I appreciated that the matcha was hand whisked instead of just quickly mixed together, which made it feel much more intentional and thoughtfully prepared. The latte itself was not overly sweet, although I personally would have liked a slightly stronger matcha flavor. Still, it was a great drink to walk around with while exploring the local shops and community around The Barlow. Between the atmosphere, the people, and the location, it's an easy place to keep coming back to whenever I'm in Sebastopol.

Very cute vibes and it was fairly busy when we visited. The very nice older woman working the front counter seemed to be mostly on her own, so it did take awhile for her to take our order. When she finally came to us, she was so nice and apologetic. Even with the slow service at first, her kindness and warmth made up for it. After ordering our coffee, a waffle, and a breakfast burrito, we found a nice table to sit at. Unfortunately, I quickly realized most of the food here seems to be made in the microwave. This was certainly a bummer; however, the food was still ok. The waffle must have been fresh, and it was the best thing we ordered. Despite the microwave food, Coffee and Moore was still a great, adorable cafe that we enjoyed. I am sure there are nicer or more hip spots in Sebastopol, but this was a great stop for us!

Sarmentine is located in The Barlow in a premium corner location. Easy and free parking nearby. They offer phenomenal pastries and coffee beverages. I tried some of the day-old pastries as well as a selection of fresh stuff such as the pain suisse, canele, and some others. Everything was amazing- even the day-olds. I also thought the pricing here was reasonable for great pastries. I have paid much more than what I paid at Sarmentine for less scrumptious pastries. The staff who helped me out were kind, and they offered some great recommendations as to what I should order. The inside/outside dining space is a great touch, and they have a great kids' area right outside as part of The Barlow. Worth the visit!

I ordered an almond milk latte but was initially given regular milk. They remade it, though they seemed annoyed about the mistake. After spending over $40 and getting back to my car, I realized the remake was just steamed almond milk with no espresso at all. For a bakery with such a strong reputation and premium prices, I'd expect a little more attention to detail and a better customer experience.

It's a very large venue which was nice as there was plenty of open seating. Our bartender was ok, nothing special. We asked for a bowl of water and he said there were two on the patio and pointed to one that had dog hair in it. We passed. We ordered a beer and four samplers to drink. We also ordered pizza but were told that the pizza place (Acre Pizza) couldn't do a half and half pizza and no modifications could be made. You can only add items on. So we ordered two pizzas and waited the 20-25 minutes. The pizza was ok, but nothing spectacular for the cost of 33 dollars per pizza, mine was a little burnt as well. The pizza came with two flimsy plates a few napkins and exactly 1 packet of red peppers and 1 packed of grated cheese. Just a heads up the Acre Pizza is a few doors down and when comparing menus there is a $5.00 per pizza mark up.

I've been coming here since high school which is (ahem...) a really long time ago. I always order the same things: an Irish Cream flavored creamy Italian soda and a backpacker cookie. Today, Vela was behind the counter when I came in. I started giving her my drink order and she finished it for me. Now, mind you, I grew up in Sebastopol, but I don't live in town anymore. I only end up passing through periodically, but apparently this combination is a little unique. I love it though. It tastes like melted ice cream or a perfect cream soda. Highly recommend. (This is also one of the only places I've ever run across creamy Italian sodas, but it's simply an Italian soda + some half and half. They always measure out the syrup and cream, so it's not too sweet. They typically stir it too before handing it to you and generally stay available for a moment to ensure you don't want them to adjust the balance of syrup, ice and sparkling water.) The backpacker cookie has oats, raisins, coconut, chocolate chips and walnuts. Now, I can be funny about both walnuts and raisins in my cookies, but they always get the balance just right! Also, when I came in a few months ago, they were out of backpackers and my son ordered a cinnamon flat. I ended up trying it and fell in love with it too! So, now I order both and share some with my son when I get home. I've met Bronwen, the owner, as well. One time when I dropped in, she noticed that I was ordering Irish Cream and said she'd wondered whether she should keep stocking that flavor. When she heard how much I loved it, she agreed to keep it stocked. I'll admit; that influences me when I'm driving through. Not that I wouldn't ordinarily choose to stop, but now I have an additional gratitude toward them. So glad that the new owners (Bronwen and her husband have apparently been the owners since 2020) have kept this institution here!

However, the cookies are good, and the charming shop and staff make up for the high-ish prices. The flavors here are really unique. They have many classics, as well as some specialties like lavender, cinnamon, and ginger. I really enjoyed the lavender one. It was satisfying but also refreshing, all stuffed into a cookie. There isn't really anywhere to sit here, but I think it's more of a to-go place anyway. A beverage and cookie make a great snack to walk down the streets of downtown Sebastopol. This is also a great place for a gift. My grandma ended up grabbing some cookies as a gift for her neighbor, and they wrapped them up so nicely for her.

Service was low-key and nice, the team seemed like they liked each other which is always a plus. Vibe was mellow and relaxing. Definitely plan to visit and stay longer than a quick snack experience. Seems like a great place to linger with a warm drink, a book, or do some work on the computer or with a notepad. There's an upstairs area I plan to explore, too, next time.
