Food was...fine. Service was even worse. The lady at the register was extremely rude and passive-aggressive. Asked if the bathrooms had a code and she said "...yea". Had to actually ask for the code as she was about to dismiss me and move on to the next customer. She also brought out a sign that said "Bathrooms are for paying customers only." (which I was) so I don't understand her attitude about it. Later, she closed the bathrooms altogether--understandable it was getting late--but the problem was that there were people already in there and she almost blocked them from exiting by putting a LITERAL BENCH in front of the bathrooms entrance. As regulars, we've always supported Super Cuca's, but the attitude from the male staff member during our recent visit was completely uncalled for. We used one of the water cups for salsa instead of taking five of the small plastic containers--which would've amounted to the same volume or more (actually confirmed). We even explained that it was a more eco-conscious and reasonable option. Discovered Super Cuca's when I started studying at UCSB last year. Trying the place out in October of 2019, I was immediately impressed with the friendly service and the quality of their Green Breakfast Burrito ($8.29), which came with well seasoned potatoes, eggs, guacamole, broccoli, and spinach. A delicious, filling, and protein-rich breakfast (and I could only finish half.) I'm lactose intolerant, and the cashier taking my order as well as the cook were super helpful and easily accommodated me, using fresh eggs instead of ones scrambled with milk, and being sure to use oil on the griddle. Just over a year later and it's as good as I remember - the soy chorizo blends perfectly with the mushrooms, spinach, and potatoes! Kind of missed eating in the shabby interior, which reminds me of so many taquerias I used to frequent growing up in San Francisco. The carne is soooo good. The veggies were so flavorful. Perfect placement of meats, shrimp and everything else. That you get a perfect bite everything me. We were sad to be finishing our burritos. I told a friend of mine I was heading to Isla Vista and she said you have to go to Super Cucas. I got one of their signature burritos and it was STRAIGHT FIRE!! I grew up in East San Jose and lived downtown there for 30 years so I know good authentic Mexican food. I liked Freebirds like everyone else back in my UCSB days, but it doesn't compete with Super Cucas. Their food has a depth of flavor, freshness and quality you can taste. my only qualm with this place is every single time I have asked for extra cheese, whether it be in a breakfast burrito, or enchiladas, it's never included. I've brought it up multiple times but it's brushed off :/ I ordered over the phone for pickup today and the person ringing me up didn't charge me for it, I'm guessing because it wasn't written on the order ticket by the person taking the order, which also means the cooks don't see it because it isn't there on the ticket, which means it starts with the person taking the order. If it was a one-time mistake, okay fine, but it's every time, and it's the only reasonably priced Mexican restaurant within walking distance, and I don't have a vehicle, so if I want Mexican food without spending an arm and a leg or getting a Lyft or paying even more for delivery fees with Uber eat, this is the only option :( read more

First impressions were that the place was quite dirty in the dining area. In a college town, I guess the rush on a Friday night can lead to such conditions. Ordered a 'Regular Veggie Burrito' with no cheese or sour cream, and I had quite the appetite after a day of walking around UC Santa Barbara. While we waited for our food, we partook in some chips (that were fresh made) and salsa from the salsa bar. The chips were great and so was the base salsa; smoky, flavorful and just the right spiciness. When the burrito arrived, I was shocked at how BIG it was, especially considering how it was the 'Regular' and not the 'Super' size. Anyways, it was flavorful, held together in the tortilla well, and was amazing when paired with the aforementioned salsa. I'm so mad it took me over a year of being a student at UCSB to hear about this place (go ahead and judge me - I'm a grad student). What I really love about this place is how affordable their lunch items especially given how much food you get! I paid $5 for three chicken taquitos and a friend of mine paid $10 for two tacos thinking one wasn't enough, but she definitely was wrong! Super Cucas' has a variety of Mexican cuisine and I doubt you'll have trouble finding your favorite on the menu. In addition to being affordable and delicious, they also offer fresh squeezed juices for $5-8 (just as good and even better than some of the other bougie places in town).
