Super Chef Grill was just around the corner from the hotel we were staying at. It is unassuming place near the crossing of Robson and Hamilton in Vancouver. What drew us in was the wonderful aromatic smell of a grill cooking someone else's meal. Yes, there was some dated decor hence one less star but that can be updated changed eventually. This review is high because of the food and service. The container on the left in the image was Beef in Black Bean Sauce and the container on the right was the day's special Black Pepper Chicken with Beef. I say was because we finished these good size portioned meals. The chef cooked our meal to order so everything came off the grill piping hot! The meat was tender and the veggies were cooked to the crisp tender stage. The Black Bean Beef had a little kick but nothing that couldn't be eased by a drink of water. The only thing that some people may dislike is that the vegetables consist mainly of bean sprouts and cabbage with a few pieces of broccoli and onions. Also both types of meat had mushrooms in the mix. It was what we were looking for but something to keep in mind when ordering. The service was friendly and fast. Whenever we are in Vancouver in the early evening, we stop by Super Chef Grill for some amazing food, and the friendliest couple who own it! My husband has food intolerance to garlic, onion and lactose. He knows he's safe here, as they even remember his order, 'chicken teriyaki, no garlic, no onion, no heat'. I like a little heat, and like to try different items on their menu. A bonus for me is that I can get it with 'no rice' just on a bed of sprouts and other vegetables for only a small price more. And it's so nice not to have an oily aftertaste as it is grilled with water not oil! The quantity of food is very generous and the quality is superb with it being made right in front of you. We're so thrilled that we saw the recommendation on YELP so many years ago when looking for Chinese food near our chosen overnight location at Rosedale on Robson. Love this place! It's the perfect place for when I'm in a hurry and need to get some lunch quickly. The staff are very friendly and efficient. After going there for a couple of times, they even remembered my favorite dish (the curry chicken special, medium spicy)! The food itself is also very good: a lot of flavor, generous portions and you can choose how spicy you want it (medium being my favorite). You can eat the food right there or have it prepared as a takeout. There's also free ice tea! The prices are reasonable (usually around $CAD 10-11 for one of the specials), especially considering the size of each meal. The only thing I would change would be the decor since it's very DYI, but not in a modern way. Nevertheless this is a tiny complaint and by no means a reason not to go there. A yelp search for healthy and affordable food (I'm on a bit of a health kick) took me to this restaurant's yelp page. Seeing the mostly positive comments I decided to give this place a try. The guys there seemed very friendly and happy to be there. Unfortunately my first choice, Gai Lan and Beef, was sold out (yes, apparently that happens) but I received suggestions for close alternatives. I ended up ordering the Green Bean Fish and asked if they could customize with less rice and more veggies. They agreed double checked with me multiple times: was the rice enough or did I want less? Were mushrooms okay as additional veggies? I opted for no additional pepper/spices/sauce which I'm glad for: the fish had a smidgen of pepper and was a little spicy for me, but that's because my tolerance of spiciness is next to zero. Everything was done with a smile and a very positive attitude. The food came out piping hot and the guys were quick to point out the complimentary cold water and tea available. Reminded me of a home cooked meal. Bonus was it was filling at an affordable price. I really appreciated the ease of customization and the guys double checking to ensure I would be getting a dish I wanted. I never would have thought to try this place on my own, but thanks to yelp and my experience I will be going back the next time I'm in the area and hoping my first choice won't be sold out! read more

The only odd thing that happened was my dish melted through the to go box and ended up having my entire dish melting in the plastic bag . I think it's just because it was hot off the grill but made me sad b/c I had to eat my dish from a bag haha. We liked our food but it didn't knock our socks off. This place is SOOO good!!! Really good for takeout, they are really fast. They also offer free iced tea, hot tea and water if you eat in. So far I've tried the teriyaki chicken and curry chicken medium spice. Both were delicious. The chef and wife are both incredibly nice and genuinely care about you enjoying your food. Reading all the great Yelp reviews for this small teriyaki joint, and seeing all the posted photos of the meals my fellow Yelpers got, my husband and I were jazzed to try out this place. We were in the mood for a casual, less expensive dinner and this place sounded like it'd be perfect. Unfortunately, it was not. (Maybe we just went on an off night? Or it was late and they were low on ingredients? Not sure, but our meals looked nothing like the photos posted). We were there quite late on a week night, around 7:30pm. No one else was in the restaurant. Hubby ordered a teriyaki chicken dish as it was listed as a daily "special". Turned out just to be 35 cents cheaper than its usual price. The biggest disappointment was that there was barely any chicken meat at all in his meal. His meal was primarily bean sprouts on a bed of rice with a few vegetables (carrot slices) and at most a small chicken leg's worth of meat. If that. It was 85-90% bean sprouts and rice. I saw it myself and was surprised ("Where's the meat?!!"). I ordered a fresh vegetable stir fry with tofu with "no spice" (I can't tolerate spiciness). My dish had a huge portion of sprouts and rice and a decent portion of tofu and broccoli but it was fairly tasteless. I shared it with my daughter and she was not impressed, leaving her share (and I left mine as well, uneaten). I guess we should have added "minimal spice" to at least get some flavor. I'm hesitant to rate this place so lowly as the folks working here seem really nice and it apparently is a family-owned and operated business. I did enjoy the complimentary ice tea. I think we just came too late at night and perhaps they were running low on chicken and vegetables. We'd try it again, but earlier in the day and ask for more meat and/or veggies and a bit of spice. read more
