The woman helping me had dark hair, glasses, and beautiful tattoos down her arm. I ordered the sandwich and was asked whether I wanted a bagel or sliced bread. I asked about the croissant, and she told me they were out. I said that sliced bread would be fine. When I noticed I was being charged an additional $1.50 for the bread, I politely asked why there was an upcharge. Her response was, "Because we're out of croissants." I asked what the substitute was, and she looked at me and said, "Nothing." At that point, I simply said okay and accepted the bread. She then asked a young man behind her to take over, and he was very polite and finished ringing me up. A few minutes later, I could hear the woman in the back ranting to the staff, and she eventually disappeared into the back. I understand that everyone can have a bad day, and I certainly don't expect perfection. However, as a longtime business owner myself, I know how important it is to treat customers with courtesy and professionalism--even when you're having a difficult day. This interaction was completely unnecessary. I wasn't rude or demanding; I simply asked a reasonable question about a charge. I hope management takes this as an opportunity to remind staff that how you treat customers matters just as much as the product you're selling.

The ambiance makes you want to stay well after you've actually finished your drink. My friend, a certified drink connoisseur, insisted I order the peanut butter mocha. I did. It ruined me. This drink walked in, introduced itself, and immediately filed for a permanent spot in my life. I'm beyond tired of showing up during their advertised operating hours only to find that they've decided to close early. This isn't an isolated incident--it's a recurring problem, and it's incredibly frustrating. If you advertise that you're open until a certain time, then STAY OPEN UNTIL THAT TIME. Customers plan their days around your posted hours, drive to your location, and expect you to actually be operating when you say you will be. Apparently, that's too much to ask. What makes this especially irritating is the complete lack of consistency. Why should anyone bother making the trip when there's no guarantee you'll even be open? Running a business means respecting your customers' time, not expecting them to gamble on whether you've decided to close up shop early. Either honor your advertised hours or change them to reflect when you actually intend to be open. It's really not that complicated. Until Black Oak Coffee figures out how to operate on a consistent schedule, I'll be taking my business somewhere that actually values its customers' time.
