Plus, I was going on vacation the following day. I noticed that the ride was different. The sound was different and I expressed concern to Andrew that I felt wrong tires were put on my truck. He did confirm that after researching it was a human error in ordering the replacement tires. Through many text messages and communications, he insisted that I bring the truck back to make it right. I didn't want the business to take a loss and I was content in living with the tires, but he continued to press the fact that he wanted to make it right. And, yesterday, August 3 he did make it right. He picked up my truck from my place of work and returned it shortly thereafter with a set of brand new replacement tires. The emailed estimate I received included many additional items besides the bad coil. All were absurdly over priced based on internet search of costs (e.g. spark plug cost was far more than the most expensive plug I could find). I paid the diagnosis fee and waited for my regular mechanic who replaced the bad coil for about half what Tire Pros wanted. All the other items they identified were things that needed to be done but none were urgent and all were WAY over priced. I can't provide specific dollar costs because when I went back to the email estimate the next day, the prices were gone. After 35 years in Dixon I have been to a lot of local mechanics. I would go to Vacaville before using these guys again.

We have used Dave for multiple vehicles with different issues. I brought in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata that had a ton of issues. He told me that he could fix it, but it would not be cost-effective for me when the repairs cost more than the car itself since it's an older car. He also let me know that after the repair was done, another part could fail shortly after due to the condition of the car. He was extremely honest and you could tell right away he knew what he was doing. He said he would gladly do the work if I wanted but said if I was in a position to look for a new car, I should do that. We ended up buying a new vehicle and when that vehicle needed new brakes, we brought it in. He quoted me a price and when I came to pick up the car, my invoice was significantly less than what he had originally quoted. I can honestly say I've never had somebody charge less than the quote. He said it took less labor than what was listed and it was an easy job. I then brought a vehicle in for a leak and he told me how my husband could fix the leak at home and then I could come back and he would fix it if we couldn't do it ourselves. I really appreciated that he could have immediately charged me to do the fix rather than told me that but instead he tried to help us out. We ended up not being able to fix it ourselves and went back to him. His quote was very fair, and for the exact same repair the dealership had quoted me FIVE times the amount that Dave did it for. I can't stress enough to go here for anything minor or major. In this world honesty and fairness seem to be hard to find, but not at Independent. Also, he is the only person in the shop, so if he doesn't answer leave a message or stop by!

An annoying rattle popped up recently on my '63 convertible. Part of it was a small exhaust leak…read morethat had resulted from my removal of the front exhaust pipe, but when it was finally installed correctly with new gaskets, the rattle remained. Affordable at first thought it was still an exhaust leak, but their attempt to fix it that way wasn't the cure. The second try was the charm as they found a bolt near the rear transmission mount that was too close to the tranny. It's all good now and I'm no longer embarrassed to stop at an intersection and have to listen to any noises that shouldn't be there.
