The main room plays a mix of Spanish music, including Bachata, merengue, cumbias, and reggaeton, with an occasional hip hop track thrown in. The second room seems to stick mostly to reggaeton and hip hop. Live bands rotate every week and play on both Fridays and Saturdays. Both halls feature large bars. There is plenty of seating available if you are purchasing alcohol. If you are not drinking, you cannot sit down for free; you have to pay for a table. The staff is friendly. Drinks run between $8 and $15 for alcoholic options, and water is $4. A notable thing here is that a lot of people come specifically to dance--I saw women coming alone and positioning themselves near the dance floor. The crowd felt like it was generally mid-20s and above. The overall atmosphere with other patrons was friendly and not combative. My one gripe is that the music can be very, very loud. For parking, it's $10 in the back lot and $20 if you park in the front.

I had a Cuba Libre and it tasted bottom shelf spirit as well as the cola itself. First time going and my friends standing at bar were asked to dance several times. Reserve prior if u want a table. Mix of dj and live band who played salsa and merengue mostly. I heard the DJ play salsa, merengue and bachata before live band started. The restroom has several stalls and is kept clean. A lady sitting inside provides the hand towels to dry your hands. Tips appreciated. Valet parking only- $10 behind building and $20 in parking lot. Entrance charge definitely on a Saturday.

The second time I went someone assaulted my friend and security took care of the situation in a timely manner. The Ambience of each night is different, I'm huge fan of the emo nights but have attended the Recession pop nights as well. The drink prices are marked up but it's a club in Houston so that's a given. It's always super loud inside but the balcony is perfect for taking breaks and having conversations!

I had heard about this place for a couple of years but ended up going there with some friends on a…read moreFriday night and it was quite an interesting experience. For starters, this is located in the "other" midtown away from the trendy restaurants and bars and literally on the other side of the tracks south of Main. What I'm getting at is it's sketchy as hell. If you park on the street there, there is a pretty good chance it'll get broken into since the street lights have mysteriously been knocked out and you have a large homeless and/or druggie population wandering around. We had a large enough crowd that we decided to walk down there the couple of blocks. Getting in is also interesting since they give you the TSA treatment and get the metal detector out and ask you to empty your pockets while mean mugging you if you don't know which way the entrance is. Inside has the classic beatdown downtown warehouse decor but on the plus side, the AC works, the bathrooms are surprisingly clean (which is why I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1), and in its own way is kind of welcoming if you're not into any of the trendy places. It kind of reminds me of how Houston's alternative scene was in the 90's...not sure what the kids call this nowadays. Then there is the music. It wasn't good. The sound system is muffled and the music selection was pop rock style from like 2007-2012 mostly so even though I am older, I can still say it was lame without sounding like that old guy who hates new stuff. I actually WANTED to hear new stuff and not what I would listen to on Pandora 15 years ago, but apparently the younger and alternative crowd seemed to like it. It's kind of like Numbers Night Club for people who don't like wearing black and think of the 2000's as their 80's? I gotta say though, despite having the scary walk and dealing with frowning security and bartenders who act like they're doing you a favor for letting you in, it's a great place for people watching.

What could be a lively neighborhood spot instead feels like an exercise in exclusion--where the staff's indifference borders on performative, as though hospitality were an optional add-on rather than the foundation of the service industry. The ambiance aspires to trendy but lands somewhere closer to contrived, with an energy that feels curated for appearances rather than genuine enjoyment. Drinks are serviceable at best, though priced with the confidence of a far more polished establishment. One might overlook that if the experience itself compensated, but unfortunately, it does not. Ultimately, Pearl Bar seems less interested in cultivating a welcoming environment and more invested in projecting a selective image. It's the kind of place that might appeal if you enjoy the feeling of trying to belong--but for those who value substance over pretense, there are far better options in Houston.
