Danger Room Comics is a great comic store in downtown Olympia! Danger Room has a wide variety of comics from the big companies like Marvel and DC for instance as well as many independent and smaller companies. They have graphic novels that just don't focus on the superhero genre but a variety of others subjects as well. One could not claim that you are a good comic store if you don't cover the local area as well so they have a nice selection from Fantagraphics as well. A very nice comic book store! read more

One of the first places I visited when I arrived in Olympia was Danger Room Comics. That was May of 2016 when we were planning to move here. From that very first day I have been in love with this place. The store is organized and neat with clearly defined sections for mainstream superhero comics as well as small press and indie comics. There is a great selection of trade paperbacks and hardcovers and if you don't see what you want Frank or Casey can order it for you. Oh, and I almost forgot there is a sizeable kids section. We don't have kids but if you do they will love it here. I moved here from Chicago and I can definitely say Danger Room is better than most big city comic shops because there is a warmth and friendliness you do not get in many of those places. All of us fans of sequential art are lucky to have such a place in the area. read more

When I first got into comics, I was intimidated by the sheer overwhelmingness of it all. Before I started at Danger Room, I had been to a few different stores and grabbed what cover I thought looked cool and left. Danger Room went out of their way to meet me on my first time in the store and talk to me every single time after that. I feel no sense of gatekeeping and the recommendations from them have got me into comic book collecting. I am a huge fan of Danger Room Comics. I've been going here for 13 years. My husband and I often go together in search of new titles. I'm picky when it comes to comics, but I always find something here. There is a nice children's selection. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. If you aren't sure what you are looking for, they are really good at suggesting comics that will interest you. This was a great stop during the Super Heroic Treasure Hunt. I haven't been to a comic book store in a long time. I've been interested in collecting again and the staff in the Danger Room stoked the fire. The staff was very friendly. The staff was insightful and knew the comics that interested me. I haven't collected in such a long time that I wasn't sure what I even wanted. Comic books sure have come a long way! What can I say? I'm in here practically every day. I don't always buy things. Sometimes I just stop by to bug Casey and Frank, who are fantastic and very knowledgeable. I'm far from the most seasoned comic book fan, but I've never felt like a fool here and have always received great suggestions. I appreciate that this place really highlights the alternative options in comics. The most intimidating thing about the medium is how the superhero genre seems to dominate with its huge looming mythologies, but I've been able to find my niche in the great underrated stuff comics have to offer, thanks in no small part to this store. Best comic book store in South Sound, hands down...and better than many Seattle shops to boot...! Danger Room is an excellent independent shop. They've got Marvel, DC, etc...but this is not the main reason to go here. For a small store, they pack an incredible amount of thoughtful selections into an easy to follow system. Manga, political, small publishers, excellent kid's stuff, Juxtapoz and McSweeney's (albeit usually not the latest copies) - I like to take my kids in here & say, "Check it out! Funny that Barnes & Noble is 10x bigger & doesn't have a lot of these graphic novels. Why do you think that is?" Tons of great stuff from Drawn & Quarterly, Oni and Fantagraphics. This is where I first bought Seth and Richard Sala awhile back. This is where I first saw Castle Waiting. The zine section is good sized - a whole rack devoted to the self-published. Thank you to Danger Room for doing that - zines are big love with little $$. Finally, check out their gigantic white board with new releases, store favorites, and other tidbits of info. If you are into indy publishing or comics books, The Danger Room is a must while visiting Olympia. read more

Danger Room Comics is the best comic book store I have ever been in. Over my year living in Olympia, Frank and Casey became my strongest allies in the search for great comics. They never failed to suggest great pieces to read and make my day a little brighter. (Not to mention they somehow always remembered to what comics I was keeping up with and before me having to ask would tell me if the next installment already came out, or when it was coming in.) For a small store they have a really great selection too, they're also willing to order comics in for you whenever possible. The shop is well organized and well stocked. This is a smaller shop but we always make it a point to stop by when we come to town because they still retain a great selection of harder-to-find titles. We've also had great, genuine experiences with 4 different guys who work here (2 of them being Casey and Frank). I love how they offer introductory discounts on new titles, like 20% off Wolf and Monstress. We were also lucky enough to find a couple copies of Outcast #1. Basically, Danger Room Comics is the best place to spend your allowance, if you get one, or your paycheck, if you get one. We do a lot of birthday shopping here for all ages of friends and family. The owners have been working in comics and books for years and really know their stuff. They have held the Comic Book Festival in Olympia, so know many comic book creators (artists and writers), especially independent and alternative stars. A great selection of childrens comics. Danger Room is the perfect place to get your monthly comics if you're a local and a great place if you're in town visiting and looking to get an awesome gift for someone. I couldn't emphasize this enough. My partner's little brother was turning 13 and I went in and said 'well, he is 13 and likes dinosaurs' and Frank pointed out the perfect gift. We got a call after the mail was dropped and now I am the cool Brother-in-Law. Thanks, Frank! I continue to frequent the shop because I feel so at home there and the selection is great. This has taken me a bit to review this but i wanted to be sure i did. There are two comic book stores in my area. Danger Room is now a bit of a drive to get to since moving and the other comic store is blocks from me and yet i'd rather drive to Danger Room than go to the other one. I cannot rave about this store enough. Always kind, always courteous. The other store may swallow Danger Room but quality over quantity for sure. Plus they can sometimes order what you need. Unlike the other store i've never found a box of wet, mildewing comics they were trying to sell full price. Absolutely revolting. Makes the nerd in me's skin crawl at the thought still. Plus the service at the other store is quite lacking from my experience. No Danger Room all the way. They even gave me moving boxes once. :) be sure to ask for Frank. Really cool guy. 5* service. I shop here frequently with my husband, and I'm always really satisfied with the experience. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable, and they've been extremely helpful to me when I've been looking for a particular style or experience of gameplay. I like that they are always straight forward with me, so that I know whether they've played the game themselves and what they really thought of it. I think that they know the value of relationships and trust, and they nurture those relationships so that everybody wins. There are stores out there with larger selections, but the staff here have taken the time to know me and my tastes. I really appreciate that this is a small but extremely well curated collection of high quality merchandise, and that they often champion offbeat titles and challenging game experiences. This is, without a doubt, the single best comic shop I have ever been in. I started coming here after moving to Olympia for school, and I don't think I'll ever be able to shop anywhere else. The people working there took the time to learn my name after the first time I was in there, and they always give me great recommendations based on my personal preferences. Danger zone staff was friendly at first until i went to purchase multtiple copies of a magazine. They would only let me buy one because they wanted to let other comic fans buy the magazine as well. That was understandable. Then i went back a couple days later to buy another magazine. I found the magazine i wanted and bought the last one. The guy at the counter told me i couldnt buy the magazine because kids were selling it for more online. Then he took it and said he was going to instead sell it online for more. I drove to downton to have them not allow me to buy the magazine. Never going back there again and would never advise anyone else to shop there. read more
