I have had Sunshine Home Maintenance clean my house once a month for close to 25 years now. Some of the adjectives I would use to describe Rich and his crews are trust worthy, conscientious, flexible, reliable, accommodating, friendly, professional, efficient and effective. They started when my, now young adult, children were just babies. The first time I met with Rich to get a quote, he was professional and friendly. He even played peek-a-boo with my little ones to make them feel more comfortable with a strange man in the house. That set the tone for our relationship from then on out. As for the job at hand, they have always been efficient and reliable. They show up when they say they will (even when I have changed the schedule last minute) and after greetings and checking to see if there was anything special that I needed, set straight to work. They work as a team. They each have their jobs and once that is completed, they move to the next job until the entire house is clean. When the kids would get home from school and were barely in the door they would exclaim "the cleaners were here!". Not that I keep a dirty house but it was noticeable to them that it was even cleaner. On the occasions that I had a special request the day of cleaning, such as wipe the inside of the refrigerator down with anti-mildew spray, they were accommodating. Or made a special cleaning request such as when guests were staying over to attend my daughter's wedding, they were accommodating. In all those years I have surprisingly have had only two complaints. I brought them up to Rich who promptly apologized and then made them right. One of which he personally researched and came out to make right. I would, without any reservations, recommend Sunshine Home Maintence to family, friends, and anyone else looking for house cleaning. read more

I normally do a deep clean once or twice a year, but with my girlfriend's in-laws coming over for Thanksgiving I hired Sunshine and holy crap, they found dirt in places I never knew possible. My house is spotless, my floor looks new, my blinds look new, everything looks great, so now I can at least put on the illusion that my life is together. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Rich again; this is one less thing to worry about. Now I just have to fend off questions about marriage and kids. read more

Not recommended if you want the job done correctly and in a descent time period. We hired Rich and his team at Sunshine to redo our floors and it turned into a headache of a mess. Initially Rich told us it would take 1 week to redo the floors and it turned into multiple visits, a mess left at the house, and the floor are not at a level of quality equal to the over $5000 cost. He seemed to be in a rush to get the floors done, even though we put no time restraints on him. After cleaning the floors, his team dumped the chemicals/liquid in the driveway to get it to flow to our drain, leaving a white stain in the driveway, which he has refused to clean up. Also, his team left white chemical stains on the steps leading to the front door, which is also now stained with chemicals. When I asked him about it, he told me to just hose it off and it will be clean. Well, it wasn't. When he came over next, I asked him to again clean it up, and all he did was hose it off. Again, not getting it clean. It is hard to work with Rich. He only uses his cell phone, not email or text message. He is very eager to get his money before the end results are clear. And makes sure you sign off on the work done. I wish I would have read more of the negative reviews before choosing Sunshine Home Maintenance. We spent over $5000 to have our floors redone, and we ended up with a floors that are mediocre, a stained driveway and front entryway, and Rich as no interest in making it better. read more

They always arrive when scheduled and on the times when I am unable to be there ( I trust them completely and leave a key) the work is always done to my satisfaction. It has been several months since my previous review of this company. Since then we've hired a new cleaning company. They have the same hourly rate as Sunshine, but are better cleaners and they get the job done in less time. Currently our weekly cleaning costs about 20% less than it used to. In my opinion as a consumer, not someone who knows the cleaning business, I offer these thoughts for your consideration - they pretty much apply to any contractor: 1. Be sure to get a written contract 2. Hire them on a flat rate basis - never hourly. 3. Keep notes of every conversation. (In the end Sunshine ended up reimbursing us for thousands of dollars in overcharges. It was less than the total amount in question, but we decided to accepted it.) read more

Sunshine Home Maintenance came into our Marin home to deep clean it before it was listed for sale this week on the advice of another (who just knew of them). What a mistake. The first quickie clean before a family gathering was not bad, maybe B or B-, but at $255 (2 men, 2.5 hrs) the price was high. The so called thorough cleaning that followed was anything but. The rectangular kitchen hood was typical: the front was cleaned but the sides were not. Throughout the house, cobwebs were missed and woodwork cleaning was good in some places, poor in others. For this mediocre work I had the privilege of paying an additional sky-high $1050. The worst part of this experience was dealing with the owner who was high pressure (this is not New York, get a clue). I was bombarded with sales calls to close the deal. I was never asked at the end (when I declined to have Sunshine back to finish up) what I thought of the work done to date. Needless to say, there have been no follow up Happy Calls by Sunshine. The only thing he cared about was getting a check the same day I called and asked him to send me the modified balance. He immediately drove 25 minutes to collect on the spot and obtain my signature to absolve him from all liability. Sunshine Maintence is not licensed and required a 30% deposit, three times what a licensed contractor is allowed in California. FYI, Sunshine Flooring (a separate arm of the company run by the owner's son is licensed). I did not use their services. The home stager was appalled by his behavior and work and will never refer him again. I wish I had read the few bad online reviews and instead used my own cleaning person who came in to finish the job. Using Sunshine is NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

Avoid using this company at all costs. We paid $1,000 to clean a 1,500 sf home, which was done extremely poorly. Walls, floors, and cabinets were filthy, and floors were barely touched. Visible cobwebs in several spots. Unethical and dubious response from Richard when contacted to try to resolve. We spent 3 hours cleaning up after their cleaning to get the house in decent shape. Hard to believe they've managed to stay in business for any length of time with this kind of poor quality. read more

I used them for HARDWOOD FLOOR REFINISHING and HOME MAINTENANCE. The owners son came off very professional, skilled, he said he was a perfectionist. They ruined my hardwood floors; sanded way too heavily around the baseboards, didn't clean the floor properly before applying the varnish so now I permanently have dirt in the corners. I cannot swiffer on the floor as the varnish bubbled badly in many spots and it just catches the fiber. When we pointed out these things he was flippant and arrogant and tried to blame it on us. The owner then came in and was to clean up the dust from the sanding. I went through 2 vacuum bags sucking out the shavings and sawdust from my heater registers. read more

I have used Sunshine twice -several years ago for an empty house cleaning after a floor refinishing project. David handled the project himself back then - washing walls, interior windows and removing all the associated extra dust everywhere and did a great job. I hired them again last week to help my 89 year old mother-in-law who needed a deep cleaning of 2 bathrooms after a sewage backup and to clean out a refrigerator and scrub down and disinfect a tile kitchen counter that had not been thoroughly cleaned in a long time. Rich was very gentle and explained very carefully to her what would be done and who to expect to come to her door. Before I was going to write my review I thought I would read a few of the previous ones. I was quite surprised at the couple of one star commenters. I have never had that experience in the now 38 years of using them. (Really.) On the odd occasion I had an issue, I called Rich and he apologized on behalf of the crew and took care of it. They do regular, general house cleaning. They don't go around doing special projects like walls and doors unless you ask them. As in: 'hey please give attention to the dishwasher door'. Done! I have had times using them for regular visits and also sporadic ones. I have used Sunshine for wood floors, apartment cleaning and move out cleaning, furniture cleaning, windows, rugs and carpets, doors, gutters, spider web and dusk clean up on the outside siding, high power side walk cleaning and house cleaning.
