Don't do it. I came to Super Smog because I saw so many good reviews. My story starts when I bought an old truck for recreation and went through the process of getting it registered. Needed a smog, did some research and came to Danny. I, like many other people work an 8-5 and had coordinated to drop off the truck with Danny for the day and have it smogged while I was at work. I didn't hear anything from Danny all day, went after work and come to find out my truck doesn't have a catalytic converter. Instead of doing a visual and calling me and telling me it would fail Danny decided instead that he would stick it to me and charge me the $70 cash and enter it into the smog system as a fail. I naively asked if there would be a discount on a follow up check, he said no. Terrible service, he explained that because I have a out of state number he couldn't call. BS. What is this? The 90s? So many other places around, go somewhere else. read more

Show up with cash or a check ONLY! He pays his BMW (his racing pictures proudly displayed next to the "cash" counter) payment with the extra service charges he will take from you when you attempt to pay with your ATM or credit card. You CAN save money buy simply choosing another location, rather than this business's custom service charges. read more

This guy is a complete Jerk. Don't go to this place! I'll give a Negative 5 star if that is an option. I saw these review on yelp and thought it might be a very good choice, since it's close to my mechanic anyway. But obviously this guy has an attitude problem. I didn't mind and still gave my car to him. After 30 minutes waiting and $50 charge, the guy told me slowly that my car did not pass. And if I come back, I can get a half price discount. I still didn't mind. It is what it is; if the emission didn't pass, I'll do the best to get a pass. So after a complete fuel system cleaning, $90 synthetic oil change, a $1200 catalytic converter change, and 50 miles on the highway, I drove my car again to this place, hoping to pass it easily. After another 10 minutes waiting, the guy told me the catalytic converter is no good. ILLEGAL! OK, but how could that be? The seller, JC Whitney said it is 50-state legal, especially in California and New York. They even called me to confirm the order in a 15-minute session and sent it the next day. I paid huge amount of California Sales Tax for it, meaning only if the vendor want to get sued in their Operation Area, the converter should be just as what they said it is. I even got a 70000 miles warranty. How could it be ILLEGAL? Later my mechanic said the smog guy might just be an ass hole, since he already got the money, and couldn't get much on the 2nd check. He told me another smog check place and I got passed easily. Results: RPM %CO2 %O2 HC CO NO 15mph 1580 14.4 0.2 23 0.00 11 25mph 2576 14.5 0.0 6 0.00 2 It's obviously much lower than the Max allowed, even much lower than average. So that is the ILLEGAL catalytic converter. read more

I decided to go here this time after reading bunch of positive feedbacks from yelpers, but,, it was the worst experience ever for me :( Summary Pros: 1. almost no wait time. (sometimes you will have to wait 30min if there is any other customer who came before you. there is only one guy working here) Cons: 1. terrible customer service. 2. expensive (it is about $53 with credit card. You can find many stations that do the same job around $40 with coupon. Just google "smog check coupons" and you will save more than 20%. They also won't charge extra $ for using credit/debit card. I've paid $40.70 for smog check in past years) Here is my story. I went to this shop late august to have my rx8 smog checked. In the first check, he failed the visual check inspection due to Cold Air Intake. Okay, this is my bad and I understand. Two days after the first check, my O2 sensor broke (is it just coincidence?) and I had to take it to the dealer shop to get it fixed and clear my check engine light. After that, I also replaced cold air intake to stock airbox to get it ready for smog check. It took longer than I thought and it passed 6 wks from the first check when I re-visited this station. He initially promised to give discount on the re-test, but he refused to give discount b/c it passed 30 days from the first check. Since I didn't want to pay $110 in total just for smog check, I asked for discount. He said "Well,, I can't give you discount b/c I live on this. you can always go to another shop if you want". WTH? I left the station and will try to visit another shop in next few days. extra $10 is nothing compared to how much I spent for the smog check this year (total expense: $900 = $100 smog check + $400 to fix O2 sensor + $400 to replace CAI to stock airbox), but I couldn't stand with such a terrible service, and that is why I'm looking to go another station for the second test. read more

I went into this place based on the price primarily, and the reviews I had read. Bottom line is the guy failed my 4Runner because I had the catalytic converter replaced, and it wasn't apparently the "right" model for my vehicle, even though I had it replaced six years ago and the vehicle passed THREE prior smog inspections all at different locations! I decided to take my vehicle to the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Referee Station (located at Golden West College) to contest the smog inspection failure, and they passed it because the catalytic converter had been replaced prior to 2009 (apparently when a law changed in California). I think the guy at Super Smog should have been aware of the law change; however he just charged me and told me to go get a new catalytic converter and come back for a re-test at another charge! By going to the BAR Referee Station, I just saved myself about $2,000 for a new converter and another $40 - $45 for the re-test! I will never go back to this place! read more

I told the man behind the counter that I had just picked up my car after the Ford Dealership had worked on my automobile. He failed to tell me that sometimes the car needs to be driven in order to reset the systems before it can be checked for emissions. Instead he proceeded and charged me full price when it didn't pass due to the systems being "not ready". He could have checked to see if the systems were up before he ran the check and he wanted me to come back after driving the car and pay again. When it came time to pay, he insisted I pay cash or check only and refused to take my debit card. But the moment I wrote out the check and handed it to him. he told me he changed his mind and wouldn't take my check. He now wanted me to pay by ATM. Can't help wondering if he was just bored and entertaining himself. In any case, I put some mileage on the car and took it to another Smog Check that uses the same parking lot. They were friendly and very helpful. Wish I had used the other Smog center to begin with. read more

Here is an update to my first review of Super Smog. I have been back for both of my vehicles in 2016 and 2017. That is 4 trips. Each visit was less than 15 minutes and the price sheets has always been visible. I like consistency and Super Smog does not disappoint. read more

I usually don't write reviews but for this one I feel I should. I have an old car that I want to sell but needed a smog check first. The car was at my parents and I had come down from LA just to take care of the smog check. My parents are helping me sell the car. The car had not been used for a while so needed to get jump started. I searched Yelp and after I got the car running again I called Super Smog and asked about the smog check because I had read one of the reviewers say if you have a new battery the car won't pass. The owner advised to drive the car for 20-25 miles before coming in but he couldn't guarantee it would pass. It was almost closing time for him but he said he would wait half hour for me. I tried to put the 20 miles as quickly as possible and drove there. I was late 15 minutes so that means he waited 45 minutes. He was closing the gate when I got there but reopened it, did the smog check all with a smile on his face and fortunately my car passed! I really appreciated his honesty and great customer service! After checking the smog check stations on yelp, I decided to go to Super Smog since it got such good review. It's true! Danny is very nice and helpful. Even there was a friend chatting with him when I pulled in this afternoon, he finished the conversation and immediately came to help me. He set up the devices and jump on the car right away. It was within 10 minutes and I am really glad I choose this place instead of another one which I got coupon for (that one has a bed review of long waiting and bad attitude so I didn't go there). I know this is not the cheapest place you could get, but with the speed and service, $50 is worth it. This was my first time to do smog check, I think I will come back for future smog checks! Needed to go to a STAR smog center and started the search via the DMV site (www.smogcheck.ca.gov) in the zip code near where I work (Irvine). Called a couple of places the morning (8/21/2013) I planned to get the test. One was $10 cheaper with coupon, but was "first come, first served" and had a 30 min wait when I called @ 10 am. Danny at Super Smog indicated $54 and said it would take 15-20 min. I arrived @ 11:45 and was relieved to find I was the first Customer. 15 minutes later I was driving away with a successful smog cert - thanks Danny! Yea, the time I didn't spend waiting is definately worth $10 to me. FYI they are not setup to do repairs. read more

Went in for the straight forward 2 year CA required smog check, and after a one hour wait was told I failed. I of course asked why and was told it was because of the check engine light. Apparently, you can;'t pass even if your check engine light is on. Ok, I understand, stupid CA rules. He then lied to me and said the check engine light was on because of an emissions related problem (even though it passed emissions). After I called him out on it (and of course already paid), he said to me, F*** Y**! Wow, great customer service. I will not ever go there again, and would advise everyone else to avoid!! read more

Don't go if your car has any aftermarket part, even if it is perfectly functional, especially if you look young and inexperienced. This place is not no pass no pay. They will use every reason to fail you because of your special parts and charge you more later on. They told me to talk to the government if I am not happy (lol? nice customer service and a great way to cover something up?). read more
