What a cool find! A small hole in the wall store that is locally owned and operated. The walls are covered top to bottom with merchandise. New editions of tows, posters, vintage toys and comic books (individual and anthologies) galore. There was a turn stile with discount books and I scored a Star wars anthology for $4! There are boxes of $1 comics and I got an iron man and a cat woman book. In the back to the left is a clearance shelf where I found x men versus avengers for $20! 50% off!! Such a cool comic book shop in Tacoma. If your child is obsessed with shows like one punch man or demon slayer like mine is, this is the shop for you. The also sell the dog man kids books and so many funko pops. This is a great place to take your kids to get them some new graphic novels to support their reading goals. Trash customer service. Asked for a comic they had listed online, i am sure they forgot about. Price was 2.99 online and the employee was like these are hot books I just changed the price online. 2.99 went to 10,15,30$ each book. Insane. While over across the street while I was at a coffee shop (Ubiquitous Journey) I saw flyers for a new comic shop that opened that very day! Awesome! I convinced Steve to go over with me but he slipped away into Nearsighted Narwhal. That's ok. I wouldn't have wanted to be interrupted as I looked at all of Stargazer's Comics wonderful merchandise! They have a few arcade games here that you can play which is pretty awesome! It definitely and sincerely says, "Come here and hang out for a while!" The comic selection is very impressive which I was really excited to see! I got to take a gander at the latest developments going on with the X-Men! What really made me excited about this place besides the fact that it is a short walking distance from my house is that they have a great selection of action figures! I love the DC Direct and Marvel Universe figures and they had an abundance of those here as well as older marvel figures from the 90's as well as Star Wars figures. In the very back of the shop they look like they have some tables set up for card game nights as well. I'm told the Seattle area is one of the most geekiest places in the country which made me very excited in finding that out after the fact of moving here! Lol! Stargazer Comics is a geek's paradise. Easily the best shop in Tacoma. I moved back to the area a little over a year ago and wanted to know what I should be reading, both Geremy and Damien came out swinging with some amazing titles. I immediately set up a subscription for several books and when ever I want to add something I've just emailed them and they've made sure it was in my box. The shop has a perfect mix of pop culture ready material from video games to both new and old toys, there is literally something for everyone. My favorite thing about Stargazers is definitely just talking shop with Geremy and Damien. Both guys are steeped in knowledge and are huge fans of the industry (if a little DC biased) and if you are ever so fortunate to be at the shop when they are both there then you are in luck because its closest you'll get to being in an episode of Comic Book Men! I've been to a lot of comic shops all over the country and this one is my favorite by far. It's not the biggest place, but it certainly is the friendliest. We all know the stereotype of the "Comic Book Guy" store owner - the caustic nerd that puts off customers or ignores them entirely. Demian and Geremy are the exact opposite - always ready to greet customers (new and old) with a smile and a hello, and super knowledgeable about all things comics and toys. I set up a pull list for the first time ever (despite being a life-long comics collector) and I couldn't be more pleased about how responsive they are to managing that list and making sure I get exactly what I want. Stargazer is the greatest place to hang out, browse around, and enrich your life with the latest monthly issue, trade paperback, or back issue. Awesome shop!! I have been buying and collecting comics for over 20 years now and have been to a lot of shops. None have ever been this good. The selection is great. They are always running specials on older books and there are definitely deals to be had. Their subscription service is top notch and they go the extra mile to take care of their steady customers. Customer service is top notch and they couldn't be friendlier. Always super helpful and super knowledgeable; And that is just all the regular shop stuff. Comic stores are magical places. I've been going since I was a child, and intend to keep going til I die. I didn't have any places that just quite gave me that home-y feel around here. But this place takes the cake. Jeremy and Damien are awesome people, always really kind when I come in. They seem to have a world of knowledge for anything you could possibly be looking for, and they opened this place with only the sweat off their backs. As someone who sees the merit in that, you gotta respect that. They carry all the up to date and need to know books, have an insane graphic novel collection, their collection of action figures is huge, they have shirts, dvds, blu-rays, video games, what else could you need? They even have some classic video game consoles and video games for sale! (Classic Nintendo era) Bonus points for the Marvel vs Capcom 2 arcade machine there too! Wild man, what a game. Since I moved to this area I was excited to find a place to pick up books and other memorabilia to add to my collection. This store is awesome, and the customer service is unparalleled. I like to know what I'm getting before I go to the store so I message the store and within a short frame of time they respond and always remember me and the books I bought a week prior. They always take the time to talk to me and make suggestions which is always so helpful when I am looking for new books to read. The two owners, Maul and Daimon, two former Texas professional rodeo cowboys (really!), love the art form and go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. I've been to a bazillion comic book stores across the country, and not a few could take lessons on how to sell comic books from these guys. The mysterious owner has packed this place with more comics, games, and toys than you could fit in a Boeing 747 factory. With clever organization techniques, feng shui, and oriental magic the employees have constructed a rectangle of positive energy and pop culture ephemera. The employees are kind, well informed, and don't work on commission. In fact the employees aren't paid it all. These beautiful souls spend all of their waking hours selling comic books just so they can honor the Oracle who owns the boutique. The enormous selection of DC, Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, and indie publishers just goes to show how The Owner is pure of heart and has no flaws. The two or three middle age men who sell his comics don't just work for him they worship him. Even though The Owner has never been seen, even by his most trusted employees, they revel in his spiritual beauty. For he has transcended the human form. Delphic myths shroud all stories about The Great One True Owner. Those who have shoplifted from him have ended up losing all grip on reality, believing themselves to be mere comic book characters themselves. The rest of their lives they spend looking for an escape from the panels that they are forever trapped in. The Owner holds us all within the store and only by entering it can we truly begin to understand what true beauty is. There is no escape. This is a small business comic shop that gets it right! In my 45+ years of collecting comics, I've seen my share of shops come and go. While some of the extinct shops went under due to clueless business acumen, what always earned my loyalty as a customer was actual customer service. Since I live in south Pierce County, I don't get many chances to visit comic shops (and admittedly, my avid collecting days are long over, yet I like to occasionally see what's new in the industry by stopping by a shop), but there is one shop relatively closer that I'd patronize once a month...a shop where I rarely felt welcomed, and heaven forbid I ask a question...I was treated as if a nuisance or my wanting to spend money there was an inconvenience! I decided to stop by that shop earlier today, dated to ask if they were anticipating additional copies of Doomsday Clock #12 at a later date (anyone following this anticipated series knows it's insanely disjointed & delayed release schedule, so this shouldn't have been an unreasonable question). She was exasperated with my question and seemed bothered by it (this is par for the course in all the interactions I've had with her btw). She didn't know when or if they'd receive more copies. That was it from her. So I decided to drive further to Stargazer where they also didn't have DC #12. I kept looking around, found a great deal on a pair of DC Comics Showcase trades and went to the counter. I asked about DC #12 and was told they expected additional copies next week. Unsolicited, he asked if I'd like to have a copy set aside for me when it came in, took my name and number to text, etc. -- this is exactly what a business should do to connect a loyalty to a customer. Needless to say, I won't be giving business to that other shop any more; a few more miles north will be worth giving my business to Stargazer. They're doing it right! read more
