I used Yelp to find something at walking distance from where I live and James Salon came up along with a couple more that were farther. I'm very happy about choosing James Salon... Amanda did an amazing job, I didn't even have to explain much and she did exactly what I've always wished for. I went last week asking for a calico color, chunky colors of blonde, gold and brown. The girl was late for the appointment. Once she showed she was all upset and disheveled with bed head and everything. I feel like a standard rule would be for stylists to always have their hair done. Anyway, she starts on my hair and I mention the brown low lights were too thin to be chunky but she goes with it anyway. She left the top roots dark "to go with the brown low lights" which looked terrible. When she was done it didn't look any different than when I got there. So we rescheduled a fix appt for the next week to try to get it right. She does my hair again and puts the bleach all the way on my scalp! I have white scalp now. Yikes. The hair looks like Cruella de Vil rather than calico. And the blonde tips are a bit fried so I ask if she can take an inch and a half off and she says she will have to charge me bc "it was fine last week." I couldn't believve it. To top it off, the woman in charge cuts a guy's hair and then says "well that's two for two!" And another asks what it's about and she says it's about not getting a tip. That's so awkward and uncomfortable to hear people talking like that. Like have some class! You're not supposed to ever talk about tips in front of customers. I used to love the girl who did my hair there and I love the convenience of it being right on campus. (The only reason I gave it two stars) But I'm so uncomfortable with that place now, I will never step foot back there. I'm irritated to have to find a new salon but I'm sure it will be worth it. I just have to pull my hair back tight for the next 4 weeks and get through this. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. P.S. Forgot to mention, I tried the new shampoo and conditioner they have bc i love the products. It was $70 for the set! But I tried it for a few days and didn't see any diffference. (Probably due to my roots being gross.) So the woman in charge looked super mad at me wanting to exchange it and gave me a lesson on washing my hair. I've had oily hair my entire life and I know how to wash it. And I described to her what I do and then she told me the same thing. Super weird. Awkward. What a terrible day.

Slightly embarrassingly - I hadn't brushed my hair in a few days - school's been a bit nuts. Plus my former experience with hair salons was that they washed your hair first. Well not here! She worked on my hair, got some tangles out; with a nice scalp massage. We held a good healthy conversation level. Comfortable pauses in between; some small talk that let us get to know each other a little better. There was some aspect of sales - they talk about some hair products. I signed up for something that was 1/2 off because I was getting a hair cut - some kind of nourishing thing. It made sense at the back of my mind - Fort Colllins is known to be a dry environment - people moving here often have dry skin, the need for extra lotion; I noticed my hair was pretty dry when she said that - and that's probably why I've been feeling frustrated with my hair. 2.) I LOST MY CREDIT CARD, and didn't realize it until after she did everything. BUT...I did not in anyway feel embarrassed or like there was any negative vibe/energy/attitude coming from her. She was supportive, and eventually I was able to find a payment form, but it was so refreshing that she didn't treat me in a negative way. (Also lost my phone; but then someone emailed me to let me know they found it!!! So we're all good now). 3.) PRICING - if you look at James' Salon's website - I think there's a price difference between the off campus salons and this one. I didn't even have to show ID or anything. My hair cuts have cost from $25 (prior to 2005) to $45 (2016) back in California. I usually get a hair wash and trim a few inches. I paid a total of $45 today. (I think $25 for the cut/wash/massage and $20 as half off for the nourishing treatment that lasts for awhile). For reference, I have long black/brown hair. Kind of debating on not sending this review because if it gets too popular here, I might, in the future have a difficult time getting appointments!!! I'm half kidding :) Call them!!! OH lastly!!! Yesterday on the phone with the woman from James' Salon (sorry I don't remember a name) - Great attitude and patience.

After arriving, I went to a barber that was well rated in Old Town. I hadn't had a $28 haircut in a while, so I figured I would try them out, but they completely missed the boat. Ohana set me up with Mathew, and he was honestly fantastic! It's not often that I will write an review, but on this occasion I feel I must. I was totally disappointed and felt that nothing would compare to the treatment I received in California. I have to admit, I was was wrong... and it was half the price. I think I went to the other place because Ohana had $$$ and I was saving money. If you really don't care about a quality job and good experience, fair enough. If you have an extra $15 dollars, I promise you it's worth every penny. Thank you for changing my view Ohana~

Only reason I'm posting so late is because this it seems that hairstylist hasn't learned her lesson 4 years later... Gianna dyed my hair how she wanted not how l asked for. I had asked for a blonde money piece that did not have balayage up to the roots which she decided to do because she thought it looked better. This was way back on January 22, 2022. Worst haircut of my life too, you can check it out on her Insta. It stuck with me because I think if I was older, she wouldn't have overstepped. Anyways on one of her recent posts she mentioned that the client requested her bangs not to be dyed... Yet she dyed the outer half of them... It would've looked better how the client wanted. Or maybe the fade was just bad I don't know. Maybe she will listen to advice from her fellow hairstylists about achieving client satisfaction if she won't from her clients. Maybe you all can save future victims of a hair stylist who does what she wants instead of what they want. Am I crazy for posting this four years later? Yeah. However, this is a big deal for the person spending hundreds of dollars on something that wasn't even a time consuming service. Nowadays, I work in the medical field and can afford a mistake like that. However, it's a huge disappointment for a lot of people to have to spend hundreds of dollars on a hair service only to have their hopes crushed by someone who thinks they know better. Unless you're trying to advise a client from dying their hair a color that is completely incompatible with their natural hair color and texture, keep it to yourself. This wouldn't have mattered if it was done by Walmart, you can expect to have a haircut/money piece botched when done there. However, absolutely not when you're spending hundreds of dollars and tipping exorbitantly. Salons, please do better at teaching your employees customer satisfaction skills as well as technical skills. And for the love of God, if you're employing a inexperienced stylist, be prepared to fix whatever mistake they made at your expense, not the client's.

I highly recommend the parlor and the stylist Jamie. They're incredibly user-friendly and offered me drinks and snacks when I came in. The interior design of the restaurant is very ambient, a friend that came with me, sat and waited for me and she said that the seats were comfortable and the people were really nice. My haircut came out to $55 which is great considering my very thick hair.
