This little club in the heart of downtown Houston is awesome. The ambiance is so cool here. They play 80s music and the vibe here is infectious! Since Etro is no longer open and the new place that took over there Sonderbar Internationale is not as much customer friendly, I definitely recommend this location if you're looking for great 80s vibes! My girlfriend and I visited about 2 weekend ago and had a blast. They don't serve food here it's primarily cocktails but you'll be sure to find food trucks or a pizza spot near them! read more

We were just dancing and having fun but I guessed we bothered him that we were having too much fun. He told my guy friend not to bounce around even when he was not bothering anyone with his bounso that killed our moods so we left. -5 stars So average is 1 star Patrons are mixed. They can be our kids but dancing to the musics from our younger years. Met a crazy guy on the way out who were trying to pick a fight with my guy friend so we ignored him and walked way..Judging from the expression of the girl that he was with...she wanted to get away from him too. Cool spot! Great music selection. We got lucky enough to show up when the playlist was all prince/michael Jackson. Had a few drinks. The lines for the bar definitely get long but once you get your order down, I found the bartenders to be super quick. Very fun spot. Be ready to drop a lot more $$ than you think. I went to Cherry over a rodeo weekend with a group of friends. We had made a reservation prior to arriving. The door situation was a little disorganized, but the bouncers were nice. The space is very narrow, minimally lit. There were a lot of 80's themed decorations on the walls, including a lot of Andy Warhol esque portraits of celebrities from that era. There was also a large hanging unicorn. We got a table with bottle service, at a booth in the front. The prices were reasonable. Service was attentive. The music was fitting for the space at the beginning, but turned into pounding hip hop music after a certain hour. I had a good experience at Cherry! Great music and mixed-age crowd from 21-50ish. I wish this place was bigger and had more seating but my group enjoyed ourselves. It was the start to a long, high-octane fueled night with family and friends. So glad I got to go out and didn't have to listen to the crap music most places play. read more

BEWARE OF A $897. charge for one drink!!! Walked into this club after midnight Saturday, May 3rd (first time) and at the Bar, requested a Vodka drink.. I was charged $897. Yelled for a manager to reverse the ticket. Danced my way out of the club! Afterwards, It screwed up by bank account, which caused a FRAUD alert over this Holiday weekend. This was finally resolved by the club and my bank, but unfortunately the club mgr would not "comp" a $16. charge for my drink!!!! Per mgmt, my experience didn't justify the "comp" - really?!! Unfortunately, I have to give this one star based solely on an awful interaction we had with the DJ. Last week, I came in with a group for a 30th birthday party. The birthday girl loves Whitney Houston and we happened to be there from out of state and wanted to find a bar that would play her music. We were even wearing shirts with Whitney on it. As a common courtesy, one of the guys from our group tried to tip the DJ $20 to play ONE Whitney Houston song (like why does that even need to happen in a bar that's supposed to play 80s-00s music) and the DJ refused. He kept saying he didn't have any songs by Whitney Houston. No explanation like "we just played her" or something like that. Just kept refusing. Didn't even attempt to play something else or offer suggestion. Am I the only one who found it stupid that we were standing directly below a photo of Whitney Houston (the stairwell leads to the DJ booth) in a place that doesn't spin her music? I'm an 80's baby, so I may be slightly biased to this place. Take that out of the equation and this place still rocks. It's Houston's newest club in downtown. It's an 80's themed bar which we haven't really seen here. We were lucky enough to be invited on opening night. The line was around the block but we were on the list and skipped all that. We were escorted upstairs to a nice private area that overlooks the whole joint and shared a space with the DJ. Definitely got the VIP experience. The place is totally decked out in all things 80's. We even saw some cool outfits in the crowd. The music was non stop hits from the 80's with a little bit of early 90's mixed in. Every song got the crowd going. Very nostalgic! Customer service was amazing with no opening day hiccups in that area. The drinks we purchased were awesome. My favorite was the Raspberry Beret with a Cherry drink in close second. Of course the champagne was good and they even gave cotton candy to dissolve inside which was very tasty and different. This is a great spot for people or all ages and I can't wait to go back! read more

I had such a blast at this new 80s bar with my friends last weekend. The decor is just gorgeous! I love seeing icons like Bowie and Madonna on the walls. The music was great and had everyone dancing before 10! The upstairs VIP is quite lovely too with posh chairs and a lovely red couch for photo ops. Can't wait to go back! read more

Okay so I am a sucker for a themed bar. They are popping up all over Houston so it can be hard to stand out. Cherry is perfectly decorated to make you feel like you are back in the 80's. I was seriously geeking out over the giant unicorn disco statue hanging from the ceiling. It is located right in downtown near a bunch of other popular bars so it is a terrific location. We went soon after they opened so we didn't see it at peak time. However I'm sure it is such a fun bar late in the night. It is absolutely worth the trip downtown to experience this 80's nostalgia. read more

I used to love Cherry, and I was my favorite part of going out downtown. I would typically recommend it to people and speak very highly of the atmosphere and staff. However, my opinion of the bar and its owner has completely changed. My family rented out the top floor section to celebrate a birthday. We were having a wonderful time, dancing, drinking and enjoying the music when the owner seemingly started an argument with the men in our group and kicked us out. He was beyond rude to even the women in the group, and could never give a reason for kicking us out after we had only been there for 45min. He aggressively pushed people down the stairs. The whole vibe of the incident felt 'scammy'. Since the top floor is the only big section to rent out it seems there was another group coming in and the staff/ owner wanted to double dip and make more money. I will never go to Cherry again after this treatment. I recommend if anyone needs a section for a special event to go to a place where you will be treated accordingly to what you pay for and not be scammed. read more

I have loved Cherry and have recommended it to so many people. Unfortunately, as of last night I will NEVER go back. We reserved the upstairs for my birthday only to be greeted by a DJ who refused requests and told us to "back up" every chance he got. The wait staff was rude and refused to "walk up the stairs and serve us" although we paid $700 to be in the private area. But if that wasn't bad, the owner came up fidgety and kicked us out with no warning or reason why. It's sad when the bouncer was apologizing for the owner's behavior. Never again read more
