Their yeast donut dough is the best I've had - it's super soft, fresh and fluffy. And we all agreed that their donuts beat out VGs and Duck. The owner lady is awesome. She's super nice and very generous. It's cash only. I had the kids with me and had the doughnuts already picked out, handed her my ATM card and she handed it back "sorry cash only, you owe me". I was in shock, I wasn't a regular and she just told me to pay her next time. Regardless I went directly to the ATM and returned with the cash but the gesture is something no one in this town would ever do. The bonus was when we opened up the box of doughnuts she had added a bunch of doughnut holes and a couple extra doughnuts. Now Super Doughnut #2 is our go to doughnut shop. Due to my doughnut cravings (and my refusal to go to VG's) I was in search of another doughnut shop in Encinitas. This little hole-in-the-wall fit the bill! Located in the shopping center with TJ Maxx (which I frequent quite a bit), this little place is tucked away on the side. Locals seem to know about it. The lady who works here is extremely friendly. My BF returned home yesterday with a surprise donut box. As I tore into it, I excitedly declared, "OMG "VG's has donut holes now!" He hesitantly replied. "Uh, no. I made a Staples run and convenience prevailed. It's some random place on El Camino Real BUT they were so NICE. I grabbed one, took a bite and much to my dismay it tasted like chinese food. I'm like, "Do they sell other food there? He takes a bite. "Yeah, mine tastes like, like ginger." The donut box is sacred in our house. It typically undergoes a battle and disappearing act but on this day, it remained full. Had good reviews, so I came to check it out. I was immediately grossed out when I walked in and saw this huge tank of fish. To make it worse, the tank was so dirty and cloudy, it looked disgusting. This is my favorite donut shop I have found in north county. Went to new one in Encinitas you can decorate your own but yuck to taste. I have been going to this place for many many years since 2000 and it has not changed much. They have all the classic ones and my favorite chocolate cake which are getting hard to find.
