Captain Little - Squishable octopus plushie - Toy Stores Near Me - Olympia, Washington

This is a fantastic little boutique toy shop in the heart of downtown Olympia, and it couldn't be more charming! The owner is friendly and helpful, not at all pushy, and seems to take great pride in offering excellent customer service while letting people just enjoy the space! All the proper precautions in this precarious present time are being taken: hand sanitizer at the door, limited capacity, etc. The interior is spacious, and the shelves stocked to the brim, without feeling cramped or crowded. You yourself will feel like a kid again as you wander between the shelves, which are stocked with toys both educational and fun, modern and nostalgic, domestic and imported. Everything you can think of is here: stuffed animals and dolls, board games, musical instruments, books, electronics kits, and so much more! We picked up some stocking stuffers (because, *gasp!*, Christmas is right around the corner!), a family puzzle and some Japanese cat figures, because my wife collects them (what a weirdo! haha!).  If you're looking to purchase something with more enrichment, educational or sentimental value than more of the same old Minecraft and Roblox nonsense, this is the sort of place where you can bring your kids, to light a spark of inspiration and wonder in their imaginations! read more

This is a lovely toy shop that carries different lines than the big box stores. They're open til 7 during the holidays and downtown parking is free right now. Stop by and find something different. They also have toys for older kids and adults, complex builds, puzzles and games. They're happy to help you and can wrap as well. read more

Fun selection, nice staff. We enjoyed the shopping experience this holiday season and we found everything we needed to fulfill the Christmas lists. Thank you! read more

Such a cute and we'll organized store. Staff go above and beyond with their service. They follow covid protocols closely. Have special items other stores do not. Huge game section. Cute kids books. Something for everyone. read more

Fun toy store located in downtown Olympia! This is one of those toy stores where it is toys that are of an educational nature but there are just fun ones there too! Not really stuff like action figures for us comic geeks here but there does seem to be plenty of comic shops in the area that fits those needs as well! There were lots of great looking puzzles, games and such where if you want toys of the traditional nature this is a great place to come to! read more

What an impractical and pretentious little speck of an insignificant store. Truly. Lots of great upscale and classy stores to shop at including Drees, Childhoods End Gallery, and others. None of them bar dogs, and the few that do, clearly advertise it. "Excuse me, sir, is that a service dog?" How pretentious. Lots of other great stores to shop at in downtown Olympia. Do an about-face and leave. Not even worth an argument. read more

We came to purchase kitchen items for my LO, however instead of the clerk asking if we need assistance she chose to follow us around the store for 30 minutes without saying a word. We even made eye contact a FEW times. Thanks for saving us money! We chose to shop elsewhere for our learning needs. read more

Wow! I can't believe out of the few times I've been to this area of Olympia I had never been in Captain Little before. So cute, fun and such a hidden little gem in Olympia! Not your regular toy store this place even had books, collectibles and just all kinds of cool stuff my 30 something year old self was excited about. Not only did my son find stuff he wanted, but I'll admit I couldn't pass up some stuff for myself. Will be back without a doubt. Thank you Captain Little, for being a lotta rad! read more

Captain Little is a large toy store located in the former space of Wind Up Here. The remodel opened up the area making it much larger than before. The store is full of toys, crafts, and a nice selection of books. When you step inside the business you are greeted by a large robot with flashing eyes. There is a large selection of pretend play toys, blocks, dress up items, and games. For parents who plan on making lunch for their children during the school year there is a whole wall dedicated to reusable lunch sacks, compartmentalized lunch boxes, thermoses, cups, and utensils. My youngest child was enamored by a set of multi color wooden blocks that housed magnets. My oldest child loved the large selection of Squishable toys: spherical plush animals and spherical plush food. All of the products I saw in the store are high quality and are sure to last a long time. read more

So I've seen the old movies. You watch Home Alone and he goes into the toy store. It's not like Toys-R-Us. It's an actual toy store. I entered the store and was immediately 9 again. Pros: A toy store? YES! Old toys, new toys, nostalgic toys Customer service Cons: Price The place is usually packed They don't have their own parking, really Located on the corner, I saw the store coming before we entered. A huge window showed a view inside like peering back into my childhood. I saw old games I used to play, the $1 toys, long stick paper yo-yos and just general things I've wanted to share with my children. We didn't buy much as money disappears quickly in a toy store. There were things to play with, trains for the kids to play with, hop alongs to ride. It truly was a beautiful place. read more

I write this review with hesitation. I always want local businesses to thrive. I support local businesses whenever I can. When this toy store replaced Wind Up Here, we were a little concerned - as we loved Wind up Here and were frequent shoppers. The first time we went into Captain Little, we were taken aback by the noticeably HIGH prices. We browsed and saw a few cute things but not worth what they are charging. Don't get me wrong, I will pay a little extra for something unique, durable, made in the U.S, or a quality educational toy. BUT, a lot of the things they carry are available at chain toy stores and for a lot less. Their Calico Critters are marked up markedly higher than local chain stores. Again, I want to support local businesses but the cost of toys here are too much for this family to warrant going back. Yes, they have some unique toys but I don't know who can afford them, unless you are a parent who has only 3-4 toys in rotation. I do wish the cute little shop the best of luck. read more

I love little toys, I love old school toys, I love the atmosphere in the store! Prices can be a little high but the toys that you find here are much different than in a conventional toy store exclamation point I found just about everything in a miniature size... It was all I had to walk out of the store and not buy one of those little mini Kewpie dolls! Great customer service and a friendly smile... I may be back when I am in town again! read more

Smiski day was awesome. Worth the slog up I-5 in the rain. If you have little ones (or older ones for that matter) that need a fun gift, you should really check Captain Little out. read more

Nice selection of toys. A little bit of unique things to please all. Problem was the cashier. There was a child playing in the corner with a bucket of toys and when my 3 year old walked up and touched them the cashier told her to leave them alone. Told her that they were not hers. I was standing right there and she could have addressed her concerns to me! Won't return! read more

I wish I lived closer to Captain Little! This is a very unique store. They have a wide variety of gifts for a wide variety of ages at a wide variety of prices. I've got a 5 and 7 year old that are not always easy to shop for. They found so many things they loved in here, it was shocking! Really the best toy store we've ever been in! Great sticker collection too, I found some good ones for our water bottles! Awesome! read more

I popped in here today and was completely wowed by all the cuteness! There are adorable baby items, cool toys for all ages, and some super awesome food storage items. I'm totally addicted to kitchen/food gadgets so it was really hard to not leave with one of everything. My daughter has been asking for a diary and I wanted to find the perfect one for her. I found one here that she absolutely loved. Yes, it cost a bit more than I normally would've spent, but knowing how fitting it was for her little personality made it worth it. I also happened to find a really, really cute tin for the tooth fairy. She loved it! The female sales associate working was very friendly. She greeted me when I came in and then rang up my items when the male associate was too busy wrapping a gift for another customer to even acknowledge my presence. He looked at me. Didn't say a word. I mean, at least ask your coworker to help ya out, pal. For as much as I loved every little thing in here, it is a bit pricey. It's not the kind of place I can come to on a regular basis... For special gifts and occasions only. I will check out the events they host in the store! read more

Wow. Boutique feel due to the unique and upscale inventory but this place is huge. I came in looking for some crafty entertainment for a visit with my nieces and nephews. I stayed for like an hour just looking at everything. Had to shoo the hubby out because he wanted to buy so much 'awesome' stuff, lol. Who remembers 'Spirograph'? And 'Fashion Plates'? Well these still exist in updated versions. Classic! read more

wow. just wow. This store is AMAZING!!! It is owned by the same people that own Compass Rose. You can find ANYTHING for ANYBODY at this store. I spent 30 minutes in here and only go through about a third of it. They have such fun things - everything from sushi shaped erasers, to fancy duplo sets, to handmade puppets, to wacky science sets, to really nice cards. Love love LOVE. Its also a great place to browse to get ideas for DIY crafty stuff. read more

Simply put: best toy store ever. A wide range of toys and games, truly something for everyone. Every time we stop in it is usually to grab a few birthday presents and we always end up leaving with extra fun things for ourselves! Cute knick knacks, high quality gift items, classic toys, they have it all. The best part is that the staff are all truly wonderful...so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about products. Sometimes it is hard to find quality service in retail, but not here. They even offer free gift wrapping. A life saver many times! I recommend this shop to all my mom friends, and can't wait for our next visit in. read more

For a rainy day in Olympia I decided to check out this toy store with my fourteen month old. I wish we had found it sooner! As soon as we walked in the staff was friendly and got down on my little one's level. He ran straight for the fun cars and bins of toys, and toddled around exploring to his heart's content. We found some beautiful gifts for an upcoming baby shower. My son played with the train tables and wooden doll carriages, and they had fun children's books and art supplies. We can't wait to go back, and I've shared my exciting find with some other mommy friends! read more

I really have enjoyed this toy store. The thing I wish they would do is make sure their staff is friendly and helpful. We felt like we where bothering them when we asked questions. Also, my car was charged 5 times for $78.00 and it took forever to get my money back and then they took the money out again. So be careful with your card. Don't let them slide it a million times like I did. They said it wouldn't go throw but it did. I Do miss this store being open. read more

What an over priced dump! So they're selling things that the dollar store carries but charging triple the price! Also I just bought an awesome bouncing ride on animal on amazon for $20 that they were selling for $50!!! Wow talk about capitalizing on the people! This place is a rip off! Nothing they sell is fair priced and the staff are so rude!!! Absolutely disgusted! Get it together and stop ripping people off!!!! Ps.. how are you about to charge $20 for an "organic wood" toy??? The iconic toy store, Wind Up Here, closed its doors in March, 2014, after 20 years in business. Paul Shepherd, co-owner of Compass Rose, the eclectic gift shop at 416 Capitol Way, re-opened the toy store on the corner of 5th and Washington on August 16, 2014, in conjunction with Olympia's 85th annual Pet Parade. Under new ownership, the store is now known as Captain Little, and brings back to downtown Olympia a service-minded toy store for the discerning shopper. Welcome this business and pay them a visit. You will not be disappointed. read more

Let me start by saying that I made this account just so I could say how happy I am with this store and the employees. If you have not been to this toystore in downtown oly, let me just say you have been MISSING OUT. I have a 15 year old daughter who is a self described "spoiled brat" and a very vocal 6 year old son with autism. Needless to say, it isn't always easy to take the whole group shopping. Our trip to Captain Little last week was the BEST shopping trip we have all had together since I don't even know when...it might have been the best ever. We needed to get something for a birthday party that Aaron (my son) was invited to and thought that we would try Captain Little for the first time. We got there and it was quite busy, but that didn't stop the lovely sales girls from greeting us immediately.my daughter ended up talking to one of the sales girls about this toy called a sonny angel (little baby figures with different animal/fruit/desert hats on) and she actually bought one with her own money without even asking me to get it (GASP) Everyone who worked there was smiling and helpful but there was one girl who went above and beyond for us. We had no idea what to get Aaron's friend and she took us through the whole store and even dug in there back room to bring out things that she thought might work. We ended up choosing a bunch of art supplies and she wrapped them up for us beautifully (and for free! woo hoo!. We were going to leave then, but then Aaron noticed a display of wooden magnetic blocks (brand Tegu) and he asked the girl (whose name I learned was Elaina) to play with him. Now this is highly unusual for Aaron, he is normally extremely shy and will barely peek his head out from around my leg whenever we meet a new person. But this girl sat down right on the ground and helped him make a "spaceship" for maybe ten minutes while I walked around and got easter basket ideas, with Aaron chatting and laughing the whole time. I ended up buying a set of the blocks for him and I just couldn't be more happy with the whole visit. Go to this store! They treat you well and sell great toys, what else could you ask for? :) read more
