Tranquil spot located deep in the Sugarloaf key, beyond the mansions dotted along the drive. Their is NO CELL SERVICE here so put the phone away and enjoy the view. Great spot to relax and fish as well.

Go figure... this was once the home of some illegal drug operation that our government took care of and then just blacked out the windows and conducted some sort of government operation (perhaps DEA or ATF)... quit the valuable piece of property too (point lot overlooking the ocean with access to Lower Sugarloaf Sound through the channel that passes under Old State Road A4).... It was kinda creepy to see dark tinted vans and trucks here now and then; along with the blacked out windows... and then one day I rode my bike by as I often did and the building was demolished and the site was just left with rubble, loose drainage rock, lots of weeds and a few coconut palms. Not long after that we heard rumor of the county taking over and they want to develop a park but have limited funds so volunteers were expected to provide labor... granted, I don't know if the rumors were accurate but not soon later I arrive on my bike once again to find the rubble and weeds gone, fresh drainage rock covered the site, the boat ramp was cleaned up, a small gazebo was constructed and the gates were open. We returned often to fish along the rock jetty wall (nice snapper were often caught here)... eventually a picnic table was placed under the gazebo and a informational board was erected to identify various birds, animals, fish and vegetation. Unfortunately, as much as we enjoyed the place we started to realize very little was being done to maintain the park and the place was infested with tons of weeds... the gates were kept locked these days; still open to guests but they didn't want vehicles driving to use the boat ramp (the boat ramp was really for kayaks (not for any trailered boats, jet skies or similar). I heard more rumor that the County expected the locals to maintain the park but again, don't know the validity of that. Great location but lack of maintenance prevents a desire to return !

If you are in search of a secluded park that happens to be ideal for inconspicuous fishing, Sammy Creek Landing is your future home-away-from-home. Snapper, barracuda and crab dominate the scene. Don't expect a prize-winning fish here. A few folks were swimming underneath the overpass, while a few folks were camped out on the park benches for most of the day. You won't be bothered by deranged locals nor exposed to ear-splitting pandemonium. SCL is a retreat for those who appreciate the great outdoors. Grab a line, a kayak or your dog, because your tucked-away sanctuary awaits.

Five stars all around! Phenomenal time out with Brett!…read more Incredible to paddle through the mangroves and felt safe the entire time. Thank you for the awesome adventure Brett. Highly recommend lazy dog and the crew.

I was really looking forward to kayaking in the mangroves, but unfortunately it was much too…read morechallenging for me. I have only ever kayaked on lakes or very gentle rivers before, and have always enjoyed it so much. But with the high winds and convoluted terrain, this was not beginner-friendly. More disappointingly, when I asked my guide, Heather, for advice about how to stop my boat from drifting, she retorted: "Oh, so you weren't paying attention when I explained that earlier!?" I WAS paying attention, but I needed further explanation. Why should I be shamed for not understanding everything immediately? Why shouldn't I ask a clarifying question on a beginner tour? The guide seemed totally disinterested in watching how people were doing, going so fast ahead, even when other people were far back behind her. The company really needed to have a second guide in the back, or to have us divided into more/less experienced groups. I would have much rather been in a gentler group and gone a shorter distance but felt safe than to be belittled and struggling to maneuver my way. It was just such a negative vibe for something that should have been uplifting and fun. In positive news, it is really beautiful, and (as a scientist myself), I found the information about the ecology fascinating. I just would recommend a different tour to anyone who isn't very confident in their skills.

THIS IS WHAT KEYS LIVING IS ALL ABOUT…read more I've decided to post a couple outer sandbar Keys frequented by the locals, as it seems to be a recurring question that pops up by visitors. MARVIN KEY Longitude: -81.6445331 Latitude: 24.7115303 If you're wondering where all the locals disappear to on weekends, chances are if they know someone with a motor boat, they are at Marvin Key. This is a popular locals island and sandbar in the outback area off the lower Florida Keys. The only way to get here is by boat. Having had the opportunity to go here a few times already, it is absolute paradise. The sandbars are quite large around the island for walking, kayaking or just wading in the water with your beach chair and a beverage. You can also stroll along the shore with picture opportunities at every turn. Make sure you pack plenty of water, sunscreen, your noodles and even an umbrella if you plan on spending the day. It is not uncommon for waders to visit from boat to boat, so you just may meet some new friends along the way. The age range for visitors at Marvin Key is around 35 and up. The 35 and younger single crowd tend to migrate to Snipes Key which is in the general vicinity. Just like many of the other outback islands and sandbars around the Keys, knowing the area and navigation is crucial to avoid running aground, getting stuck, and most importantly, preventing damage to our reefs and ecosystem. If you choose to venture to this location, be sure to bring a local guide that knows the waters.
