I must say, there are a lot of mixed things about this store. If I am going to be honest, small video game stores are either the best, or very weird feeling. But super smash games was one of those good ones. We bought an N64 from there today (box included) and the empoyees were very respectful by answering every random question I had about the console. In stores, if you need something that goes perfect with what your buying, they will always have it in stock for you to buy (most of the time its pricy) but they were respective of their price and made me feel better about declining their suggestion. They even straight up said best buy is better to get something simmilar. (I was going to buy an AV to hdmi adapter for the n64). Honestly, this store is very good and the selection of games may be a little tight for most people. Employees did say they get good consoles and games often, but sell out fast. But if you find something thats popular and you like it, I would say try to snag it. Though it was very near the holidays so maybe that can vary. Classic Nintendo games still in the box? That is what convinced to come here every time we visit Olympia. It's nostalgic, and I definitely don't buy as much as I do from their next door neighbor book store, but it's still amazing that stores like this still exist. Seeing the cost of certain games makes me remember how valuable my own home collection it. But the employees are super helpful and the prices are actually pretty good considering the majority of games one might go here to search for are pretty hard to find (at least in such good condition). I was bummed when all of the Wii games became obsolete due to Nintendo moving onto the next one so fast, but Super Smash has a great selection of Wii games. Not to mention the Nintendo, Super NES, Gameboy, and Sega Games... it's a class gamer nerd's dream. read more

Thought it was a pretty cool shop at first but it's prices are a lot higher than all the other game stores and their variety is lacking. Has a little potential but doubt will last. I would definitely consider the other stores in town that are around first before going here... DO NOT expect to be able to exchange items if something ends up being defective... Waste of my time. The unique aspect of this store is that it specializes in reselling used games from older consoles. That said, eBay offers the same. If you're looking for a new title, new in box, especially as a gift for someone, skip this store. Game Stop offers lower prices on brand new games than Super Smash Games does used (20% lower direct comparison). Beyond that, Game Stop's return policy on used games is full in-store credit within 7 days of return. Super Smash Games does not allow full in-store credit on used games - they will however buy back the game at your loss. Their dogmatic return policy, which is not in keeping with their competitors, nor the spirit of our neighborhood, high prices and musty, body-odor wafting store are a reflection of their priorities. Bummer to see a neighborhood shop choose this path. read more

I seriously love this store! I stumbled upon it one day on my way to work. I don't usually like to go into game stores and I often just order things online, but I thought I would take a look inside. I was really blown away by the selection of games and systems. I'm a huge fan of older gaming stuff like N64 and Playstations, so I was really happy to see that they had a bunch of reasonably priced games. I assumed going in that the prices would be very high since but I was wrong! The staff are really nice too. I ended up buying an N64 and two games (Mario 64 and Pokemon Snap). I asked the guy working a lot of questions and he answered them patiently and gave me the info I wanted. After the purchase I went home to play my new games and noticed that the controller I was sold was really beat up and had tape on the cord. I plugged it in anyways and it didn't work. I was freaking out because I assumed I wouldn't be able to get a replacement, but I called anyways and was told to come back and trade it out for another controller! Luckily the store is pretty close to my house, so I didn't mind making a trip back! The games and systems are all really organized. The store has a huge selection crammed into a small space but it doesn't feel cluttered at all. I like how you can open the glass cases yourself so you don't have to drag a worker over every time you want to look at a game. I will definitely be buying many more games here. read more

I had a great experience at Super Smash Games in Ballard. The store is small however they still have a great variety of games and systems. They have another location in Tacoma that they say is much larger but I haven't been there. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, I can fairly say that I don't know a great deal about video games so thankfully if I have questions they'll answer them for me. read more

Was delighted at the selection of games! Bill and Ty assisted me in finding Fuzion Frenzy for XBox. I've been looking everywhere for this game and they had it in the back! Ty took the time to clean the disk for me and remove all the scratches. Bill made sure that this XBox game would be compatible with my system (XBox 360). Overall, super impressed! I shopped at this store with my family back in the summer of 2017 so this is a long over due review. At first we were enamored by the store and the retro gamer within me was overwhelmed with the excitement of potentially delving back into childhood memories. This didn't last though. Super Smash Video Games has a horrible return policy. We bought $300 worth of merchandise from them that day, a Retron-5 and a handful of games and a knockoff SNES controller. When we got home more than 50% of the games did not work in our system and the SNES controller didn't work as well. We went back to the store (the next day because they close so early) and told them that the games and controller wouldn't work in our system. The clerk there cleaned the cartridges with goo-gone and tried them on his Retron-3 system that he had behind the desk. Most of them worked so he sent us back home to try them on our system... they continued to not work. After a third visit it was obvious that the Retron-5 system they sold was was a big part of the problem and it was likely defective. Rather than taking it back and giving us a working system they then told us to go home and contact the manufacturer to have them fix it! When I buy NEW products at other electronics stores they always exchange for a working model, this store does not. The whole time the clerk treated my wife and I as if were were suspicious criminals trying to pull one over on him. All I wanted was to get a working system which never happened. Now we have a glitchy piece of hardware and a handful of games that work... sometimes. Do yourself a favor, don't shop here. If you're a hardcore retro gamer and you're an expert at maintaining, cleaning and repairing old cartridges then I would say you may find something you want here. If you're a casual gamer who wants to dip back into your past then I would say buy virtual console versions if possible and avoid the headache that is this store. We ended up spending $300 on games that remain inert on our bookshelf. read more

Walked into this place since I've passed it on my way home for 2 months now, and I was looking to buy some old N64 games as a gift. I called ahead to make sure they had Mario Kart (they did- one copy! A hot commodity!). The shop is small but very well organized and everything is well labeled with reasonable prices. Yes, you will pay more for the popular items (e.g. N64 Mario Kart), but you can also pick up a multitude of games for under $5. I am by no means a video game aficionado, so I was afraid I'd feel a little out of place in the shop ("Is my rookie status showing too much?"), but the owner was very friendly and helpful. I'm sure I will be back, as our apartment now has an N64, Wii, Xbox, and will soon have a PS4. :) Thanks, Super Smash Games! read more

And if they don't have what you're looking for, they will generally bring it up from their Tacoma location within a day or two. This wonderfully tiny shop is run by three co-owners, who all know their stuff. Yes, the prices can be a bit higher than others, but the service and stock easily makes up for it. First off always buy local, never go to Amazon or some huge big box store unless you absolutely have too! That being said I have never had to return a game to Smash Games before, went in for the first time his past weekend. The place had a wild musty smell or body order or something but selection was amazing. Bunch of new stock for current titles and tons of retro games as well! The display cases to look through were a bit annoying because prices were not listed or easy to read. I asked the guy who was working for help and he made sure I was able to access the cases. I saw an ad for this store on Craigslist and figured I would go in. Not only was their stuff way over priced but a lot of the games I was interested in did not even have a price tag on it. The guy working there said he would have to call the other store to figure out a price. To me that is super unprofessional and shows a lack of preparation by whoever set the place up. Furthermore, the guy working there was just kind of condescending and he said he was the owner. Wow. If you want to be treated like a child and have the owner pretend like your business does not matter come to Super Smash Games. If you want a place where the staff is courteous and they actually price everything in the store go somewhere else. read more

this has to be the worse retro game store i have ever been to most everything is overpriced compaired to other retro game stores in the area recently i bough a pokemon gamboy, a gamboy link cable, and a game got home and turn the game on play a bit and firrst it wont save so i look up the problem (found out about the internal battery needing to be replaced) i order the battery and take it into an electronic repair shop im familier with and they replace it no problem thinking i can finally play get to where i can save and find out that the cartridge is actually broken not just the dead battery then i try trading with 2 of my other pokemon games and the cable has a short in it and finally i notice that the screen on my gameboy that i had just bought is chiped at the edges having enough i bring my resept and merchendice back to the store (yes i know they wont do cash returns on working games and consoles) and inform the guy working about all the problems and show my recipt assuming that i could get a refund considering that it has only been 10 days and he sold me broken merchendice he then proceds to tell me that the only thing he can do is take it as a trade for $20 in store credit not even willing to give me the $80 i spend back in store credit so please save yourselves the time and migrain of trying to deal with this store and chose another for your retro gaming needs read more
