I can only comment on a one-time donut purchase, but the dozen donuts we got were not very good. I tried 3 different flavors, and was unimpressed. The plain glazed was too cakey. The crullers tasted better, but we're not the right consistency either. The chocolate cake donut with frosting/sprinkles was lardy...there was a bitter aftertaste. I guess I must continue my hunt for good donuts in Salinas. read more

As a regular customer, the great quality never fails. If you think this is a horrible donut shop, you clearly have never been on the south side. BEST DONUTS IN TOWN!!!! The best doughnuts I've had in years, maybe ever. The outsides are crisp while the insides are doughy. They are perfect when fresh and still amazing several hours later. We tried this place the first morning of our vacation and were so blown away we had to go back the next morning to try more varieties. My girlfriend had the white caramel coffee both days and was blown away by it. Both the woman at the counter and the cook were friendly and welcoming. It was the perfect way to start and end a too short vacation. We're definitely going back anytime we are in the area! read more

I absolutely love this place. Yes, it's horrible I come often enough to know this place is fantastic but if I am in salinas this is the only donut shop I will come to. The donuts are always fresh! The customer service in itself is welcoming and makes customers want to come back for more. Sunshine donuts is more of a mom&pop shop and the couple who run the shop are doing an amazing job. The woman who works there is always so nice and asks how I am doing, and she is also very helpful when I am indecisive so early in the mornings. I do enjoy the fresh donuts, but I also appreciate the great customer service sunshine donuts has to offer. I would recommend this shop any day! read more

Dropped by here on way to Monterey aquarium. Was surprised by the hospitality of the owner with free food and also the donuts were good.

I know that 5 stars is a little too enthusiastic for a simple doughnut shop, but that's how much I love this place. It's very cozy and simple, but the family that works there is great. The doughnuts are freshly made and I make it a habit to stop by as often as I can (even though that breaks the diet). This place is a guilty pleasure ;P Doughnuts are fresh and the people are great. Old, old donuts... last time I went they gave me day-old donuts, but I didn't return them. Today, the "nice old gentleman" like everyone describes gave me day-old donuts again. I returned 2 of them (I gave the third to the dog not knowing there were more), and I told him, "you sold me old donuts" and I opened the box. He had the audacity to ask me which ones, knowing fully well he had sold me these day-old donuts. This donut shop is amazing, donuts are made fresh, and when I ordered a jelly filled donut they filled it fresh right in front of me. Great donuts. A little on the expensive side (3 donuts for $4). The selection is limited to classic but the classics are done right. Maple bars are delicious and buttermilk donuts are dense and buttery. They fill donuts on the spot if you'd like with jelly or cream and the service is friendly. read more

Taro boba drinks are my fav and they make em with the right amount of sweet .. they also give me a couple of extra donuts sometimes which are tasty af ! Sunday morning and my husband is craving a fresh donut and coffee. Well, this would not be the case this morning . Walks in and selection is extremely limited, so chooses what's available thinking at least what is available should be fresh. Gets home and no fresh donuts, not even the ever popular glaze. For nearly 25 years I frequented a donut shop in North Salinas. I was devastated when I learned of their change of ownership. I gave the new owners a chance, but it was not the same. I searched and searched and discovered Sunshine Donuts, what a relief to find a diamond in the rough ! The donuts and the croissants are the BEST I've ever had and I have been to a lot of donut shops. They have your standard regular coffee and specialty coffees however their smoothies on a HOT day are fantastic.The owners are an Asian family, very friendly and personable and their motto seems to be : "We aim to please" The place is exceptionally clean and except for a few tables, the owners always have HOT coffee and a warm smile to greet you in the morning ! .....I love this place ! read more
