You know... I was a fan. Laundry is a tad stressful for me here in London, as a pampered princess California former washer-dryer owner. I accept this. The washer in our building is temperamental and for the love of god, I just wanted clean sheets and a fluffy tumbled-dry towel! *shakes fist*
So I looked up laundromats on Ye Olde Yelp and lo, there is one just a 7 minute walk away. I loaded up my old lady trolley with linens and off I set. it was really easy to find and while older (say... 80's, maybe?) inside, it was clean and well maintained.
The service lady there offered friendly assistance when I looked vexed at the machines (the one in our building at my money until I cursed at it, so I've not had the best luck with appliances lately) and gave me the shocking skinny: £5 for the larger machines, £3 for the smaller. Go with the larger. I fit a few fitted double sheets, about 5 bath towels, a handful of kitchen towels in there and could've likely fit a few more bits. It's a longer wash, 40 minutes, but allegedly "better".
The dryer is huge (good for drying duvets!) and runs £2 to £3 a load (30-40 minutes), depending on what you're drying (jeans and towels take longer, for example). But since you can likely fit everything in one dryer, it's reasonable.
I got out of there for £8 and the lady working there was really nice and helpful. She also changes your money for the washers, which use no-longer-in-circulation 50p coins.
Bonus: there's a very delicious bakery next door, as well as a market a couple doors down if you need to do a bit of shopping while you wait. read more
