intrigued by the yelp review, so decided to get estimates for re-upholstering the driver seat in my Jaguar XKR convertible. Got estimates from two of the best places on the peninsula, and then went to Superior. The bid was half of the cost of the other places, and the workmanship at Superior was outstanding. The seat looks exactly the same as the fine Connolly leather that was used in my Jaguar originally. I could not have been happier. Fine attention to detail, and friendly, home-spun craftsmanship that makes you happy you can still find such professionalism. I have actually visited the Jaguar factory in Coventry, England, and talked to the folks who made my original interior (in 2000). Superior reminds me of these Jaguar artisans, with their attention to detail and pride in workmanship. I have to disagree with the previous reviewer that this isn't for hard-charging silicon valley types, because I would not have intrusted my Jaguar to anyone who could not deliver quality. They were on time, and exceeded my expectations, without costing twice as much. I can recommend them most enthusiastically. read more
