What was advertised and the RV that we received were far from the truth. Actually it was disgusting. Clean but totally worn out. Misguided by their photos. Never again. The amenities were good but it was impossible to contact anyone at the office by phone. All and all we were mislead and very disappointed. No thanks.

Great facility! We spent a weekend here with friends and it was paradise. The RV resort is equipped with the best amenities -- private beach, lounge chairs, and the best bathrooms ever. Seriously, I was so impressed with how clean the bathrooms were at all times. The place is clean, and management is strict with visitors, which we loved as we felt very safe. The location is unbeatable. For the time we were there, we felt at home. The whole resort was magical.

I booked online despite some of the bad reviews. Upon arrival the office staff wasn't super friendly, but hey who wants to work inside in the Keys! We had a premium breach front site and it was absolutely spectacular!! We kayaked around the island and it was beautiful! The staff would be out on the beach every morning to make certain everything was nice for the guests. What more do you need but a beach out your back door, pool and laundry mat?! We will definitely return

Ask the Community - Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina

Is it hard to book a site 60 days out for fen of January ? Or are they booked up solid?

My guess is you would probably need to book further in advance. Every year things seem to get busier for the period of the winter you're looking for.

We had a waterfront site and it may be the most beautiful spot we have had and we have been rv'ing for 20 years.

This park has to be one of the best that the Florida Keys has to offer. I have always wanted to…read morestop here while visiting our friends that live in Key West and we finally had the opportunity. Bahia Honda means "Deep Bay" and refers to the deep bays of Bahia Honda Key. It is pronounced Bah -EE-ah Own da. It is 30 feet deep which makes it the deepest natural harbors in the Keys. It was established in 1961and is known for its history as part of Henry Flagler's "Overseas Railroad" and is now known as the Overseas Highway. In 1935 there was a huge hurricane that destroyed the railroad. What makes this park so unique is that it is encompasses an offshore island and it sits between Ohio Key and Spanish Harbor Key close to the west end of the Seven Mile Bridge. The park has 524 acres of lush beauty. It is open everyday of the year from 8am - sundown and the fee is $8 per vehicle. Clean restrooms and outdoor showers available. There is so many things to do such as snorkeling, swimming in the gin clear crystal waters, hiking out to the Old Bahia Bridge, birding, camping, boat rentals, a concession stand, rent a cabin, kayak, fishing or visit the nature center. We found parking easily and made our way out on the trail to the Old Bridge. The views from up here are panoramic. After viewing the bridge and the views, we really could not resist taking a dip at one of the beaches. The water was still warm enough to swim in November and it felt fantastic. What I love most about the state park beaches along the Keys are all the marine life you can view while swimming or just walking on the beach. No place like it! If I could give this park 10 stars I would, it is that incredible. Cannot wait to come back again.

A sweet spot to stop and enjoy a dip in the cool, clear waters…read more As it's a state park, there is a small fee associated with entrance to utilize the beach, sandbars, walking paths, facilities and snack bar/gift shop. Plenty of parking. Beaches are beautiful and the water refreshingly cold. Marine life can also be seen, but please avoid touching or catching the sea creatures; and parents, tell your kids/teens to respect the wildlife.

After reading the reviews written 10 years ago, I wanted to share our experiences, with a caveat:…read moreIt is my opinion that camps are not meant to provide exquisite culinary ary masterpieces or enchanting decor with complimentary room service. It's a camp. I've taught since 1996 - all ages and a variety of subjects, but mostly math and science. My degree is secondary science education, but I am Orton-Gillingham trained and worked my first six years as a teacher in an ADD/Dyslexia research Institute. If your child is picky eater, balks at being told to pick up after themselves or has problems with impulse control in a crowd because they need attention- they would be better of skipping camps and going places with you. A class structure is challenging enough for these students - adding daily life activities (meals showering, preparing to sleep) in a group setting with a chaperone who is in a new setting and stretched thin - tha's going to be a whole new level of tough for them. All that said - my Honors Marine Biology class had a blast. Any camp has to flex due to weather - and a camp with students in the open ocean really has to be both responsive to students and responsible to keep them alive in an environment which is not entirely predictable. Years ago my husband's sister drowned. As a teen in the it's I witnessed a child drowning in a pool surrounded by distracted adults - it is truly easy to lose a kid in a pool - let alone e open water. So, if you are expecting you students to have open swim time in the water with any responsible camp- you are being neither fair nor realistic. I was impressed with their water safety standards: thorough, clear & concise without being obnoxious for a group of mostly competitive swimmers. There were always vigilant lifeguards when kids were in the water, and vetted captains on the boats as well. We were not able to snorkel at the coral heads because of high winds. We did nearshore ecosystem boat trips and saw some cool critters - the kids enjoyed their time on the water. Food was ample and fair to very good covering regular, vegan and gluten/dairy free. No complaints or hungry kids. There was no laundry- but I would never expect that in the *Keys*. Water has to be piped in, and unlike the rest of the country's island chains, the Keys infrastructure is pretty subpar for anything more than single family dwellings. Pre-arrival communication with both the director and our on-site teacher was cleat and thorough. Classes were well organized, supplied and our teacher (Otto) was exceptionally good at engaging my class and upping the game when they knew the answers to much of the materials (remember- this is an honor high school Marine Biology that has covered their entire textbook and extensions thoroughly.) He did a super job of building on their foundation and connecting it to their hands on labs. Kids also enjoyed their free time activities- but would've like a larger space for fishing, and a backup fence to catch stray volleyballs so that they didn't float into canals. All in all, it far surpassed my hopes. This was my first time taking a class, and given their experiences I will have *no* trouble recruiting a new group of students next time. And I will be delighted to take them.

No where to get food unless you go next door to the beautiful Koa campground or at Mangrove Mammas about 1/2 a mile away. Thank goodness we brought our bikes. There is no laundry facilities and the lagoon area you can't swim in. Makes no sense why they have kayaks and floating cabanas if you can't swim in the lagoon. The bathrooms were nice. The pool was relaxing but the walls were dirty in the pool. The staff were friendly and helpful. We won't be back with our 45' Rv. Very tight spots.

The sites are narrow, and the space between sites is minimal. If this park is ever full, there will be many who will not be able to have their awnings out and possibly even their slide out opened. Most sites are very difficult to pull into or back down because of how unforgiving and tight the park was designed . Lack of staff means the floating picnic canopies are deflating and green. Their pool is/was completely unusable and green. Their bathroom floors were thick with dirt. They had multiple turnovers in management and staffing. Come prepared for these inconveniences and you will enjoy being so close to Key West. It's also a telling sign is that they constantly encourage you to go next-door to the KOA for laundry, the pool, the pub, and the beach. KOA is clearly a good neighbor.
