I had the most amazing experience at First Choice. It was a Saturday afternoon and I thought I had bad brakes because of a loud scraping sound. I called and said I could get there a little after 3PM. When I got there I had finally figured out I had a loose undercarriage and Charlie fixed it with Zip ties in five minutes for free. She also visually checked my brakes and said they were ok. Her service was amazing and she wasn't going to charge me but I insisted on paying her. Having a functioning car with a simple fix was worth a lot to me since my daughter was having twins the next day and I need to go see her (imagine the panic of having bad brakes at a moment like that). So I first starting coming the First Choice a little over two years ago after I first moved to Dixon. Hands down they are the most trustworthy, reliable, and best auto shop I have ever visited. Recently, I brought my 2012 Hyundai (151k) in to get some new fuel injectors put it after it threw a code. I had initially gotten a quote at Firestone in Vacaville, and they quoted $1100 for the job. First choice got it done for over $400 less. Cost wise, I've found that First choice is always, at minimum, comparable to other shops, but more often then not they are less expensive (sometimes far less expensive as the example above shows) to get the same repairs done. On top of that, every time I've visited they've gone above and beyond to show me what the problems parts were, what the underlying conditions were that could've caused it, and have even gone so far as to fix other smaller issues on the house when doing major repairs (like replacing a PCV valve during that fuel injector replacement). These are the kinds of people who won't try and sell you on repairs that you don't need. I've gotten to the point where I can just bring my cars in and know that anything they recommend I get done is actually something that is needed and not some tactic to drive up revenue during a slow season. read more

On my way to South Lake Tahoe from San Francisco when my vehicle began to lose electrical power; last thing you want on a road trip. My AAA tow driver suggested First Choice, which was close by. They checked the battery and diagnosed that it was the alternator right away. They were attentive to my situation and the whole staff seemed to be involved in getting me back on the road. Thom, the owner, treated me like I was a local and we had a laugh or two while waiting for the part to arrive. Once he got to work I was on the road in under four hours. While I was there it seemed like everyone in Dixon stopped by to say hi. I just wish they were closer to me and would use them on a regular basis. As you read this keep in mind that the current mayor of Dixon owns this business. I took my car in to get the a/c belt replaced. The told me the tension pulley was frozen and needed to be replaced. on my 2004 Dodge neon, the timing belt cover needs to be removed. The guy who looked at it quoted a price of $944.00. He wanted to replace the whole cover and tension pulley at $224 a torque strut at $40 ish and an engine mount that does not exist on my vehicle. I felt like I was being taken for a ride, so I did a little research. I found that the parts were all marked up for what i could buy them for at Oreilly's. I went to a different mechanic and told him what was going on, he looked at it and quoted, "not to exceed $600." He also said, "I was getting screwed." The new mechanic is doing the work and just replacing the pulley wheel. $40 for the part.. I will never go back to this place and never vote for Thom Bogue. I think he is corrupt and this post is a testament to that. If i could give this business negative stars, I would. read more

These guys at First Choice called me before they started the job to tell me what I thought was wrong was not the issue, and that what they did need to fix was going to cost much less than I'd originally been told. Thom and his crew bailed me out when I ran into a bolt I couldn't break free. I gave up and took the car to him to have my own parts installed. Knowing installing the customer's parts leaves little for the mechanic to earn a living on, I was concerned "other issues" would arise thereby costing me signifcantly. After chatting with him for a few minutes, I felt good that he was on the "up and up". Sure enough, the price was exactly what he told me it would be... and it was more than reasonable. (His shop was recommended to me. This was my first visit.) Looks like I have a new mechanic. I'll be back when I run into car repair I can't handle myself. read more

I was driving west on I-80 and ran over a tumbleweed, which stuck under my car. I pulled off in Dixon and was fortunately near First Choice Automotive. I stopped in to ask them to hoist up my car and help me free the tumbleweed. The guys immediately obliged, checked under the car, made sure that all the debris was gone and that no damage was done. I was back on the road in minutes, and able to make my appointment in Oakland. What a lifesaver the guys were! When I tried to pay, they said, "You owe me nothing." We were on our way through Dixon when I went over the railroad tracks and snapped the axle on my boat trailer these guys came to my rescue bryan went and found the guys for welding and got us back on the road in about 30 min. We had taken our car to another place for a smog and the catalytic converter monitor wasn't registering. That tech wasn't very helpful and we were unsure how to fix the problem. We were referred to First Choice by Dixon Tire Pros and Nathan tested the vehicle again and told us that basically we just needed to drive the car for a while at a specific speed. He took the time to answer all my questions even though they were very busy. We followed his advice and the vehicle passed smog with no issues. Last Sunday evening, my car stopped on the freeway. I am a female and was all alone. I didn't have a personal mechanic so I had my car towed to my home. I didn't know anything about cars so I had a friend look at my car. He said my alternator went out and I needed a new one. I called numerous places to get a quote. First Automotive gave me the cheapest quote. I had my car towed to their shop. I was so nervous. I didn't know what to expect. When the tow truck driver and I arrived at the shop, we were greeted by a nice gentleman named Nathan. He opened the hood of my car and said it looked like a belt was broken. Nathan said he would check my car then give me a call. About an hour later, Nathan gave me a call and let me know it was not my alternator but it was a belt that had broken.The cost for the repair was far less than what I was quoted. I was so happy that the problem wasn't worse. Nathan could have installed a new alternator and charged me for that work but instead he was genuinely kind and honest. You don't find many shops like this anymore. When I went to get my vehicle, Nathan advise me of other things I should look out for with my car. I then met his dad Thom. He was a really nice guy. My foot was in a cast and Thom gave me great advice regarding caring for my foot. That meant a lot to me for his care and concern. This is the first time in my life I've ever went to a shop where I felt as if we were old friends instead of me just being a customer. I'm so ecstatic that I now can say "I have my own mechanic!".
