Cidercade Houston - Many varieties of ciders

I might just have to do a national barcade tour. We were here on Sunday afternoon, so there were…read morepeople everywhere, but I still had a blast. This place serves food, drinks, and has plenty of games! You can either buy your tickets in person or online beforehand. It's $12 for entry and you can stay as long as you want and come and go with unlimited game access. From what I can tell, some days have specials. Only additional purchases are food and drinks, obviously. They have pizzas, quesadillas, salads, dessert pizzas, and pizza burritos. I tried that last thing because I had never heard of it -- think of it as like a glorified hot pocket. It was delicious! I had a salad to balance things out, and I'll surprised by how hefty it was! Since I had never had their cider before, I decided to do a flight of five. When I placed my order, I was expecting them to give me a tray of five 1 oz pours... But instead, they told me the flight will consist of five 5 oz cups.... WHOA. So I grabbed the first two and had to come back for the rest after I finished. Every single one was delicious, but I really liked the mango habanero and the one with the coconut. Now, the games... I rarely come to a barcade that has TWO Guitar Hero setups. And they had plenty of classic cabinets, air hockey, Mario Kart, shooting games... Claw machines... It was quite epic. By the way, the claw machines did cost extra, and I peeped a party room in the back that had those interactive team floor games! That would be fun to reserve for a special occasion. This place really impressed me. If you enjoy games in a bar setting, I would recommend this spot if you are in the Houston area.

I've been there with a group of adults and also with a group of kids, and just note that while it's totally fine (and very fun!) for kids, it's probably better for adults--there's no kid security check-in at the front, and the building is very big, with lots of games. We ordered a pizza from a touchscreen by a food window, and the pizza was actually pretty good, much better than I was expecting at an arcade. The downside was that, in the lunch rush, it took 30-40 minutes for that one pizza to come out, though you could tell they were individually making each item in the big pizza oven. If you want drinks, you separately order those at the front, near where you check in, which is a little odd to have two separate food/drink ordering spots. When we walked in, we paid for a wristband, which gave "free" access to all of the arcade games, except for the claw machines, which required you to buy an extra card.

They host an array of events and activities (some are free, while others are ticketed). Events and activities include live music, DJs, yoga, Zumba, and seasonal events like Winter Wonderlawn during Christmas and Lunar New Year. There are seven gardens which take up about an acre. There's signs throughout the lawn that explain the different gardens and various spaces. Sky Farm is operated by Blackwood Educational Land Institute and they focus on regenerative agriculture and cultivation of food. The Outpost can be rented for events. Yelp Houston has hosted some events at the Outpost in the past. During the summer, it gets very hot! They have quite a few covered/shaded areas and there's vendors throughout if you need water or a beverage. There's lots of seating too (both covered and uncovered). A visit to Post Houston isn't complete without making the trek up to Skylawn! The views alone are worth it!

Thumbs Up: The rooftop lawn and garden are beautiful and provide a relaxing place to enjoy the city skyline. Thumbs Up: Portions of the rooftop are dedicated to gardens that grow fresh produce, adding a unique touch to the space. Neutral: I wasn't able to determine where the harvested produce ultimately goes. I'm sure the information is available somewhere, but I don't recall seeing it during my visits. Thumbs Up: I can actually see my home from the rooftop. Thumbs Up: I've watched a few rooftop concerts from my balcony. Thumbs Up: As an added bonus, it's always entertaining to hear some of my neighbors complain about the "noise pollution" during HOA meetings. Living Downtown comes with unique advantages and occasional inconveniences. If someone can't tolerate city life, they may be happier living in the suburb provinces. Thumbs Down: Access to the rooftop is sometimes restricted during seasonal events and special art installations. I understand the need for ticketed events, but I wish general access to the public spaces could remain available whenever practical. Thumbs Down: I am able-bodied, but I couldn't help noticing that rooftop access appears difficult for visitors who use wheelchairs or have mobility impairments. The elevators are not easy to locate, and several were out of service during my many visits. Improving accessibility would make this space more welcoming for everyone.

Vibes are chill, beer selection is vast, they have some nice frozen drinks and cocktails as well. There's almost always some sort of event going on so it's a nice place to just stop by and check out if you have some time to chill. I've liked that there are random events and they can be hit or miss. Sometimes there's interesting musical guests, sometimes there are various vendors, sometimes there's a movie night. Regardless, I know I have a pretty good time and will be treated kindly by all the staff.

It's a great spot to hang out with a big group of friends. They have a pretty impressive beer selection, probably 30 to 40 beers on tap, along with cocktails, margaritas, and other drinks. There's also a Luigi's Pizzeria right next door that you can access from the outdoor seating area, and they frequently have pop-up food vendors. When we visited, there was a little taco stand set up as well. The place was absolutely packed when we went because they were hosting some sort of event with vendors and even a best-dressed fairy costume contest. I've been here for other events where they've had mechanical bulls and all sorts of different activities. It seems like there's always something fun going on. The bartenders were friendly, and while there was a bit of a line to get drinks, it wasn't too bad considering how crowded it was. My one complaint is their strange ID and wristband system. Instead of checking IDs when people walk in, staff periodically come around to groups that are already sitting down and hanging out to check IDs and hand out wristbands. I understand they transition to a 21-and-up bar later in the evening, but the system just feels a little awkward and disorganized. Overall, Axelrad is a really fun bar with a great atmosphere, plenty of seating, and a good selection of drinks. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as a sports bar since there aren't many TVs, but if you're looking for somewhere to hang out with friends, enjoy some drinks, and maybe catch an event, it's a great option. Every time I've been here, it's been a lively and enjoyable experience.
