Showed them a specific picture of what I wanted and explained that my other stylist lightened my hair and then put a glaze over it. She then proceeds to only bleach my roots, making the top of my head orange and leaving patches all over. I went back and consulted with the manager who said it would be another $150 to do what I asked for because it's a different process, even though I think I explained pretty thoroughly what I wanted done. I had a bad experience here. I called to find out how much it was to get toner to get the brass out of my hair. They quoted me $50. I went in, the girl gave me a nasty attituded the entire time I was there. Lecturing me about doing my own hair. She said she could get the brass out but the ends would be darker. I Said fine. She made my entire hair orange and then charged me $70 after she told me it would be $50. She didn't even dry my hair. I left in 40 degree weather with wet hair. I called the owner and he had no real interest in helping me. He tried to send me to another salon he owned. No thanks. I realized later the girl was giving me an attitude because she has no clue what she was doing. I got ripped off here. stay away. read more

The last time I tried to get an appointment at Supercuts in Montclair I called at 9:05 A.M. (they open at 9 A.M.) and was told they were completely booked until the afternoon, as several people had called and made appointments be I did. To avoid the same thing happening again, I waited by the door this morning so that I could get in before anyone called and was there when the manager strolled over from the Starbucks next door at 9:06 A.M. She told me I would have to wait until the afternoon anyway until other staff arrived because she'd cut her finger and couldn't do any shampoos (I wanted The Tea Tree Experience). She was surly and unplrasante. She didn't even allow me to use the restroom because she said they use it for storage, even though the door was open and I could see that it was easily accessible. I went here around February in 2019 and it was fine, the ladies where nice. But I tried to go on the 12th of January 2020, and I called and she said yes 3:30pm. I said sweet and I WALKED to the place and got there on time. I went in and the blonde lady was so rude and had her kid with her (in my mind you don't bring your kid to work unless it is bring your kid to work day). So unprofessional. And she was like we are all booked and she said do you have a name booked and I said no one asked me for a name. And she said we can fit you and there was one other lady there in the whole place. The last couple of experiences I had at Supercuts were terrible. A stylist (who I will not name) was nice but she did not do a consult, said she knew what I needed, and proceeded with the wrong color. She colored my hair black when I usually get dark brown. She tried to talk me into highlights which would make it all blend in. I tried that and it was terrible. (Think zebra). I had her darken the tone before I left, but when I got home it was embarrassingly bad and I had an event the next day. I had to get it redone elsewhere since both services were not good and I did not want to spend another few hours while she tried to fix it. I called the following Monday for a refund and the person said they will ask the owner and call me back. They did not call me back. I tried again and they once again said the manager will call back. Over two weeks later, I finally spoke with the Manager, who offered a discount on the next service. Really? Why would I ever go back? Terrible management and response. I would not write this up but in all, it was nearly $200... Sorry but if it was $50 I would simply never come back. But at this price, they should have refunded my money. I guess they are good for haircuts but color where they charge a fortune...I am warning others not to waste their time and money. I guess because they are in Montclair, they don't care. Great for what it is. This is not a high end salon, no do they claim to be. Plenty of stylists are always working, I lucked out and got one that I like, however I'm pretty sure you can request someone specific if you like. It is very clean and everyone is very nice. Can't beat the price for the results. They do not take appointments but if you call ahead they will put your name on the list. read more

I am taking back my good review for Supercuts in Upper Montclair. it was very upsetting to hear they pushed my hairdresser out. Mark is a great hairdresser. He was excited to get an opportunity for advancement last time I got my hair done. He was then overlooked for his promotion. Very upsetting. The managers in this place always have unhappy faces and act like they are doing you a favor. Mark always has positive vibe. He acts like you are the most important person when you get your hair done. I asked him why he was rejected for his promotion. The manager of the nj area told him he was not fast enough. That is a complete lie. He does my face frame in a very short time. It's always perfect. The other hairdressers take over a half hour and never get it perfect. Another friend of mine told me he gets his hair done in 5 minutes. I recently found out he goes here too. He was also very upset when I told him. When I came in to get my haircut, Mark was working with a girl who could not do the face frame correctly. He came over and fixed it for her. He was very professional and worked with her as a team player. He did not make her feel any less qualified in the way he went about it. Those were great management skills. Ever since I have been so happy. Every time I get my hair cut I get compliments from everyone after my haircut. Even strangers at the supermarket. I came to find out that many other people I know have discovered mark. He has a big following. I have been going to this location for years. Every time I get a good hairdresser they leave. I had started with Danielle who left. David was my previous hairdresser. He also left and moved to a high end salon which I can not afford. I found out he comes to get his haircut with mark too!! So Mark wanted to stay and make this job a career. It helped local people to have a great hairdresser for an affordable price in this bad economy. Life is hard enough. I just had an unpleasant experience at the Supercuts on Valley Rd in Montclair when I went to get my hair cut on 9/13/21. The hairstylist told me that she couldn't cut around the straps on my face mask and that I would have to hold the mask in place by hand. I told her I was fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and then I asked her if she was vaccinated. She said "No". When I asked her if there was a a reason she wasn't vaccinated her reply was "Is there a reason you are?". She was rude and rushed through cutting my hair. I doubt she spent even five minutes with me, even though there was no one else in the shop waiting. I didn't leave her much of a tip, but now I wish I left her no tip at all. People who work i hair salons should be vaccinated. The Supercuts on Valley Rd in Montclair is directly across the street from a CVS that offers FREE COVID-19 vaccines. There is no excuse for someone who deals with the public to not be vaccinated. People have been infected and died during the pandemic by visiting hair salons where the stylist was unvaccinated and spreading the disease to their customers. read more

So I went here on a whim a few days ago while shopping bc I really needed my hair cut but with Christmas around the corner I really didn't wanna spend that much on just a trim so I saw this place and one of the girls was available, Megan. She was so nice! So sweet & so good! I got a blunt cut & honestly was a little worried I'd notice some unevenness days later (bc blunt cuts are actually harder bc u can't hide it in layers) but I didn't it's amazing! WORST PLACE. I don't ask for much when I get my hair cut, just a basic trim with layers. This time around, I was told that she "won't cut my hair like that" and cut it the way she thought was best. I explained I've had the same cut for years, and she said that she refused to cut it that way and if I wanted a cut, it would be a basic trim. I could not believe how rude and unprofessional my experience was, and given that my hair now resembles a wet dog, I definitely won't be coming back. read more

They RUINED my hair. I will never be going back here. They dyed my hair with black permanent hair dye (jet black) when I asked for a SEMI PERMANENT dark brown. They messed up and tried to add more brown tones, but they dried out my hair, it turned red. Service is terrible, they gossip about their customers (they spoke about me when they were doing my hair, two stylists were whispering nasty things about my hair). Just rude. And expensive! Don't let that one dollar sign on this yelp page confuse you. I have long hair, but to wash, color, trim and blow out my hair costed me $200. I tried to be a loyal customer but for the 3rd time in the last few years I got TERRIBLE customer service!!!! Several times I have had to wait while an enormous slob of a stylist (each time it was different) took their break while I was forced to wait while they gorged themselves on crap & drinks from Starbucks; then go outside for their cancer stick break!! Two of the times (including tonight) I was completely ignored while the stylist talked to a friend (who WAS not having her hair done) and looked at pictures on her phone and then talked about how she was letting her own hair grow!!! She refused to even acknowledge I was waiting even though the other stylist (who was cutting hair) said she would be right with me! For a customer service business THEY SUCK!!! Some of these reviews are so old, I felt like I needed to post my own review. The salon has been under new management for a few years now and service is excellent. I recommend calling an hour ahead to put your name on the wait list because this location is BUSY! You can also check in online or with the mobile app. All the stylists are experienced but you can request a certain stylist if you like. read more

I know it's a $15 haircut, but does it really have to be that difficult? Have been going to his location for over a year and they used to be really good. However lately something has changed. This Upper Montclair Supercuts location now has everything: Bad service and incompetence. Horrible attitudes by staff. Like McDonalds but with haircuts. There are so many competitors and other Supercuts locations with hair stylists that take pride in their work unlike this location. I agree with Eric R., Pat does a fantastic job. I've only had one cut that I wasn't thrilled about, but it wasn't a disaster either. We walked in there at 6:40 pm and were told that they were closing at 7 and couldn't take anymore haircuts. I explained that there was still 20minutes left and the cut was for my son who is 5 and takes about 10 minutes to cut his hair. They then told me that there was another person waiting but when that person said he wasn't actually getting a haircut (was waiting with someone else) the woman reluctantly said she would take my son. While my son was getting his haircut another hairdresser berated me for showing up so close to closing time and that their policy was not to take customers 1/2 before closing. He explained that there is a lengthy process to cleaning up and shutting down (aka we are lazy, hate that we actually cut hair at Supercuts and want to be out of here at 7 pm sharp). It was clear that he was being nasty after getting a lousy tip from a previous client which he loudly complained about just moments earlier. I told him that there was no clear explanation about this alleged policy on the website and he told me I needed to be more prepared. Thanks for the life lesson Mr Supercuts and I am sorry that this will be the only job as a hairstylist you'll ever get. On a side note, my son's haircut sucked and the woman barely cut anything off. Stay far away from this Supercuts.. Agree with other reviews aboit incompetence and horrible attitudes. They have major chips on their shoulders and take it out on customers. read more
